Trade One of my Stud Pitchers? (1 Viewer)

Hey guys, thanks for the prior help. After an initial start where my hitters were hitting and my pitchers mysteriously went AWOL, things have reversed (as I pretty much expected). My league has 12 teams and I'm hovering in the middle of the standings (8x8). Biggest areas of need are HR and Runs, with SB being a bit of a concern as well.

Anyhow, pitchers are limited to 1250 innings total and barring injuries I'm on pace to totally shatter this.

I have Lincecum, Jered Weaver, Sabathia, Hamels and Oswalt. These guys routinely go 7 innings or more and I think that I'll run out of innings with probably a month or more to spare if things stay as is.

With that in mind I'm pondering trading Oswalt, or perhaps CC or Hamels in an effort to get some HR.

Jeter is on the block. Should I try trading Oswalt or Hamels for him and would that be enough to land him? He certainly would be an upgrade over Escobar or Felipe Lopez.

What kind of power hitters do you consider to be roughly worth Oswalt, Hamels, or CC?'

FWIW, my position players are:

Sandoval, Votto (DL), Branyan, Cantu, A Hill, F Lopez, Escobar, Holliday, Abreu, Wells, Reimold, Ludwick

My relievers who I don't want to mess with (holds count) are: K-Rod, Marino, K Wood, Feliciano, and Wuertz

Thanks for any all input!

I for one wouldn't consider trading any of those pitchers for Jeter.

CC>Hamels>Oswalt.

Tough spot.......throw their names around and see what kind of offers you get.

I would look at who needs pitching, and pitch an offer to them(seems obvious, but I've had a couple)

You never know what you'll get in return until you ask.

I'd throw Hamles name out there before anyone.

CC and Oswalt have proven track records as second half studs. Hamels has a track record of being hurt and an extra workload of post season ball from a year ago.

Next on my list to move would be Jered Weaver. Not saying he isn't going to continue this, but I'd say his value is it's peak right now and out of all the arms you have, he's the most likely to regress and that regression might have just started tonight.

Not sure Jeter would be the guy that I'd be targeting, but he should at least be a reliable source of runs.

The only one of those five I wouldn't deal is Lince K. All of the others have their price, I suspect you won't get enough for Oswalt and he usually pitches better in the 2nd half so I'd leave myself open to moving any of the other three. I'd place their values as follows

CC - top 50 bat

Hamels - top 75 bat

Weaver - top 100 bat

Obviously if multiple players end up being involved that fudges things, but this is a start. Target the teams with bad pitching and especially the teams with bad pitching and good hitting.

not for jeter
I'd consider Weaver for Jeter.
If he's looking for runs, there might not be a better available source at SS.Hitting 1-2 in that wiffle ball park is going to result in a lot of runs scoredAs of now, he's tied for 2nd in R (40) for SS and 4th in HRs (9) and I really don't see him falling off that pace as the season goes on.Thinking about this more, I'd actually move Hamels for him.

If I didn't have any better offers given his current situation I'd do that too, but would put that as a last resort. Sometimes you have to be on the worse side of the transaction to improve your team.

Thanks so far guys. While I listed my team, I'll now put my typical starting lineup which may crystalize things a bit.

C-Sandoval (my own Catcher eligible guy - also eligible at 1B,3B)

1B-Branyan (this would be Votto if he works out his issues - also eligible at 3B)

2B-A Hill (luckiest thing to happen for me - picked him up off waivers early in the year)

SS-Y Escobar (I consider him my weakest starter - it's part of why Jeter might interest me).

3B-Cantu (if Votto's back I'd probably put Branyan ahead of him at this point - also eligible at 1B)

OF-Holiday (finally has come around a bit - can also hope for a trade to a better ball park)

OF-Abreu (about my only steady source of SBs and has a good average)

OF-Ludwick (outside of Branyan he's got the best HR rate of my guys)

UTIL-Wells (obviously a big disappointment - does a lot of things mediocrely - amazingly does lead my team in RS however)

Bench-Reimold (sometimes will pop him in there based on matchup - picked him up recently)

Bench-F Lopez (started fast but he's a big ball of mediocre, hits for average and does nothing else, he's eligible at 2B,3B,SS,OF which is pretty much the only reason I've kept him)

By the looks of things, it would appear that SS and OF are the two places where I at least have a chance to show improvement.

There's one guy in my league who has been the big wheeler-dealer. He says he covets Hamels and while his team is a bit talent shy overall I'm wondering if you guy think either of these trades might be worthwhile:

1) Hamels straight up for Justin Upton.

2) Hamels and say Wells (who I won't need) for Upton and Posada (basically so I can catch up on games at that position - I'm on pace to finish 6 short).

3) Hamels and say Wells for Upton and Ianetta if asking for Posada seems to unrealistic.

4) Same 2 as above but slot in Abreu instead of Wells.

The Jeter scenarios I could envision with his owner would be something like:

5) Hamels and Escobar for Jeter and DeRosa (elgible at 2B,3B,OF)

On a total side note, Luke Scott has popped up as available. Should I jettison Reimold for his Baltimore teammate?

Thanks for all the advice so far!

If you're looking for a SS that can hits some homeruns then try to get Peralta on the cheap and hope to jebus he starts to hit soon.

UPDATE.

Well to give you an idea of the dire innings situation with my pitchers, I'm already over 1/2-way to running out of innings for the year. I estimate that if my pitchers keep up their current pace that I'll tap out with about 20 games to go. Something has to give and I really think I should be going with a 4-man rotation the rest of the year.

I've just been offered the following trade and I think it might just be worth it as it will solve a number of problems with my team IMO. But I want to know what you guys think.

I would get: Scutaro and Papelbon (he also included Jake Fox actually, though I'm not sure I want him)

He would get: Hamels and Ludwick

My new-look roster would be projected starter first with eligible backups listed after in parentheses.

C- Sandoval

1B-Votto (Branyan or Cantu)

2B-A Hill (Scutaro or F Lopez)

SS-Scutaro (Escobar or F Lopez)

3B-Branyan (Cantu or Scutaro or F Lopez)

OF-Holliday, Abreu, and Reimold (Wells or F Lopez)

UTIL-Cantu (everybody else)

SP - Lincecum, Jered Weaver, Sabathia, Oswalt

RP - KRod, Mariano, Papelbon, K Wood, Feliciano (for Holds)

One thing that is clear from this: Felipe Lopez will basically become expendable if I get Scutaro as the only reason I've kept Lopez on is for his versatility.

My question is, do you think it's possible I could do better than Fox if I throw in Felipe Lopez into the trade?

Here's his roster, before any trade of Hamels and Ludwick on my part:

C- Posada and Ianetta

1B-Helton and Delgado (DL)

1B/3B - Garrett Atkins

2B - Uggla

2B/SS/3B - Scutaro

SS - Rollins

3B - Encarcion (DL)

OF - Justin Upton, Werth, Fox, Chris Young

SPs - Smoltz, Carpenter, Nolasco, Floyd, Harden

RPs - Papelbon, Qualls, Valverde, Fraser, Bailey

What do you guys think? I really think this might be a good deal for me. Improves my SS situation (especially with Escobar's hip) and puts me in a monstrous position to catch up with the saves leader.

Thx!
