Trade 1 01 for DHOP? (1 Viewer)

I believe my team is a strong contender to win my league this year. In a 10 team PPR league my current draft picks. 1.01, 2.3, 2.10, 3.1, 3.7

I think DHOP will put me over the top, but not sure if trading the 1.01 will hurt me for the future. 

My RBs: Barkley, Chubb, Drake,  Penny

WRs: Evans,  AROB,  Ridley, Diggs, Terry,  Cooks, Fuller, M  Jones, T. Williams, Gage

QBs: Tannehill,  Newton, 

TE: Engram, and Griffin 

I will be addressing QB in the draft as it's a rookie/vet mix and Bridgewater is available along with Hurst.

I have started to factor in the likelihood of a shortened/cancelled season and how that might affect older players when evaluating trades.  Especially if you are giving up premier draft picks.  All that to say do you know what your league will be doing in a short season situation?  How long can you keep players and what is the penalty (salary cap, round lost, limit on years kept, etc)?

Also, what are your starting requirements?  You have two solid RB's but could use some long term depth.  Your WR's are also good at the top with some questions & potential.  

On the surface giving up 1.01 for Hopkins seems like a solid deal but to be sure knowing the info for the questions I asked would be helpful.

My gut reaction is that it's a great deal for you, but that is absent the details @Gally mentions such as lineup requirements and the keeper rules.

You have decent depth at WR but not real superstar WOW factor depth - Hopkins adds that, and gives you the flexibility to use ARob, Diggs, Ridley, Cooks etc. in packages for TE or QB help if you are not able to address both via the draft, while keeping a pretty strong 3rd/4th WR/flex on the roster.

On the surface, it's a really good deal for you.  But WR isn't a weakness.  While you don't have an elite WR, you have a slew of solid WRs and ones with potential.   But Hopkins, Evans, Robinson and Ridley would be a very nice quartet of WRs.

Your issue is at QB and TE (Engram is solid but he's injury prone).  You need another QB to pair with Tannehill.  You have the 1st pick and the 13th pick.  Questions are 1) can you get Burrow or Tua at the 2.3 pick?   Is Hopkins worth more than taking Edwards-Helare or Taylor at 1.1?   What are your starting lineup requirements?  You consider trading for Hopkins if you can start 4WRs or more.

Based on your team, you're playing to win now.  Assuming that you can start 4WRs, make the deal for Hopkins, and hope either Burrow or Tua gets to you at 13.  If for any reason they do not get back to you at 13, you have a lot of nice options to trade to get a QB to pair with Tannehill.

@Blackbear the only vet QB left that is worthwhile is Bridgewater,  I also have an offer posed to me for my 3.7 for Darnold. As of now no one wants the 1.1, but as we get closer to the draft I'll see of anyone is Itching to move up.

i agree with your thinking of a young QB at 2.3, but I just got an offer for my 3.7 for Darnold. Right now I'm leaning DHOP, but the thought of possibly 4 RB1s on my roster ( Drake, Barkley,  Chubb,CEH) would allow me to make some trades down the road as well to help bolster the team long term.

Thanks for the feedback.  Currently we can start 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 2 Flex. We have 25 man rosters,  but only get to keep 15 ( I'm fighting to change this or add a taxi squad).

Only vet available that's worthwhile in our combined rookie/vet draft is Bridgewater at this point.  

I'm leaning DHOP for the 1.1, but the thought of having possibly having 3 stud RBs (Barkley, Chubb, CEH) and Drake is tempting.  However, DHOP is still a top 10 dynasty asset

Are these trades happening before or after keeper declarations?

Given lineup reqs, etc., here is my opinion:

1.1 For Hopkins - I think this is a definite make the trade regardless if it is before or after keeper declarations. You mentioned the possibility of having 4 RB1s, and that would be nice, but, as least in most PPR systems, Hopkins outperforms all but the top 5 or so RBs most years, has consistently done so, and WRs have much longer viable fantasy careers compared to most RBs. A lineup of Barkley and Chubb at RB, Hopkins and Evans at WR and the combo of Drake, ARob, Ridley and Diggs is far superior to removing Hopkins from the lineup and adding CEH to the flex mix. Unless CEH becomes a consistent top 5 RB (not impossible, but I would say it is unlikely), then you lose out by not taking Hopkins and what is likely to be top 5 WR performances for the next 4-5 years.

3.7 for Darnold - If this is before keeper declarations, it's a bit more questionable as you need to factor in who you can no longer keeper if you do the deal, and also try and guess if any QBs will be cut and thus available in the draft. If this is after keeper declarations, than I think it is an accept for you since you say there are no QBs available other than Bridgewater and the rookies. Even with Newton signing with the Patriots, it is an incentive laden deal that, from my understanding, makes it pretty cheap for the Patriots to let him go if they decide that Stidham is their starter and they don't want to carry Newton. Obviously if Newton is the starter he gets added into your QB mix, but if Bridgewater is the only non-rookie QB available in the draft, Darnold makes a very suitable QB option at a relatively cheap cost of the 3.7 pick.

You're defintiely keeping Tannehill, Newton, Barkley, Chubb, Drake, Hopkins, Evans, Robinson, Ridley,Diggs, McLaurin, M Jones, and Entgram.  That is 13 players and you keep 15.  So you have to decide....do you want to keep both HOU WRs or one of them and pick up Darnold?    So I agree with acarey50......if the deal is after declarations, easy accept.  If not, you have a decision to make.  Personally, I would drop Cooks and take Darnold for 3.7.  Cooks is essentially 1 concussion away from being done.  For 3.7, it's a cheap price to see if Darnold takes the next step.  Remember you're weak at QB, so I like to a have a few options and play matchups.

The trade now becomes whoever you have to drop and 1.01 for Hopkins.  It's probably not enough to sway the deal but it should be looked at.
