Travis Beckum TE, NYG (1 Viewer)

I see him eventually getting more playing time then Kevin Boss who is really just an Endzone target, not a move the chains guy.

Beckum has immense catching ability and Eli has shown in the past he loves the checkdown to the TE

I see him potentially ending 2009 as a top 10 TE

I'm stoked about the Beckum pick and like his skillset but I'd be shocked if he burst onto the scene like that in 2009 especially considering his lack of blocking prowess.Furthermore, Boss is more then just an endzone target. In 2009 look for him to be a solid special team contributor and occasional pass catcher and ending 2009 as the second ranked pass catcher amongst TEs... on his team.

With Boss there, nothing will be handed to Beckum. But the guy has talent and has shown a knack for making plays. People like to rag on his blocking, but let's not forget that Wisconsin is a run first team. He wouldn't have been on the field if he couldn't block at all. Add a little weight/strength, and he'll be fine in that regard. He doesn't need to be a beast in that respect, just adequate.

I would temper expectations out of the gate, especially coming off a leg injury. However, the guy will create matchup problems and there is opportunity there.

I read that Giants are thinking of using him as an H-back
When you think about how poor Hedgecock is at anything but blocking, I could see this as an interesting twist. You could run with Beckum or playaction and dump to him in the flat.Top 10 TE is REALLY pushing it though. I don't see much fantasy value in Beckum

:goodposting: If he gets healthy and stays that way...he could be very very good. The guy is very athletic and can just downright catch the ball.

If thats true he loses all fantasy value IMO, but the Gmen wont be silly and will keep him as a TE i think.people were knocking many other college TE's when they were drafted with the "he cant block" thing, and i remember jason Witten was called that as well.PS was Mike Alstott the ONLY Full Back to ever be fantasy relevant?

Why would it be silly to get people they see as potential playmakers on the field? :lmao: Furthermore, it has been the Giants MO under this regime to use versitile players somewhat creatively (although not to the extent Bellichek does and admittedly more on defense) to get their best players on the field. Being used as an H-back doesn't mean he won't ever line up at TE but being the likely 2nd/3rd TE on the roster, putting in time at H-back will get him on the field more then a regimented TE position.

Why? I remember Frank Wycheck being a productive fantasy TE who lined up at H-back.

I hate calling Alstott a FB though...that guy was an RB who lined up at FB every now and then (and got the pro bowl votes because of it). :lmao:

Beckum has some serious skills but he'll need that rookie season to get healthy, get his body into NFL form, and learn the pro game. Year 2 is when we'll see an "ElitoBeckum" log-in name here. :blackdot:

But he's just so ####### good at it. :hifive:
He is good at it, but you could have a lineman back there as well with the same or better impact. I am fine with him, but not being any threat outside of blocking is limiting.
