Top 250 Ranking - Ronnie Brown!?!? (1 Viewer)

I have an owner who wants to trade me Ronnie Brown for a WR. My initial thought was that I am not that high on Brown. So I pull up the Top 250 ranking list from yesterday and low and behold Ronnie is nearly at the top! Very nearly! I saw his playoff matchups were great (KC in week 16, our superbowl). Help me understand why he is all the sudden a complete stud in the eyes of the experts. Or perhaps you want to agree with me that Brown is solid, but not studlike for the rest of the year. Enlighten me!

Two straight games of 13 carries has to be concerning.

This past week it was a function of the defensive matchup with BAL, but the week before Williams had almost as many.

I think Williams' likely continued involvement is not getting proper consideration here.

i was wondering the same thing. I have been offered brown for forte, and was all set to turn it down, but looking at the rankings, they make me feel like i might be a fool not to take brown...I just cant pull the trigger though

Here is some addtional info....

The offer on the table from the Brown owner is:

I get: R Brown & Chad Johnson

I give up: P Burress

My team currently is:

Cutler/Schaub

M Barber/Chris Johnson/J Lewis/F Jones

S Smith/Boldin/Burress/Evans/Coles/Curtis

This is an auction ($200) keeper league. Brown is cheap at $10

Not bragging, but 7-0 this year.

Do I pull the trigger?

He had 26 of the 40 carries the last 2 weeks. That's 65%. I don't think you can expect too much more.

Yes and don't think twice about it.

Looking for a couple more opinions on trading away Burress for Ronnie Brown and Chad Johnson.

Scroll up a few posts to see the details.

Thanks.

The point I'm making is that you should expect less. Like closer to 50% than 65%.I don't think Brown getting, say, 15 out of 28 carries in a given game (including a roughly even split at the GL) for a mediocre offense like the Dolphins have, is going to support top 5 numbers. Probably nowhere close, actually. And top 5 is what I see some projecting, including the Top 250 list.

I think right now, you have to say the RBs shake out like this:

1) AP

2) Portis

3) Ronnie Brown.

Ronnie is having a nice season, and he gets to do what no other RB really gets to do: LINE UP AS A QB FOR 5 - 10 SNAPS A GAME. The Wildcat didn't work last week b/c Baltimore is an agressive D, but ronnie is going to get the ball (a lot).

I almost traded portis for Brown, but I thought better of it (this was 3 weeks ago). If I thought I could get brown for a guy like M Turner, I would make the deal in a heartbeat. The dolphin o line is getting better and the dude plays QB for a few snaps.

This is exactly what I'm trying to do.

Through Week 7 he has 19 yards passing and 1TD passing. While I think it is a bonus to be lined up at QB, I don't think we should get overly excited about it. I think Brown has an excellent schedule, but I definitely think anyone expecting him to finish top 5 is drinking some Brown kool-aid. Just my 2 cents......Besides, Torain is going to finish in the top 5. Is there enough room for both?

Just sent LT and Owens for Ronnie, Plax, and Cutler..

I'm seriously maybe Ronnie's biggest fan. HUGE mancrush.

That said, I completely expect top 5 #s from here on out.

7, 11, 42, bye, 19, 18, 3---Those are Brown's numbers by week in my PPR league. I am a huge Footballguys fan, but the fact is that they have jumped the gun on several occasions this year in their "Upgrades" column. In the Week 6 Upgrades, they said "Brown looks like a top ten fantasy RB from here on out." Perhaps, but what is that based on? Just because he had a decent game and had 24 carries the prior week? He's not the only player that they have rushed to judgement on this year. I realize there should be optimism (otherwise it wouldn't be called "Upgrades"), but they seem to be jumping on bandwagons too quickly this year. Nothing against the staff here, just an observation.

Back to your question--I traded for him two weeks ago (gave up Holt and MJD for Brown and Royal). I can't say that I feel confident even starting him as a RB2 in a ten team league (I couldn't say that about MJD either). So, I feel your question about why they have him so high in the Top 250 is justified.

He's currently tied for RB8 (non-PPR). Steven Jackson (RB6) and Michael Turner (RB7) are the only RBs ahead of Ronnie Brown who have also had their bye. IOW, the top 5 RBs right now have all played 7 games, while Brown has only played 6. Brown only trails Turner by 1 point and Jackson by 5 points. He has a ridiculously easy schedule ahead of him. One could point to his monster game against NE as inflating his numbers, but one would also have to consider his first two weeks when the Dolphins were working him back in. As long as he stays healthy, I don't see how he doesn't finish in the top 10.

Why would you expect closer to 50%? The numbers don't support that. Take a look at 2 game splits since he became the starter in week 3:Weeks 3&5: 41/70 carries, 59%Weeks 5&6: 37/61 carries, 61%Weeks 6&7: 26/41 carries, 63%If anything, his percentage of carries appear to be increasing.

You guys are crazy. The league will catch up to the Wildcat. Ronnie Brown is a top 12 RB at best for the rest of the year. Plus he'll probably get hurt again. He's a good person to have for week 16 vs. KC, so try and "steal" him for something low if you can before that game.

Ronnie did just fine last year with a despicable excuse for an OL, no QB, no coaching staff, and no wildcat. He was the top scoring fantasy RB in the league when he went down. The line is exponentially better now, there is competence at QB, the coaching staff has been brilliant, and the Wildcat is still going to be effective. Just because the best rush D in the NFL was able to shut it down does not mean that the rest of the league will. What does "top 12 at best" mean anyway? Top 12 could be 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 12th. If you are attempting to say that 12th is the best he can finish, I just cannot possibly understand any logic behind that. His numbers over the last 2 years of games played are not a fluke.

You didn't watch any Dolphin games last year did you.
