Trade Calvin Johnson? (1 Viewer)

I heard this on ESPN. Can anyone in Detroit provide any insight as to the possible details or where it came from? I realize that it's probably off the wall, but what has happened that this idea came up? Homers please help. Turn on your radio.

Let's nip this in the bud

Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan called the idea "completely insane," and Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said what he would ask for in a trade for Johnson is more than any team would possibly give up."We're in the process of trying to acquire good players, not let good players leave," Schwartz said. "I think that if we've learned anything from history, it's to value talent and not to discard it."

Its just one Host during the afternoon drive that wants to trade him for multiple picks to draft a defense and the sheep follow.

That's all it is. Talk. Local gab jockeys Mike Valenti and Terry Foster have been chirping about it and trying to justify it. I just laugh. If this town was peeved at the way the Lion's have been handled, try trading our only all pro away and see the ticket response to that. :lmao:

OK Nothing to see here then. I thought it was little insane. Most teams wouldn't give up the draft picks it would take to get him. It would be a great way to rebuild them fast.

Live in the D here and listen to these clowns everyday on my way home.

Talking head conjecture here nothing else.

They have a decent point that If you want to get Suh or even better on D, maybe moving Calvin would be best. But the flip side would be you have no offensive weapons at all.

Suh happened, dude on the radio has a huge hard on for him.

I think it's crazy to deal Calvin to move up a spot or two to draft *anyone*. If Calvin was in this years draft, where do you think he would go? The only way you trade Calvin is if you get a Herschel Walker type deal.

I think the whole point to drafting NFL players is to get players that are of the quality of CJ. You don't get rid of these types when you get them. The draft is a total crapshoot. For every CJ, there are about 20 Charles Rogers and Mike Williams. There's absolutely no gurantee that Suh won't be a bust or any other picks they may receive.Foster & Valenti are just shooting for a quick fix to our situation. It's not going to happen. Last year's draft produced 6 quality players. It will take another couple of offseason to fix this which places Calvin in the prime of his career. That's when the magic hopefully happens.

I'll tip my hat to the Lions here as well, who take a beating in the media for their terrible decisions in the past. One of the first times in a while where a trade rumor has been created by the media and the franchise gives you the straight up answer, without trying to make you read between the lines.

Schwartz said Johnson was “virtually untouchable” and the Lions would demand in a trade “more than anybody would reasonably give up.”
“He’s one of the best players at his position in the National Football League,” Schwartz said. “He’s done nothing to disappoint us. There would be no reason to make a move like that.”
That's what I would want to hear out of my franchise in this situation. Not "well we will see what gets offered to us, but anyone is available for the right price"(cutler, braylon, ect)And this one speaks volumes just how much Stafford knows where his bread is buttered. CJ is going to be where the ball is going for the near future.....and if it doesn't go to him, it is because Stafford wasn't able to get it there. Would love to have both these guys locked up in a dyno.
“He’s a mismatch for anybody,” Stafford said. “There’s not a corner in the league that’s his size, his speed and his hands. There’s just not.”

Litened to Coach Shwartz yesterday on Sirius NFL radio and he talked of the process of identifying young talented players and that the Lions would always have thier ear to the ground to identify those young and talented players. He was upbeat about what they had done over this year and hoped to continue building a talented base. I think that if someone blew them away with an offer, it would be considered, but that the Lions looking to trade Calvin will not happen.

I believe that PK asked him about calling a time out to get their attention during the game last week. He said that he had frequently felt the need to use a time out as a defensive coordinator, but had never had the authority. He said that the Lions had been competitive in every game, but he felt like the defense was not being competitve so he called a time out to get their attention. He also said not sure how well it worked because they gave up a TD two plays later, but he still felt that was important. His interviews are always quite good, but maybe it is the interaction with PK that makes it so good.

If you know Mary Schottenheimer were conducting the you know interview, we might you know not get nearly as much you know information.

But wait... they could get ALL of Russell, McFadden AND DHB for him. That's like THREE high picks for ONE. How could they pass up such a deal!

The Lions will fold before they trade Megatron. His value is astronomical but that further dooms him being traded. If you looked at him and said he played WR in NFL anybody could see he is the best physical specimen of a WR they will ever see. Any team would take him and a few teams could easily trade three first rounders for him. My favorite player in college and my favorite pro player. If the Lions ever get a capable offensive line, Megatron will be the mover of this offense. Whether it is getting double coverage or making plays THIS GUY WILL DO IT!

And I am sure there are Lions fans who would trade him but they are trying to look long term--but not long term enough. If they'd ever trade him, it would speed up their rebuilding process but I'd rather have a longer rebuild and great talent than a quick rebuild and mediocrity.

and absolutely trash any value that Johnson had in the process. Sounds like business as usual for both franchises.
