Trade Newton for 1.02?? (1 Viewer)

I'm in a 14 team dynasty looking to acquire the 2nd pick. He has interest in Newton, should I trade Newton for 1.02 straight up? I have Alex Smith as my backup, but would probably draft a rookie or free agent for his backup.

Should i I do it?

Without knowing your league settings and what the rest of your roster looks like, I'd say yes.

Many moons ago I drafted Aaron Rodgers 1.05 in a startup 12 team, start 1 QB dynasty league figuring that I'd be set at the position for years to come. I learned the error of my ways a few seasons in and traded him for the 1.01 and 2.01 in our rookie draft. I then flipped those rookie picks for established players and won back to back championships with a combination of Kaep and Tanny at the position.

More info than I'm sure you wanted, but that's the story of how I learned the value of QBs in start 1 leagues. I'd trade just about any QB for a top rookie pick, especially in a draft such as this one with a lot of talented players. Use the pick or flip it for another player that you're interested in.

It's a big drop from Newton to Smith, but it's generally pretty easy to trade for QBs in a start 1 QB league.  And I think Newton's days of being a fantasy superstar are over since I don't think he's a great passer and I expect CAR will want him to run the ball less so that he stays upright for 16 games.

Take the deal.

Agree with everyone, If someone is willing to give you the 1.02 for Cam, hit accept as fast as you can.

In a 14 team league the value of QB's goes up slightly but without knowing scoring and starting requirements it is difficult to evaluate properly.  Also, I don't have any idea how your league values QB's.  The fact this guy is willing to offer this high of a pick for Newton tells me that QB's are not undervalued on the trade market as much as some leagues so picking up a replacement might not come as easy as some above have alluded to.

Smith is a huge drop for a potential top 5 QB.  In a vacuum I would lean towards taking the pick but there are a lot of factors that could sway me to the Newton side.
