Top 30 RB's (1 Viewer)

Go deep

Footballguy
With the FF playoffs upon us, i thought we could discuss the best RB's to start this week. I will start off with my top 30:

1. Chris Johnson (Nothing should get CJ over the hump better than a home game against the Colts.)

2. Maurice Jones-Drew (The leading rusher over the last 5 weeks, and now gets a home game against the Raiders #21 run defense)

3. Peyton Hillis (The only offensive weapon should see even more touches when you consider the weather in Buffalo this week)

4. Michael Turner (Has been playing very well and now gets the Panthers #25 run defense)

5. Lesean Mccoy (The 4th highest scoring RB this season goes up against the Cowboys defense in what will likely be one of the highest scoring games of the week)

6. Rashard Mendenhall (Should see 30 carries at home against the Bengals #22 ranked run D)

7. Knowshon Moreno (The 6th highest scoring Rb over the last 4 weeks goes up against the Cardinals #28 run defense. It probably wont hurt that the Rb coach is now the head coach)

8. Adrian Peterson (A tough matchup against the Giants D, but should see plenty of work with Favre and Gerhart banged up)

9. Arian Foster (Fortunately for Foster he catches alot of passes, going up against the Ravens D this week, there might not be much room to run)

10. Jamaal Charles (Is there a better Rb in the league than Charles right now? 2nd in the league in rushing yards while averaging 6.2 YPC. The Chargers have a good run D, but with Cassel likely out, he should see a ton of touches)

11. Jonathan Stewart (The Panthers running game has been clicking lately, with Goodson banged up, Stewart will get alot of work at home against the Falcons)

12. Fred Jackson (Nasty weather should mean more running and short passes, Jackson should have a good game against a below average Browns run D)

13. Ray Rice (I hate having him this high, but its a good matchup against the Texans Monday night)

14. Chris Ivory (Been playing well lately, and i look for another good game at home against the Rams)

15. Darren Mcfadden (Having a great season, going up against an average Jags defense)

16. James Starks (Thats right, i have him this high. 18 carries in his debut last week, should see at least that, and maybe even a few catches against a poor Lions defense)

17. Steven Jackson (Maybe a little low, but i dont expect the Rams to be running much while playing from behind all day)

18. Mike Tolbert (Chiefs are better agianst the run, so i expect Chargers to pass alot in a must win game. Tolbert should still be good for 70-80 yards and a good shot at a TD)

19. Amhad Bradshaw (I love Bradhsaw, but a tough matchup on the road against the Vikings, and still splitting caarries with Jacobs)

20. Matt Forte (Should have a decent game at home aganst the Pats defense in another game with crappy weather)

21. Lagarette Blount (I wouldnt want to have to start him )

22. Felix Jones (Could have a big game home against the Eagles, remember Javid Best in week 2?)

23. BenJarvis Green Ellis (Macthups dont get much harder than in Chicago)

24. Marshawn Lynch (Great game last week, but i wouldnt count on another in SF. Decent chance at a short TD though.)

25. Ladanian Tomlinson (Hasnt done much fro fanatsy owners sicen the begining of the season)

26. Tim Hightower (Could be a good play home against the Broncos defense, but how much will Wells play?)

27. Tashard Choice (Both Dallas RB's are capable of having solid games this week.)

28. Brian Westbrook (Good matchup at home against the Seahawks, should be good for 80-90 yards, unlikely to score a TD though)

29. Jahvid Best (Looked better last week, could rack up alot of gargbage yards while the Lions play catchup all game)

30. Ryan Torain (If you made it this far, its not likely you did so needing to start guys like Torain)

Without turning this into a WDIS, lets discuss.

1) What's your knock on Blount this week? I would say he's good for at least 80 and a TD.

2) Move CJ down. The Titans appear to have given up. The last two weeks were touted as juicy match ups for CJ, and he flopped.

3)I would have Choice a bit higher, Hightower lower

Green-Ellis has been very successful against the Jets and Steelers, why can't he produce against Chicago? Brady's throwing skills have opened up lanes for G-E, and it's possible that he could get plenty of touches if the weather is bad.

I dont have a big problem with Blount, i just like the other guys better. I dont think he will hit 80 rushing yards though, and since he doesnt cacth passes, he will need to score a TD to have any value this week. i would say that is 50/50 at best. What are the odds CJ has 3 bad games in a row? Especially when the 3rd game is against the worst run defense in the league. Why would you have Choice higher than Hightower?

A guy who is averaging 20+ touches a week over the past 4-5 games and 4.5yp/carry needs a TD to have value? We def don't see eye to eye.

Green-Ellis is averaging 4.8 YPC at home and 3.7 on the road. I doubt that road average will be going up this week against the Bears.

In the last 5 weeks Blount has had 91 carries and 0 receptions. Which is 18 touches per week. He also averages less than 4 YPC on the road, which he is this week.

...and if mcnabb/Torain/Williams gash them quick he becomes useless in come from behind situations.

19.5 over the last 4 games and 82.75 yards per game... point being he has value.

Yep, i was going to point that out, but most people would argue that Washington is unlikely to get very far ahead of TB. However, i actually think it is more likely than people might think.

I didnt say he didnt have value, i have him ranked as a low end #2 RB.

In non-ppr leagues I have Blount in my top ten.. I see 100 and a score as very likely.

Washington has all but given up on Defense allowing 200 + on the ground last week... Take the Haynesworth suspension and the fact that I am sure spirits arent real high in DC and I dont see them all of a sudden shutting down Legarrette... I see the potential for a Huge week.

I dont want to come off as a Blount hater, it is possible has has a big game, but the same could be said about anyone on the list. The Haynesworth suspension might help the Redskins defense, he was nothing but a distraction anyway.

you said "I dont have a big problem with Blount, i just like the other guys better. I dont think he will hit 80 rushing yards though, and since he doesnt cacth passes, he will need to score a TD to have any value this week. i would say that is 50/50 at best."

So, to have any value he needs a TD, which ur putting at 50/50.... Technically your saying theres a 50% chance he has any value.... but his last 4 games shows he DOES have value even if held TD-less.

Is he a stud? I wouldnt go nearly that far... But against the WAS DEF he has plenty of value

it's opinion.. like i said, we dont see eye to eye

Those road games were vs top 10 run Ds... not Washington.

Blounts FF points over the last 4 weeks

15.1 (scored 1 TD)

8.2 (didnt score a TD)

5.5 (didnt score a TD)

16.3 (scored a TD)

So, he has scored a TD 50% of the time, which i said is his chance of scoring one this week. In the two gammes he didnt score a TD, he has averaged less than 7 FF points. Maybe not worthless, but pretty close to it.

Where would you have Blount ranked?

this week? I wouldnt be shocked to see a 100yd 2td game...

but my expectation are tempered to 90 and 1td.

my 2 cents: against a terrible rush def in inclimate weather, i am predicting >12 points (60+ yards and a TD as a floor) and <22 points (100+ yards and 2 TDs as a ceiling)

120 of his 306 yards and his only 2 TD's on the road came against Arizona. His other 4 road games he had 186 yards and 0 TD's. Arizona is not a top 10 run defense, they are even worse than the Redskins.

Atlanta has the 3rd best rush def in the league, according to cbs...I don't trust Stewart against that kind of competition. In addition, the Falcons may run away with this one early, making the Carolina running game obsolete.

Falcons are 8th in the league in rush yards per game, allowing 98.5. The Falcons are a TD favorite, but divisional games are usually close. Especially when the inferior team is at home. Im not suggesting the Panthers will win, but i dont think it will be a blowout. With Goodson not 100%, the Panthers offense will go through Stewart this week. I have Stewart for 100 total yards and a TD this week.

my stats say the Falcons are giving up 19.3 carries per game for 77.0 yds rushing per game (they do allow 32 rec yds per game, but that is still not getting the 98.5...but that's total yards and Stu doesn't do much in the rec game) and 0.25 td/g rushing. I don't think Stewart gets 77 and wouldn't be on a td either with him having a whopping 2 rush td on the year. I realize that is with a timeshare, but the last time I listened to someone hyping Stu was vs the Rams after DWill went down...he was ranked #5 by FBG that week, result was 14 carries for 30 yds, 0 tds

http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?tab...mp;d-447263-n=1Stewart has 100 yards in each of his last two games, and those were on the road. Granted, it was against defenses that are not as good against the run, but Stewart is still one of the most talented backs in the league, and now he is back to the clear #1 RB.

Also notice the Falcons are 19th in YPC against.

With the FF playoffs upon us, i thought we could discuss the best RB's to start this week. I will start off with my top 30:

1. Chris Johnson (Nothing should get CJ over the hump better than a home game against the Colts.) Too high - Indy might have a crappy run "D", but when the Titans are down by 20 at halftime they'll have to throw. The coaching staff hasn't seemed inclined to get him touches as late either.

6. Adrian Peterson (A tough matchup against the Giants D, but should see plenty of work with Favre and Gerhart banged up)

7. Rashard Mendenhall (Should see 30 carries at home against the Bengals #22 ranked run D)

8. Knowshon Moreno (The 6th highest scoring Rb over the last 4 weeks goes up against the Cardinals #28 run defense. It probably wont hurt that the Rb coach is now the head coach)

9. Arian Foster (Fortunately for Foster he catcehs alot of passes, going up against the Ravens D this week, there might not be much room to run)

10. Jamaal Charles (Is there a better Rb in the league than Charles right now? 2nd in the league in rushing yards while averaging 6.2 YPC. The Chargers have a good run D, but with Cassel likely out, he should see a ton of touches)

11. Jonathan Stewart (The Panthers running game has been clicking lately, with Goodson banged up, Stewart will get alot of work at home against the Falcons) Too High - Tough "D" and could well be down 21 pts at halftime.

12. Fred Jackson (Nasty weather should mean more runnng and short passes, Jackson should have a good game against a below average Browns run D)

13. Ray Rice (I hate having him this high, but its a good matchup against the Texans Monday night)

14. Chris Ivory (Been playing well lately, and i look for another good game at home against the Rams)

15. Darren Mcfadden (Having a great season, going up against an average Jags defense) Too High - The Jags are contenders and they'll come out focused on stopping McFadden and Ford. Plus, DMac is starting to look a little gun shy of late instead of pounding the ball hard like earlier in the year.

16. James Starks (Thats right, i have him this high. 18 carries in his debut last week, should see at least that, and maybe even a few catches against a poor Lions defense)

17. Mike Tolbert (Chiefs are better agianst the run, so i expect Chargers to pass alot in a must win game. Tolbert should still be good for 70-80 yards and a good shot at a TD)

18. Steven Jackson (Maybe a little low, but i dont expect the Rams to be running much while playing from behind all day)

19. Amhad Bradshaw (I love Bradhsaw, but a tough matchup on the road against the Vikings, and still splitting caarries with Jacobs)

20. Matt Forte (Should have a decent game at home aganst the Pats defense in another game with crappy weather)

21. Felix Jones (Could have a big game home against the Eagles, remember Javid Best in week 2?)

22. Brian Westbrook (Good matchup at home against the Seahawks, should be good for 80-90 yards, unlikely to score a TD thoguh)

23. Lagarette Blount (I wouldnt want to have to start him) Too Low. Weather, success against Atlanta, and Washington crappy "D" points to a solid week

24. Ladanian Tomlinson (Hasnt done much fro fanatsy owners sicen the begining of the season)

25. BenJarvis Green Ellis (Macthups dont get much harder than in Chicago) Too Low - Chicago will be scared of Brady and that should make room for BGE. He isn't a great runner, he just has a QB that makes defenses nervous.

26. Tim Hightower (Could be a good play home against the Broncos defense, but how much will Wells play?)

27. Marshawn Lynch (Great game last week, but i wouldnt count on another in SF. Decent chance at a short TD though.)

28. Jahvid Best (Looked better last week, could rack up alot of gargbage yards while the Lions play catchup all game)

29. Tashard Choice (Both Dallas RB's are capable of having solid games this week.)

30. Ryan Torain (If you made it this far, its not likely you did so needing to start guys like Torain)

Without turning this into a WDIS, lets discuss.
Thanks for taking the time to put this together. I think you did a nice job. I included a few of my thoughts, but nicely done overall.

 You seem to be with the consensus. So far Chris Johnson, Stewart, BJGE and Blount have already been pointed out as being to high or low. You are the first to mention DMac though. Arent the things you are saying about the Jags true about the Chargers last week? Mcfadden looked pretty good against them, and they have a better defense.

Ive already commented on the others, thanks for the feedback.

We wont have to wait long to see who is right about CJ. 150+ yards tonight, 2 TD's. For the record, i dont own him in any leagues(at least in any leagues where i am still in or dont have a bye)

I hope you are right, unlike CJ, i have him in two leagues that count this week(not including FBG contest, but i think the other 249 teams all own him as well) I just have a feeling the Ravens will shut him fdown on the ground, i am banking on receiving yards and a TD, that why i have him at 9.

the buzz here in Dallas is Choice is now King of the Cows as has been predicted much of the season once he got in the mix

21. Felix Jones (Could have a big game home against the Eagles, remember Javid Best in week 2?)

29. Tashard Choice (Both Dallas RB's are capable of having solid games this week.)

swap those positions for sure

1) What's your knock on Blount this week? I would say he's good for at least 80 and a TD.

2) Move CJ down. The Titans appear to have given up. The last two weeks were touted as juicy match ups for CJ, and he flopped.

3)I would have Choice a bit higher, Hightower lower

I dont think he will hit 80 rushing yards though, and since he doesnt cacth passes, he will need to score a TD to have any value this week. i would say that is 50/50 at best. What are the odds CJ has 3 bad games in a row? Especially when the 3rd game is against the worst run defense in the league.

Why would you have Choice higher than Hightower?
I know it's nitpicking but the Bills are the worst run defense in the league. Indy is the 29th ranked run defense.

In non-ppr leagues I have Blount in my top ten.. I see 100 and a score as very likely.Washington has all but given up on Defense allowing 200 + on the ground last week...
Haynesworth wasn't even playing on running downs anyway.

Your right, i wasnt being technical, i was just trying to say that the Colts run D is terrible.

With the FF playoffs upon us, i thought we could discuss the best RB's to start this week. I will start off with my top 30:1. Chris Johnson (Nothing should get CJ over the hump better than a home game against the Colts.)2. Maurice Jones-Drew (The leading rusher over the last 5 weeks, and now gets a home game against the Raiders #21 run defense)3. Peyton Hillis (The only offensive weapon should see even more touches when you consider the weather in Buffalo this week)4. Michael Turner (Has been playing very well and now gets the Panthers #25 run defense)5. Lesean Mccoy (The 4th highest scoring RB this season goes up against the Cowboys defense in what will likely be one of the highest scoring games of the week)6. Adrian Peterson (A tough matchup against the Giants D, but should see plenty of work with Favre and Gerhart banged up)7. Rashard Mendenhall (Should see 30 carries at home against the Bengals #22 ranked run D)8. Knowshon Moreno (The 6th highest scoring Rb over the last 4 weeks goes up against the Cardinals #28 run defense. It probably wont hurt that the Rb coach is now the head coach)9. Arian Foster (Fortunately for Foster he catcehs alot of passes, going up against the Ravens D this week, there might not be much room to run)10. Jamaal Charles (Is there a better Rb in the league than Charles right now? 2nd in the league in rushing yards while averaging 6.2 YPC. The Chargers have a good run D, but with Cassel likely out, he should see a ton of touches)11. Jonathan Stewart (The Panthers running game has been clicking lately, with Goodson banged up, Stewart will get alot of work at home against the Falcons)12. Fred Jackson (Nasty weather should mean more runnng and short passes, Jackson should have a good game against a below average Browns run D)13. Ray Rice (I hate having him this high, but its a good matchup against the Texans Monday night)14. Chris Ivory (Been playing well lately, and i look for another good game at home against the Rams)15. Darren Mcfadden (Having a great season, going up against an average Jags defense)16. James Starks (Thats right, i have him this high. 18 carries in his debut last week, should see at least that, and maybe even a few catches against a poor Lions defense)17. Mike Tolbert (Chiefs are better agianst the run, so i expect Chargers to pass alot in a must win game. Tolbert should still be good for 70-80 yards and a good shot at a TD)18. Steven Jackson (Maybe a little low, but i dont expect the Rams to be running much while playing from behind all day)19. Amhad Bradshaw (I love Bradhsaw, but a tough matchup on the road against the Vikings, and still splitting caarries with Jacobs)20. Matt Forte (Should have a decent game at home aganst the Pats defense in another game with crappy weather)21. Felix Jones (Could have a big game home against the Eagles, remember Javid Best in week 2?)22. Brian Westbrook (Good matchup at home against the Seahawks, should be good for 80-90 yards, unlikely to score a TD thoguh)23. Lagarette Blount (I wouldnt want to have to start him)24. Ladanian Tomlinson (Hasnt done much fro fanatsy owners sicen the begining of the season)25. BenJarvis Green Ellis (Macthups dont get much harder than in Chicago)26. Tim Hightower (Could be a good play home against the Broncos defense, but how much will Wells play?)27. Marshawn Lynch (Great game last week, but i wouldnt count on another in SF. Decent chance at a short TD though.)28. Jahvid Best (Looked better last week, could rack up alot of gargbage yards while the Lions play catchup all game)29. Tashard Choice (Both Dallas RB's are capable of having solid games this week.)30. Ryan Torain (If you made it this far, its not likely you did so needing to start guys like Torain)Without turning this into a WDIS, lets discuss.
Your list is really weird to me. It seems like a mix between beginning of the year rankings and new breakthrough type guys littered randomly throughout the list. The reason i say this kind of looks like a beginning of the year ranking list in part is because CJ is your #1. This is a mistake, no way i would have him higher than #5, despite a soft matchup. Lagarrette Blount is the most shocking to me, ranked at 23 and noted: "I wouldn't want to have to start him." This is a rookie who is now the premier RB on a top quality team which may be without their best WR and going against a porous Wash DC defense (who have suspended their best, by far, run stopper). Not to mention this same rookie just went off on a premier defense last week getting 100+ yard and a TD (should have been 2 TDs or even possibly 3 if the coach would have made the proper calls). Not to mention he can be penciled in for roughly 20 carries per week now. I mean, would anyone in their right mind actually start James Stark over Blount this week? Despite the fact that i like Starks as a stash guy, to have him at 16 and Blount as 23 is just mind boggling. The scene is now set for Blount to have an absolute monster game this week, i will be starting him with utmost confidence and be expecting RB#1 numbers. Also, as a Jstew owner, I like seeing him at 11 this week, it's just not very realistic. I've always loved Stewart that's why i made the mistake of drafting him this year, lol. But how in the world can he be ranked at 11? I could name off at least 5 players you have behind him who i would rather have instead of Stewart, most notably Mcfadden who is now a premier RB in the league.

You beat me to my reply but pretty much hit on my reasoning for the decision to start LB over Bradshaw, who has a wrist injury that should tie in nicely to the fumbling issue. If anyone comes out as a surprise from this game I think it might be Benn, not enough to start him unless you have a flex option. Also the NYG staff keeps wanting Eli to throw, even when he doesn't have to. Seems like they're forcing the issue instead of letting the run game establish itself. All in all, I certainly could be wrong and they probably will end up fairly even. I simply feel that Blount has a ton more upside than Bradshaw this week.

Ive already commented on all the players you mentioned other than Starks. Is he a gutsy call at 16, maybe, but in his first game he was given 18 carries and averaged over 4 YPC, and while the 49ers are not a great defense, they are alot better than the Lions. I think Starks gets the majority of the touches again this week, and 120 total yards.

Which 4 RB's do you think will score more than 24 fantasy points(or 32 in PR)?

I think P. Thomas is likely to cut into Ivory's load.
He might get a few of the RB touches, but there will be plenty to go around. I cant see Thomas getting more than 4-5 carries and maybe a few receptions in hs first game back. Plus, Ivory is the goalline back, and it is pretty likely he scores at least one this week. Drop him a couple spots in PPR though.

always nice to gloat over results oriented thinking.
He mentioned in another thread that CJ should still be outside of the top 5 RB's this week. I would just like to know which 5 RB's he thinks will score more than 24 points.

i dont think its an unreasonable position considering how lackluster cj and esp the titans had been.

hillis is the no2 fantasy back and is playing the worst run d in what could be inclement conditions. turner is playing another defense that has been absolutely gashed on the ground the last few weeks and even by some weaker ground games like seattle.

i think those 2 stand above the rest and cj could be projected anywhere in the next group of guys like mccoy (nice matchup, great offense), moreno (fantastic matchup), blount (matchup and been crushing), mjd (been heavily utilized and nice matchup at home), peterson (beast), foster (Beast).

i just hold much stock in statements like this"

What are the odds CJ has 3 bad games in a row?

Thinking that any five RBs would outscore CJ this week is not the same thing as picking out 5 specific RBs to do it. (good work on calling CJ btw)

"What are the odds CJ has 3 bad games in a row", wasnt my arguent of why he would have a good game. Like i said before, CJ is one of the best RB's in the league, and was at home against one of the worst run defenses in the league. The fact that he didnt have good games in the previous two has nothing to do with how he will play in the following week. I like Hillis and Turner this week too, but considering both are on the road, i gave CJ the #1 spot. RB's typically have better numbers at home than on the road. Both Hillis and Turner are rushing for 4.1 YPC and .5 TD's a game on the road this season.

I understand, but you cant say i am crazy for having CJ as the #1 RB this week, then after he goes for 24 FF points say "I stand by my statement that CJ will not be a top 5 RB". It doesnt take a genius to figure out that at least one of the other 31 starting RB's is going to have a better game. If having CJ as the #1 Rb was so crazy, then he should give me one player that will be the #1 then. Let me ask this. If you could pick any two RB's in the league for your starting lineup this week, who would you pick, knowing what we know now about the Titans/Colts game?
