First off, I admit my FF fix outweighs the amount of time I spend weekly on watching the games. Don't get me wrong, I would watch as much football as they are serving with the right economic means, but I do not own the ticket, and often miss the Sunday morning games. However I will catch the night games like religion! So the games I catch generally have the most eyes on it. I also listen to the Sirius talking heads daily like other people listen to Limgaugh.
Since I am seeing more penalties called for tackles that used to be part of game, I am wondering if this trend part of a direction for the league? The fix of broadcasting revenues could lead to football as more of a contact sport and less of a collision sport. The net effect could be a type of football that is as unrecognizable as the 60s versions are with the younger fans today. You remember? When you didn't have to be a lawyer to figure out a fumble?
If you didn't get up with the ball you didn't have possession. Period. The definition of possession changed over time. Previously a play didn't end until the whistle, meaning you had to maintain possession through the end of the tackle. Is the league moving towards more of a contact sport and less of a collision sport?
