Trade players from the dominating teams or ride it out? (1 Viewer)

Our trade deadline is next week and playoffs start week 14. Recalling the Patriots 16-0 season they started to slow down/rest players week 15. Do you look to trade players from teams (Saints, Indy and Minn) that may wrap up a seed early?? In our league the team with Brady in 2007 lost in the first round - week 15 -after dominating regular season (13-1). I'm thinking about trading P Thomas and R Moss at this point.

I would say so if your team is one of the top teams in the league, and you really think you have a good shot at the playoffs.

I think that is not the best strategy. You are over thinking it. Unless your Super Bowl is week 17 you have nothing to worry about. NFL teams are starting to realize that if you sit your studs too much (week 15, 16, 17,) then you take them out of their rhythm and they get rusty for the playoffs. Don't get rid of the guys that got you to where you are. You still need to win week 14 and 15 to get to week 16 right?

At this point, it is very difficult to tell who would be in that position. A number of teams are in command of their divisions, but there appear to be dogfights in both the AFC and NFC for the #1 seed in the playoffs, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. If I rate two players equally aside from that, I might consider a deal, but clinching early doesn't appear to be as big a possibility as it might have been for a few other teams in previous years.

I'm first in my division at 6-2 with a big lead in total points (1st tiebreaker). So barring major injuries I'm confident in making playoffs. Playoffs start Week 14 and end week 16. We a variable payout - every playoffs team gets $ based on seed then you get $ for each playoff game won.

The only way I'd trade those players would be if a very fair trade offer came my way. Even then, I'd be hesitant to do it, unless the deal offered blew me away. I make it a priority to have a solid bench behind all of my stud weekly starters so I don't have to worry if Manning, Wayne and others are not available to me in week 17.

I had Brady the year he had 50 td's and i'm probably the only person that had him and didn't win a title. last year I lost in the superbowl. I hardly ever make trades and I dont think that had anything to do with the losses. Just bad weeks and bad matchups. Trying to trade for better matchups isn't something i'd do if my current players are taking me where I need to be.

I'm not sure you can use Brady as a good barometer. He just had a bad day that day.

Plus, he was back to his old self the next 2 weeks, chasing records and undefeated seasons had something to do with that.

(WK14-rd1): 47 (f'n bonkers)

(WK15-rd2): 9.5 (dud)

(WK16-rd3): 27.3 (good, solid game)

(WK17): 34.6 (bonkers)

Players from dominant teams have never hurt me. I'd stay put.

I think the AFC is going to be a wide open race for the top two seeds. Indy's D took a big hit this week so I would think they are due to lose a few games and get back to the pack. The Saints are the only team I might be concerned about but the reality is they are not good enough to go undefeated. Take a look at their average margin of victory compared to the '07 Pats, it is not even close. Bottom line is that even if they do clinch a top seed early you are two probably only talking about the semi-finals and finals as games that could trip you up. You have to get their first so I would want to field the strongest team possible now and don't overthink playoff matchups.
