trent green - 2nd team (1 Viewer)

At camp today, Cleo Lemon ran w/ first team, Green w/ 2nd team, and Beck @ 3rd team. No link, first hand account. None of the QB's impressed, but Beck looked the best out of the three.

Also - Ronnie Brown got alot of GL carries and saw alot of action in the passing game. Corey Schlessinger will help him out too, and he will get a few carries a game.

Ginn dropped a couple, and was running w/ 2nd team.

Defensively, no one really stood out - DB's played pretty decent. Taylor worked some on coverage.

ETA: Green named starter, but his starting role is far from secure, IMO.

How about Lorenzo Booker?
didn't make much of an impression on me either way. Ran w/ 2nd team. Coaches didn't have any special plays for him. On goal line, he had one nice run, bouncing it outside.edit: I take this back - that was Chatman with the nice bounce-outside.

Has anyone else been to Fish Camp? Has Lemon been a 1st teamer all along or was this a one-day thing? I think most people have assumed Green would get the job. Is Lemon for real? (understanding that "for real" can mean different things to different people... in this instance it means: Does he have a realistic shot at starting week 1)

My post from the Trent Green spotlight thread:At Dolphins camp, Cleo Lemon was running w/ first team. From rotoworld
No one listened when Dolphins coach Cam Cameron told the media that there was a true competition for the Miami starting quarterback job. Perhaps it's because no one can stay awake during his vanilla press conferences or perhaps we assumed that Trent Green vs. Cleo Lemon was a mismatch of Tyson/Spinks proportions. We were wrong. It's become a closer battle than anyone imagined and that does not bode well for the Miami offense. Many peg Green as a fantasy sleeper, but a Palm Beach Post reports say he's looked like, "An aging veteran and a first-year quarterback learning a new system." Most telling is that Cameron has privately told veterans not to assume Green will be their leader come Week 1.We shouldn't so surprised. Green is a 37-year old on a new team coming off a devastating concussion. One mistake fantasy leaguers often make, myself included, is assuming that a player will return good as new after injury. We see their old stats, and hope for the best.Trent Green was not the same player when he returned late last season. He felt the pass rush too early and his timing was off. Cleo Lemon is no world-beater, but he has more upside and is enjoying a solid camp.

Except in recent scrimmage I read Green looked good.

QB Green Sparkles Under The Lights

Harvey Fialkov & Kevin Clark, Florida Sun-Sentinel - [Full Article]

QB Trent Green sparkled in the evening session under the lights on Friday, drilling two straight passes in traffic to WR Chris Chambers. He then hit wide-open RB Ronnie Brown in the flat for an easy TD. Green finished off the evening with a 20-yard strike down the middle to WR Marty Booker for a TD.

Staying away from all Phins this year. Chambers burnt me badly last year and I won't draft him before the 9th rd this year.

Only guy I may touch is Booker.

I have followed the fins all camp. Here is a copy of the blog from saturday's practice- a common error most people make is to extrapolate data from a very small sample. Based upon reading all of the blogs, here is my assement of some key players:

QB- There won't be a qb controversy at the start of the season, Green will start, Lemon will back up. Beck has looked fantastic at time and has forced some throws at other. DONT SLEEP on Beck.

RB- Ronnie has shaken the rust of and is looking solid. Booker has been lightning quick and will be what they drafted him to be. A change of pace 3rd down back- with homerun speed, he has also been working on the punt return team. Jesse Chatman will be browns backup and if Brown gets injured could surprise.

WR-Not alot to report here except that Ginn has looked very surehanded and fast all camp. Hagan has been progressing nicely. Hagan could supplant Booker as the wr2 I expect Booker to not be a dolphin next season with the develpoment of Hagan and Ginn.

Def- Rodrigue Wright is looking good and could surprise. Yeraniah Bell is the best defender in the secondary. I wouldn't be surprised if he is a probowler this season.

Good afternoon from Dolphins camp. It’s another scorcher … 98 degrees on the heat index.

The Dolphins begin Week 2 of training camp in full pads during Saturday’s only session and a day off ahead on Sunday.

The stage is set for a hard-hitting practice. But last night was pretty physical and Cam Cameron has been careful to give guys rest.

Either way, LB Joey Porter, SS Yeremiah Bell and TE David Martin won’t be involved. Each player is in shorts.

It’s the second practice Porter has missed; will have to get the scoop after practice from Cameron. Bell said earlier he landed hard on his left hip Friday night, but is OK.

He hopes to be back Monday.

We’ll also update Martin later.

Let’s get started …

Bell has joined G Joe Toledo (foot) and CB Andre Goodman (shoulder) on the bike. Back-up T Mike Rosenthal makes his first appearance on the cycles.

The long-awaited two-deep on D-line.

1st team: E Jason Taylor, T Vonnie Holliday, T Keith Traylor, E Matt Roth 2nd team: E Akbar Gbaja-Biamila, T Rodrique Wright, T Paul Soliai, E Chase Page.

T Kevin Vickerson, an NFL Europa refugee, is the best of the third unit.

The O-lines haven’t changed since Day 1.

1st team: LT Vernon Carey, LG Chris Liwienski, C Samson Satele, RG Drew Mormino, RT Anthony Alabi 2nd team: LT Julius Wilson, LG Tala Esera, C Johnathan Ingram, RG Reg Hadnot, RT L.J. Shelton

LBs and DBs are working on pass drops. Looks like three-quarter speed.

DB Jason Allen just gives up a sideline catch to David Sutton. It looked like Allen was there, just stopped on the play. He’s having a tough camp.

During a red-zone offensive drill, rookie Ted Ginn Jr. beats back-up CB Michael Lehan on a fade route and drops a perect throw by Trent Green.

Ginn hangs his head for a moment, but Green pats him on the shoulder. It’s one of the few drops Ginn has had during camp. Can’t remember one, honestly.

Coaches have cut down the time of drills. The red-zone drill couldn’t have been 10 plays.

Team heads to the other field for special teams. Will let you know if anything happens, not expecting much.

Like I expected, not much to say. The team is using a pitching machine to bomb punts 80 yards … perfect spirals. Pretty cool to watch that, at least.

Goal line offense walk-through.

Good news, though, 9-on-9 situational (3rd-4, 3rd-6, 3rd-8) is about to begin. Plus, practice with end with a goal-line scrimmage, should be some hitting.

Play by play to come …

On second thought, might be a bit ambitious the way the team is changing distances and switching QBs. Will give some highlights.

S Renaldo Hill makes the hit of the day. Unfortunately he made it on Lehan. WR Chris Chambers escapes harm.

Cleo Lemon finds Ronnie Brown for a nice pass in the middle. Brown seems to find the soft spots in the defense well and has sure hands.

CB Travis Daniels picks off a Lemon “duck” on the final play, making up for a drop on the first play of the drill. Lemon looks shaky in this drill.

Rookie WR Michael Malone and Green hook up on a nice crossing route. Green also connects with rookie Kerry Reed across the middle.

Green has nice touch and accuracy on crossing routes - a staple of Cameron’s scheme.

Time for team 11-on-11, move the chains drill …

Brown continues to excel in the short passing game.

Rookie Lorenzo Booker is a jet out of the backfield. He might touch the ball only 3-5 times, but should had pick up some key first downs and bust one here or there this season.

John Beck makes a perfect throw downfield between the CB and S on the sidelines, but rookie David Sutton drops it. Sutton, who had six catches in two seasons at UTEP, has been a big surprise. But a play like that makes a spot on the practice squad more likely for him.

Lemon makes his best play of the day, finding Chambers deep between Allen and S Cameron Worrell. Nice diving catch by Chambers.

Final drill of the day, and it’s a good one: goal-line scrimmage. 1st team D vs. 2nd team O from the 4. 1st play: Back-up Jesse Chatman, bounced it outside for a TD untouched. 2nd play: Green rolls right, throws back left in the face of pass rush, TE Tim Massaquoi makes a nice grab with CB Will Allen all over him. 3rd play: Stuffed by Thomas and Matt Roth. L. Booker with the ball? Huh. 4th play: Thomas and Keith Traylor stone the 195-pound Booker. Don’t think he’ll get it much in these situations.

Up next 1st team O vs. 2nd team D 1st play: Brown around left end for a TD untouched. 2nd play: Brown around right end, Lehan fails to support the run. 3rd play: Brown again. TD. 4th play: Brown hits the hole quickly and scores. Brown looks quicker today than he’s looked all camp.

Up next 3rd team O vs. 3rd team D, switching up play to play on the offensive line 1st play: Once again, L. Booker stuffed. Guess coaches want to see if Booker can run inside the tackles if they need him. 2nd play: Chatman nice cut, untouched off left side, showing why he’s sure to be Brown’s back-up. 3rd play: Motion penalty 4th play: Beck tries to fire it through a crowd to Halterman. CB Geoff Pope drops sure INT.

Not a great way to end the day. Maybe coaches want to give players something to ponder on their day off.

A few quick observations:

Brown had his best practice to date.

The QBs were a little hot and cold, but Green looked the sharpest.

Daniels looks good. He’s around the ball a lot and might end up more than a fill-in for Goodman.

Gotta run, Cameron is heading to the media room.

Have a good weekend.

What's the opinion of Beck in Miami? Somebody mentioned that he was a bit of a head case in college (in another thread) but I never got any explanation as to why. I like everything I've heard about him, and if Cameron can make the offensive work I like his potential (probably not this year but down the road). Just wondering if anyone has insights on the kid that don't show up in the post-draft fluff pieces praising the rookies.

IMO he will be the starter next season. All of the articles that I have read says that the guy has alot of toughness and ability. Every knock on him has been rebutted. For exampled, people say he doesn't have a strong arm. I have seen him on youtube throwing a 70 yard pass. Beck has been compared to Brees by Cam and Bulger by Mueller.

Overall, that's a pretty good write-up, but Ginn had more than one drop for sure. Also - Green was with 2nd team and Lemon w/ first team almost exclusively. If I had to pick who was the sharpest, I'd say Beck.I only go to one practice a year, so take my views w/ a grain of salt, but I think it significant that Yesterday, Lemon got more reps w/ Brown, Chambers, Booker, and the O line.

Lemon is good. I've been saying that since his Charger days and wishing he'd get a chance. However, he's no star and that's a star position. Green should be able to beat him out.

Lemon with a boatload of confidence and a very well laid out offense, maybe he could be a star. who knows?

Green should be able to beat him out.

At some point, if Green doesn't get the 1st team reps it's a good bet he's not the starter openning day. I think some people expect Green to be used the last week of TC with the first team and suddenly get the job. I don't see that happenning and don't think that's realistic. Green's gotta "make a move" the next couple weeks IMO.

Depth chart: The team released its initial depth chart for Saturday's exhibition opener against Jacksonville. There were few surprises.

The first-string offensive line is the same combination the Dolphins have used in camp: Vernon Carey at left tackle, Liwienski at left guard, Samson Satele at center, Drew Mormino at right guard and Alabi at right tackle. Shelton is the second-team right tackle.

Trent Green and Cleo Lemon are both listed as first-team quarterbacks. Ted Ginn, Kerry Reed, Derek Hagan and David Sutton are all listed as second-team receivers, and Jesse Chatman and Patrick Cobbs are the second-team running backs.
so maybe Green doesn't have second team locked up just yet, but he clearly does not have first team locked up just yet.

from cbs.sportsline today

Analysis: While Cameron may call it an open competition, Green is going to be the Dolphins starter and Lemon the backup. Green should be considered a low-end No. 2 option, and Lemon should not be drafted at all in any Fantasy league.
i hate those guys

Beck will be starting by Week 6.
I would say week 10, but certainly at some point this year. Accordingly, I concur with the statements above that Chambers and Brown would have to fall well past their ADP for me to pick them up.(I did trade Drew Carter and some mid round picks for Chambers though)

NM - green named starter.

Dolphins name Trent Green starting quarterback

By Omar Kelly | Sun-Sentinel.com

11:41 AM EDT, August 20, 2007

DAVIE - In an attempt to speed up the installation of the team's new offense, the Dolphins named Trent Green the starting quarterback for the Sept. 9 season opener against Washington.

Coach Cam Cameron spoke to all his quarterbacks Monday and announced his decision, which ended a training camp battle between Green and Cleo Lemon, who has spent the past two seasons as the Dolphins No. 3 quarterback after previously working with Cameron in San Diego.

"We're at the point where we're putting this offense together and the one thing this offense needs is leadership. Trent brings that," said Cameron, the former Chargers offensive coordinator who is embarking on his first season as a head coach.

"Cleo's time is coming, it's getting closer and closer . . . But he's got a lot of room for growth, especially in the area of leadership."

Cameron said Lemon has performed well during training camp and the exhibition season. Playing behind Green in the team's two exhibition wins, Lemon has completed 76 percent of his passes for 108 yards, trumping Green's 45 completion percentage and 101 yards (with one interception).

But Cameron favored Green for the starting spot because of 107 starts he's compiled over the past 14 seasons. However, Cameron said he's confident about Lemon being Green's backup.

"He's never gone into the season as a backup before. He's always been a third [teamer]," Cameron said. "Cleo understands we're the first organization that's ever given him an opportunity to compete for a starting job."

Cameron's decision allows Green to work exclusively with the first-team offense throughout training camp and the rest of the exhibition season.

"The only way to get better is to start getting with your group of guys," Cameron said, referring to perfecting a quarterback and receiver's timing on routes. Rookie quarterback John Beck will backup Lemon, but Cameron acknowledged he expects all his quarterbacks to push one another, and plans to let the process play itself out.

"They all know we'll treat them all like starters," Cameron said. "Cleo's one play away. John's two plays away. Gibran [Hamdan] is three plays away. The minute they think it's further than that then they've got a problem."

Anyone have a guess to the question? No dolphins homers?
your guess is as good as anyone elses. This is a new coach with a new QB - we are in uncharted waters here. No idea how tolerant Cam will be.
Here is the trap...Miami has a pretty easy first 6 games1 Sun, Sep 9 at Washington Tickets 2 Sun, Sep 16 Dallas Tickets 3 Sun, Sep 23 at NY Jets Tickets4 Sun, Sep 30 Oakland Tickets 5 Sun, Oct 7 at Houston Tickets6 Sun, Oct 14 at Cleveland They could be 4-2 or 5-1 to start-especially with their defense. So it wont be until late in the season and the fins are out of playoff contention that we will see Beck or Lemon. Beck is clearly the future of this team. Lemon was a RFA this offseason with a second round tender. Because of his time in the league he should be an RFA again. I think that the fins will work out an extension this offseason and let Beck and Lemon fight it out for the starter spot next year.
