Trade Advice (1 Viewer)

Would you make this trade? I think this is good value but want some other opinions.

B. Dawkins (12th ranked DB in our league)

for

2007 4.2 pick

2008 2nd

I am stacked at DB, so it won't hurt me that much to lose him, but want to get good value for him. He is an older guy obviously, but he still puts up great numbers.

12 Team Dynasty

Tack - 2pts

Asst Tack - 1pts

PD - 4pts

Int - 6pts

Sack - 8pts

FF -2pts

FR - 6pts

Edit to post who my DB's are. Start 4 and I have A. Wilson, T. Polamlu, G. Wilson, S. Jones, K. Kennedy, and B. Dawkins.

I own Dawkins and I am a big fan. To me the key to this trade is depth and you say that you have alot of it. I also have good depth at CB/DB and if it was me I would take the trade. There is decent talent to be had in the fourth round of the rookie draft and the 2nd rounder in next years draft could be huge. I would make the trade.

I agree. I too have Dawkins and love him, but I have to wonder how long 1) he'll remain in excellent physical form and 2) the Eagles will keep him such that you can count on their system to give him so many tackles.

The value of those picks - assuming you put them to good use - far outweighs the two or so more good years you could reasonably expect from Dawkins.

Really guys?

You're going to move a guy who blew up after Considine entered the lineup (avg 5 solos/game) in a big play oriented system (a DB1) for a flyer fourth rounder this year and an unknown second rounder next year? You may not see any value from either pick until mid-2008.

Not me.

me either, and i tend to under value the DB position since it is so deep...with dawkins you get something that is damn hard to predict in FF: CONSISTENCY people tend to fall in love with Draft Picks but go back and take a look at 3 or 4 yrs worth of picks and see how many players are HITS vs MISSES...what is the success rate on 1st rounders?(let alone 2nd or 4ths)

The original poster DID say he was deep at DB.... and Dawkins is no spring chicken. In dynasties, I like to trade older players for additional picks. Yes, picks are over rated, but accumulating picks is a great way to avoid complete rebuilds. If losing Dawkins doesn't make his starting line up any worse, yes, make the deal. The only way I know of to stay competitive each year and remain that way is to trade older players that don't weaken your present roster and pile up picks.

In a 12 team league, a 4.2 is nothing to sneeze at either. That's the 38th pick. In my 16 team leagues, that's the 50th pick. Big difference. Then, he has an extra 2nd next year. I'd be on this like Rodman on Carmen Electra.

People say I'm nuts when I say it's not that difficult to get a lineup full of studs. But owners will sell consistently above average players like Keith Brooking, Michael Strahan, etc because they're old all the time. If you're a contending team, I believe you should be looking for opportunities to add players like Dawkins not move them. If you've got them as depth, I'd still hold out for something more immediately helpful.

The likelihood that the 38th pick is a well above replacement level performer at any position is less than Dawkins showing his age in 2007.

Different strokes.

I posted who my DB's currently are in the original post.

This is what is making the decision hard for me. I love Dawkins and he is very consitent year in and year out. I want to get good vlaue for the guy regardless of what my depth is like if I trade him though. I am not completly sold that a 4th this year and 2nd next is the right value for the guy.

To make things even more difficult, the guys I would be trading him too is in my division.

I understand that you have alot of depth, but you are getting no real value in return, and sending a DB1 to a division rival. I would sit on your depth and hope for a better offer to come around.

Here is the new deal....

B. Dawkins

M. Schaub

for

3.5 pick

2008 2nd

2008 3rd

Y. Bell

B. Croyle

You know my DB depth per the previous post. I have C. Palmer & C. Pennington at QB.

ummm you do know that Schaub just got a starting Gig in Houston right?i own croyle in a league and would jump a chance to give up that side for dawkins and schaub

I know Schaub went to Houston. I still think this deal is alright though considering all the draft picks I am getting in return. B. Croyle has some upside as well. Will compete for job this year in KC, and should be the starter by 08. Get Y. Bell back in this deal as well, so I get back a solid DB for depth.

we agree to disagree then...quantity over quality is how i see that deal...you would be very lucky to draft a STARTING QB and a player that will be as effective as Dawkins will be...and I also dont know that Bell stays a starter in MIA...but good luck if you do it.
