Trent Richardson owners: Are you starting him this week @ SF? (1 Viewer)

I'm in a bit of a pickle, as a T-Rich AND Bradshaw owner ... all of a sudden Moreno is my RB1 this week. I might not have another option. Think Irsay will roll out his new toy right away?

I'm sure he will get a handful of carries and probable goal line work. Bradshaw is still a good RB, no reason to rush Richardson into the lineup this week.

The guy probably won't arrive until Thursday. I don't see how he can even learn protections that quick. Tough to see him playing meaningful snaps this week but who knows.

Hard to say until I see some reports about his projected workload. Playing SF doesn't exactly make it easier to start him.

He is playing a pissed off SF team away. I agree he will probably get goal line carries but he is basically Michael Bush or Brandon Jacobs this week

Very unlikely that I will unless I hear IND come out saying that they plan on giving him a full work load right off the bat.

I have him in two leagues and I'm playing him in both, I might consider if I had better options but it's him or Cecil Shorts against Richard Sherman in both, which I want zero part of!

WHOM DO I START?!!!!!1!1!!!1

Bernard, Trent, or Moreno in my ultra-RB-hyper-mega flex spot in a 20-team start 10 RB 3/4 PPR league with sharks and stuff.

Will answer yours.

No.

But only because I have better options.

I'd guess Trent gets something like 4 catches, 80 yards total and maybe a TD. Decent, but don't count on a td. He also could do almost nothing ad he learns the playbook. Not worth the risk if you have good options.

Pass protection is probably the key here. They won't get luck killed.

I'm guessing about 5 carries for 20-25 yards. I can't imagine they'll rush him into action. A knowledgeable Bradshaw should be more effective then a noob Richardson.

He may get more if the game is a blow out and he gets some mop up duty.

JMO...

He will play behind both Bradshaw and Brown this week. Have some patience TRICH owners and Colts fans. Think about the reality of this.

The COlts are playing the 49ers. Pass protection is vital and the ability to run on the Niners is shaky, at best. Temper your expectations and consider that the Colts will likely making protection of Luck a priority. Bradshaw can do that better than a Rb who has been with the team for about a day (keep in mind, they have to travel, etc).

I'm in dire straits with SJax out and this TRich trade, but I'm not starting him. I'm just going to roll with Woodhead

With Lacy hurt...its harder not to start him.

Thankfully, in both leagues that I have both Richardson and Lacy I did stash Moreno. Going with him in both of those.

In the 3rd league that I have him...right now leaning towards Gio and hoping like crazy that GB adjusts their D a bit after some teams have passed on them and allows a little running room (and that he gets a few receptions...PPR)

I would be very cautious of them not playing TR much bedause they are going to need a lot of protection this week for Luck.

May not have a choice in a 16-teamer, but I don't like it...

Would suggest other options if you have them, but sometimes you don't have such luxuries in deeper leagues.

Same here. I have T-Rich, McCoy, Gore, and Joique Bell so I am benching T-Rich this week and going with the other 3 at my 2RB and FLEX. I think T-Rich will be up to speed by week 4 when they face the Jags, which could end up being a monster game for him. If Reggie Bush was 100% healthy I might be inclined to stick with T-Rich over Bell.

FWIW in the 4 leagues I am in where I do not own T-Rich, only one owner has him on the bench (at least right now) he is going with Reggie Bush and Bernard in a 10 team non-ppr. Maybe he will swap Bush and T-Rich before kickoff.....

Am concerned he may not get a lot of touches first week on a new team – combine that with the stout Niners run D (except of course when they face Lynch) and I may bench T-Rich for G Bernard. Unsure - will waffle back and forth up until Sunday.

Agree with the dont over think it. They will teach him a handful of protections for Sunday and he will be in there to pound the rock, probably come out on any long situations as they do have a good blocker in bradshaw as well.

If he was a linemen or wr I'd say it be more of a challenge, but he should be fine on Sunday

I have pulled him from my lineup as of now in favor of Powell. I will be watching this one closely until Sunday and any good news will probably have me change it back.

Crazy that Moreno is your "bail out" player. Heck of a contingency plan considering he is probably a top 15-18 RB this year.

Owning both Bradshaw and TRich, I'm rolling with Bradshaw this week....it might be the last time...ever.

Drafted him late when nobody was going after him in one league. The other he was an add...but we have very short benches and restricted rosters to just 4 RBs.

The Colts think Trent Richardson will be ready to be their primary ball carrier on Sunday in San Francisco, just five days after he was acquired in a trade with the Browns.

Colts coach Chuck Pagano said Richardson will be given “as much as he can handle” against the 49ers and that they didn’t trade for Richardson so he could stand on the sidelines.

“We did not bring him in here to be the water boy on Sunday,” he said. “He’ll be ready to roll.”

Kind of hard to sit trich after hearing this

I can start two RBs and one W/R flex. I have Forte, Richardson, Lacy, and Pierce, so I'm between a rock and a hard place as well. At this point, I'm hoping Rice is out and Pierce starts. If so, I'll go Forte and Pierce and then have to choose between Richardson, Antonio Brown, and "Touchdown" Eddie Royal. I think Richardson is as good a flex as either of those WRs.

Starting him in one league over no good options, sitting him in another league for McFadden. Hedging my bet but I expect a big day. I mean how hilarious is it going to be if he comes out and runs for 150+ and three scores? Of course if he starts and totally tanks I guess the Browns get a good laugh at everyone.

I believe you should go with TRich here. SF may not be as stout in seasons past and DEN's front seven is legit. I can only see DMC salvaging his day via receptions this week. JMHO.

Seems a bit optimistic to me. Aren't those close to the numbers he was averaging in Cle -- where he knew the plays, players, and got a full load of carries? This week he's going to a new team, against a good defense, playing on the road across the country -- and he's never played with any of these team mates before.

I'd guess that the Colts play him as little as possible. Otherwise, what's the sense of taking a guy who's just had the rug pulled out from under him and putting him in an situation where he's likely to underperform right off the bat? I have him on a team - so I'd love for him to go out and have a huge day - but from a practical perspective, I don't think they'll put too much on his plate. Why use him heavily on the road against a tough team when he doesn't have the time to prep - when in a week he could actually be involved with the team and get to start at home.

First, here's good news for those with TRich in terms of his usage this weekend...

ESPN's Bob Holtzman reported on NFL Insiders Trent Richardson "expects to play and play a lot" in Week 3 at San Francisco.

Richardson told Holtzman the Colts' offense is not entirely dissimilar from Browns coach Rob Chudzinski's, which he's been learning the past seven months. We're still skeptical Richardson will play even close to a full complement of snaps in a new system behind new blockers after two practices as a Colt. His ceiling is probably around 16 carries in a tough matchup at Candlestick

Oh, and just came across this about the potency of Colt RBs...take into consideration with the above:

So far this season (and yes, I’m aware it’s only been two weeks), the Colts rank – wait for it - first in the league in adjusted rushing net expected points per play. With each carry, they’re doing more with the ball than any other NFL team. Again, like the Browns, this may be blowing your mind. But go ahead and take a look at even their raw numbers and you may be surprised. Vick Ballard, before his injury, had a nice 4.8 yards per carry average against the Raiders. Bradshaw ran effectively last week, bringing his season average to 4.1 yards per carry. Even Donald Brown has touched the ball seven times for 30 yards, people.

The Colts have a quarterback that can run with the ball in his hands, too, which helps. But really, this effectiveness shouldn’t be all that eye-opening. Last year under Bruce Arians’ direction, the Colts ranked 14th in efficiency. The reason we didn’t see more fantasy production from their running backs was because there was a committee for parts of the season, and the backs just didn’t get into the end zone.

Trent Richardson, who scored 12 times during his rookie year, will have something to say about that.

Pep Hamilton’s offense is much more balanced than Arians'. Not from a pass-to-run ratio perspective, but from the standpoint that there aren’t as many vertical passes, and the running game matters a little more. Despite valuable, talented receivers and one of the best young quarterbacks in the league, the Colts will run the ball. And Trent Richardson will see better averages because of it.

And finally, SF actually has given up quite a few points to RBs the first two weeks of this season:
