anyone use it for approx. $75?  some years ago I paid for it, had to cancel & the whole process was a huge pain.  is it better now?  experienced travel guys please weigh in.

My experience has been there are far too many inclusions for it to be worthwhile.  We had a long Egypt trip planned back when the uprising happened and travel insurance didn't cover it because war, revolution, and uprisings were excluded.  Lesson learned.  Read the fine print.

I've gotten it the last couple years for a house we rent in Hilton Head in October. Hurricanes are a legit threat during that timeframe.

Otherwise I probably wouldn't, but it depends where you're going.

Plenty of credit cards offer some kind of coverage as long as you use it for the purchase of the trip. Should always check those first.

Got it for Switzerland train trip in June. Don’t usually get it, but this is a semi-guided tour with lots of excursions and the like where something can go wrong.

Damn! They don't even cover a war breaking out. Lol

Considering it after booking 4 days in Rome, 8 day cruise, 4 days in Bilbao in April.  Will have to look at fine print better

The reason for insurance is if you could not afford something.  Buying insurance is always a losing proposition or they would not offer it.  So generally you should not take it.  But if there is something that is a realistic possibility and the result would be catastrophic to you financially, then be safe and take the insurance.  I have never had or even considered trip insurance.  But getting auto insurance on a rental car in a foreign country has paid off for me.  Not huge but did pay off $1200 worth of damage.
