all this top movies, top books, etc. chat had me wondering what great albums i might be missing out on. those that you put on and play straight through. no skips. no letdowns. just a straight through, start to finish, must listen.

looking for some new recommendation that may be new to me (and others)

GO

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
The Clash - London Calling
The Police - Synchronicity

Can't think of any others off the top of my head right now.

Rush - 2112
U2 - The Unforgettable Fire
Led Zeppelin II
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Nirvana - MTV Unplugged in New York

Other Rush albums also have to be played in order, but not ones most people care about.
I second many of the above listed in the thread, including the several Beatles and U2 albums mentioned.

In no particular order, also assuming studio albums only:

DMB - Under the Table and Dreaming
DMB - Crash
DMB - Before These Crowded Streets
Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
Ice Cube - Death Certificate

Newer material: Kendrick Lamar - GNX

I have an 18+ hour playlist of albums with songs I don't skip! They are not necessarily in order, but here on the first 5 on the list:

Jeff Rosenstock - WORRY.
Willie Nelson - Red Headed Stranger
Guns N' Roses - Appetite for Destruction
Tool - Undertow
The Beatles - Abbey Road

The Black Crowes - The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion

Just musical perfection, all the way down to the Time Will Tell cover at the end of the record.

I remember how blown away I was the first time I heard this record - the back up singers are so on point throughout and it just jams.

Add in Marc Ford's guitar leads and solos, Eddie Harsch's brilliance on the Hammond B3, Chris Robinson's voice being in top form, and the fact that the whole thing was recorded in like, 8 days...just stellar.

King's X - Gretchen Goes to Nebraska
Paul Simon - Graceland
Wham! - Make it Big
U2 - All that You Can't Leave Behind
Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life

eta

Eric Clapton - From the Cradle

if we need to remove one, it would have to be the U2 album because it's got a weak song on there that I skip sometimes.

It's a great question but some of the above posts mention a cut or two that might make it harder to say. When I copied albums onto tape I almost always skipped something. Dark Side of the Moon was one that was hard to skip through though because the songs ran into each other so well.

NIN - Downward Spiral
Chemical Brothers - Surrender
STP - Core
LCD Soundsystem- Sounds of Silver
Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger

listening to albums has been killed by streaming and algos. Too many to list and many favorites already listed

Pearl Jam - Ten

Taylor Swift - 1989
Poor Old Lu - A Picture of the 8th Wonder
Radiohead - In Rainbows
