Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan called the idea "completely insane," and Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said what he would ask for in a trade for Johnson is more than any team would possibly give up."We're in the process of trying to acquire good players, not let good players leave," Schwartz said. "I think that if we've learned anything from history, it's to value talent and not to discard it."
I think the whole point to drafting NFL players is to get players that are of the quality of CJ. You don't get rid of these types when you get them. The draft is a total crapshoot. For every CJ, there are about 20 Charles Rogers and Mike Williams. There's absolutely no gurantee that Suh won't be a bust or any other picks they may receive.Foster & Valenti are just shooting for a quick fix to our situation. It's not going to happen. Last year's draft produced 6 quality players. It will take another couple of offseason to fix this which places Calvin in the prime of his career. That's when the magic hopefully happens.Live in the D here and listen to these clowns everyday on my way home.Talking head conjecture here nothing else. They have a decent point that If you want to get Suh or even better on D, maybe moving Calvin would be best. But the flip side would be you have no offensive weapons at all.
Sports talk radio is not "media"Another point to why the media sux at times!
Schwartz said Johnson was “virtually untouchable” and the Lions would demand in a trade “more than anybody would reasonably give up.”
That's what I would want to hear out of my franchise in this situation. Not "well we will see what gets offered to us, but anyone is available for the right price"(cutler, braylon, ect)And this one speaks volumes just how much Stafford knows where his bread is buttered. CJ is going to be where the ball is going for the near future.....and if it doesn't go to him, it is because Stafford wasn't able to get it there. Would love to have both these guys locked up in a dyno.“He’s one of the best players at his position in the National Football League,” Schwartz said. “He’s done nothing to disappoint us. There would be no reason to make a move like that.”
“He’s a mismatch for anybody,” Stafford said. “There’s not a corner in the league that’s his size, his speed and his hands. There’s just not.”
and absolutely trash any value that Johnson had in the process. Sounds like business as usual for both franchises. But wait... they could get ALL of Russell, McFadden AND DHB for him. That's like THREE high picks for ONE. How could they pass up such a deal!
