Travel Ideas (1 Viewer)

I have an $800 voucher from Delta. I have a year to use it, so no rush. Looking for ideas for cheap travel (I know, its soo un FBG). Im talking about cities that may have cheap entertainment, food and lodging. Probably just be the wife and I. No, I dont plan to go to Idaho, Montana, etc, no matter how good of a deal it is. We've been to Vegas, but its probably the cheapest overall option.

Are you adventurous?

Fly into Fort Myers, drive to Pine Island and catch the hour-long ferry ride ($35 RT) to Cayo Costa State Park. This 2400-acre barrier island is the Sunshine State as it used to be. No highways, just mangrove swamps, packed-shell bike trails, and 7.5 miles of dune-studded beach. Drop your gear in one of the 12 cabins ($30/nt). Bring a spinner, live shrimp, and a 12lb line. Wade into the surf, and go get dinner: redfish, snook, or speckled sea trout are all excellent.

Doesnt get much cheaper (or more relaxing) than this.

If you aren't in any hurry, how about a trip in Feb to get away from the winter next year...San Diego, Phoenix, Savannah, New Orleans, Port Aransas, Ft Myers.

Denver, CO cannabis tour.
..... or one of the mountain towns (breck, vail, keystone, copper, beaver creek) in the summer. usually very good hotel deals. restaurants offer 2-for-1 or affordable prix fixe menus. a lot of activities. very scenic. about an hour or two from denver.

You know of any place that rents small cabins? I mean these are small, but six single beds? Have you done this for multiple nights? It seems like I would have carry a lot of stuff for a 5-6 night stay.

I havent actually done this yet, but its on my list. Ive done something similar in North Carolina and the ferry service would bring you stuff (food/ice/beer/bait) each day if you called ahead. You do need to travel light and plan ahead though.

It looks like the ferry service has cottages on the mainland for $90/nt if that's more your speed. http://tropicstaradventures.com/cottages.htm
