Trading Deadlines approach (1 Viewer)

Thinking NYG go back to basics and power football in the NY winter weather from here on forward and wondering if anyone out there thinks that by some miracle Jacobs will turn back into the back he was last year and previous to that. A 10 week sampling is usually enough for me to think at that point, "you are what you are for this season," but something tells me there may be an opportunity here.

Anyone with thoughts on how he does the rest of the way?

He has just over 600 yds to date and should clear 1,000 but his TDs are way down right now with only 2 so far. How do you think he compares to guys like Barber, Grant, P. Thomas and Lynch who are all available in our league now?

I picked him up in a trade deadline move. He is heathy and was running it quite well last game. Over 6 ypc, IIRC, only problem is Coughlin/Gilbride only gave him 11 carries.

As the weather gets colder, the defense gets healthier (everyone not on IR practiced yesterday but Bradshaw... even Ross and Canty!), and with a bye week for the Giants coaches to stand back and remember what they do well, I think/hope that Jacobs will get a shot to get things going.

Edit to add: That's a lot of talent sitting on your wire.

Jacobs will be used differently the rest of the season according to the running backs coach. With Danny Ware now healthy, he will become more of the third down back, and take on a role similar to what Derrick Ward had last year - allowing Jacobs to return to the power role he has always previously had.

Essentially what that should mean is more east-west stuff for Ware (the kind of plays where Brandon tends to run tentatively, tip-toeing up to the line...or as Jacobs says, requires more patience to allow the blocks to set up). Meanwhile, the big fella should be able to focus primarily on north-south downhill running.

There has been speculation throughout the year that Brandon doesn't run as hard as in the past because he got his big bucks, no longer playing for a contract. There was a pretty good article in the Newark Star-Ledger yesterday which explains that its more the type of plays the G-men have had Jacobs running, primarily because of the injury to Ware on the first play of the season (IIRC he just got his first touches in Week 9, before the bye).

Not sure where that leaves Bradshaw, but Couglin said before the bye he was happy with the rotation, so I would say if the cracked bone doesn't displace (and there is no reason to suspect it will - its more of a pain management issue), Ahmad will also continue to be in the mix.

Here is the article I referenced

ETA: reworded for clarity
