Top 10 fantasy players drafted since 1994 (1 Viewer)

Only players drafted or undrafted since 1994. My thinking on it is this:

#1-- Marshall Faulk, 1994- 7 times top 10, 2 times #1

#2-- LaDainian Tomlinson, 2001- 6 straight top 10, 1 time #1

#3-- Marvin harrison, 1996- 8 straight top 10, 4 times #1

#4-- Peyton Manning, 1998- 8 straight top 5, 9 straight top 10

#5-- Tony Gonzalez, 1997- 8 straight top 10, 3 times #1, 3 times #2

#6-- Randy Moss, 1998- 6 straight top 5, 3 times #1

#7-- Curtis Martin, 1995- 7 top 10, 4 top 5

#8-- Shaun Alexander, 2000- 5 top 6, 2 times #1

#9-- Tiki Barber, 1997- 7 straight top 15

#10- Torry Holt, 1999- 6 top 10

Who would you replace? With whom?

Would it be possible for you to break the results up into averag VDB points per season? That might be interesting to look at.

Thanks. That probably provides a better idea of the top ten, IMO.

Here's how I understand the question:

If we held a draft right now in a league where there is no trading, no free agency, and no roster submission, and the league was held over a twelve year timeframe, what would the first round look like? Assume that you're paying $12 up front and the payouts are as if there were twelve, one dollar leagues (or whatever unit you'd prefer). The leagues run week by week, with a week 16 championship, and you already know who blows up in weeks 15 and 16 each year. If you take Priest Holmes, you get his awesome years, but you also get a zero from him during his down years, and get screwed the year he gets hurt.

If that's the question, I think Brett Favre is a first rounder, but he's a late first. Priest, Tomlinson, Faulk and Emmitt would all be early first rounders because you'd be a favorite to win the years they went off, and would still be solid the years they didn't. A guy like Tony Gonzalez would never win you your league, so despite his big overall VBD number, I'd pass on him. Cris Carter has almost the same VBD number as Keyshawn over the twelve year span, but Keyshawn would be a lot more valuable if there were smaller rosters, while Carter would be a lot more valuable if you had deep rosters because he had a huge VBD number for a couple early years.

If I were drafting for such a league, I would want to take a bunch of guys who were good the same years, and try to win two or three years outright, instead of trying to get a bunch of guys who were good the whole time. If I could gather the "All 94-96" team, with a backfield of Terrell Davis and Jamal Anderson, I would gladly take blanks in 97-2006 just to have the superstud backfield for the years it mattered most. A guy like Owens helps you to a championship game, but gets hurt week 16 twice. You'd probably take a scrub WR who blew up for 2 TDs that week to make up for it.

It could be a fun game to go back and try it. It definitely adds a dimension beyond Chase's idea of redrafting last year's players in a total points league.
