Top 50 Sandwiches - Ranked by Scoresman (1 Viewer)

Let the arguments continue!

Inspired by @Dan Lambskin 's cheese thread, I'll be ranking the top 50 sandwiches.

What qualifies me to rank these?

Sandwiches are a top 3 food for me behind pasta and pizza. I have had the good fortune to be able to travel to many places of this country and others to try some of the world's best sandwiches. I was easily able to come up with 50 to rank.

Important stuff now. What qualifies as a sandwich? How do you distinguish between two very similar sandwiches?

- Hot dogs and their sort are NOT included in this list.
- Hamburgers are NOT included in this list. However, some other very similar sandwiches might make an appearance. The distinction is nuanced and will be explained as we go along.
- Tacos are NOT included in this list. But some taco-like sandwiches from other countries are eligible. Again, it's nuanced.

- Differentiating between two very similar sandwiches. This will mainly be up to me. Basically, if a sandwich has a different name from a similar one, and would generally be a separate menu item, it will be a separate entry. But stuff like "Turkey sandwich with pickles" and "Turkey sandwich without pickles" are not separate entries.

- I'm ranking these based off of my own taste but nothing should be wildly out of left field. There will be some hurt butts along the way though. I have a one or two extreme ingredient dislikes that eliminated one or two fairly popular sandwiches.
- This is a list of sandwich types, not specific menu or deli versions. So you won't see "The 10 pounder!" from Fat Guy Deli in Newark, NJ". However, I may spotlight some of my favorite places that offer the listed sandwich in my writeup.

I am finishing up the rankings and didn't want to start my countdown until Dan's cheese thread finished.

See, this is a tough exercise...There are good Reubens and there are poor Reubens. There are good Philly cheese steaks and there are poor Philly cheese steaks. And so on. I am curious, @Scoresman, are you going to specify from where these sandwiches come? Or will these simply be listed in general categories?

ETA...Oh, and if the DiNic's roast pork doesn't make your list, you have lost all credibility with me.

General, but I will be specific about ingredients for each that can vary. So for example, if I have Philly Cheeseteak listed, I will tell you what I consider a good Philly Cheesesteak (hint: the cheese plays a big role) and that will be the basis for the ranking.

True. Although even among the “bad” there’s a hierarchy.
For example, I’ve never had a Reuben I didn’t want to finish.
A bad seafood sandwich is a lot worse than a bad pulled pork.

It would be great if you gave examples of the best you’ve had, if from a restaurant.

On holiday near OC MD last week. Stopped by the one bagel place nearby and ordered the classic- toasted poppy with sausage egg and cheese. They used cream cheese as the cheese.

Would.
Yup. One of my favorite homemade sandwiches is toasted bagel (usually plain, asiago, parmesan, or everything), cream cheese spread on bottom half of bagel, then salami, bacon, and a slice of American cheese. Then, that gut bomb is microwaved for 30 secs. Mmmmmmm.......

Scoresman always has good food takes so I expect this will be a must read. For me, it is really hard to beat a good Reuben or cuban

Can’t wait to see the grilled cheese sandwich pop up and worlds collide. I mean what type of cheese(s) will be mentioned. 🤯

Are you all communists?

I’m just hoping we can make moops as upset over here
Being someone who doesn't eat meat, I take my cheese very serious. I won't have too many comments in the sandwich thread until the greatest sandwich ever, a grilled cheese, shows up on the list.

Also love me some shrimp/fish/oyster poboys though

I will most definitely melt and type of cheese on just about any type of bread and top with some dijon and go sit in the corner and quietly enjoy my sandwich
