Trend? Jerricho Cotchery, target decrease (1 Viewer)

Week 2 - 7

Week 3 - 6

Week 4 - 4

One thing to note is that apart from the week 3 game versus BUF he's made the most of his targets catching a good percentage of them.

Meanwhile Coles has 10, 13, 13, 12.

Obviously Coles is the #1 guy and is expected to be more heavily targeted. But, more specifically for Cotchery who was either a late-round flyer or WW wonder who many teams are plugging into WR2 or WR3 spots, does this appear to be a trend, albeit with a limited sample size?

Are teams gameplanning more for Cotchery now, or is it just the game situations the Jets are in?

On paper the matchup versus the Jags looks tough this weekend, and if he's already losing targets owners may want to consider benching him for a more viable option.

Jets were able to run last week.
..but Coles' targets didn't go down.
That sounds about right. I don't have a statistical analysis to identify it as a verifiable trend or anything, but it inherently makes sense to me to think that any reallocation of plays from the passing game to the running game would likely have a much greater impact on targets for the #2 option in your passing game. When you pass less, a greater % of those passes seems likely to be intended for your #1 option.

Coles is the #1 option no doubt, as he's always been Chad's security blanket. But I wouldn't view Cotchery's target decrease as a worrisome sign. In fact, I think they'll go up as Chad continues to develop more chemistry with him, while defenses pay more attention to Coles.

The other thing to consider is Cotchery, and not Coles, is on the field when the team is the red zone. If you've seen Cotchery play, he's very, very physical and a great red zone target.

I sold high on Cotchery a few days ago. He had no chance of ever cracking my starting lineup, so I packaged him for some upgrades.

I think he is a WR4/spot starter fantasy-wise. A solid option with a good matchup, but I had 3 other guys who are all that level.

So what did you get and what did you part with?

I gave up Cotchery, Cadillac, & Pennington for Maroney, Plaxico, & LJ Smith. It's a non-TE league, so I see LJ Smith vs Cotchery as a wash. The other guy saw Cotchery as his new WR3. I feel I benefitted pretty well. I made out well at the other spots.
