Troy Williamson?!?! (2 Viewers)

Darn, I was about to start the Troy Williamson hype thread. He's caught every pass thrown to him in preseason.

7-221 already in preseason.

He's a guy I have been drafting at the end of most drafts. He isn't costing anything to draft and it can't hurt to be picking up pointers from Holt.

I've always liked Williamson. He gets open and creates separation that's for sure. The only thing that has ever held him back is that he couldn't catch or track the ball well. If he's gotten that figured out then he is worth a roster spot on fantasy teams IMO.

He's looked damn good in the preseason. Sure it's always good to take preseason games with a grain of salt, but is this guy worth a late round flier?

From yesterdays footballguys daily email updates:

Michael C. Wright, from the Florida Times-Union, reports Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio pointed out Troy Williamson as one of the club's most surprising players, not just against Miami, but for the entire training camp. "I told you one of the bright spots coming out of the game Monday night - and it's no different looking at the tape - is Troy and Nate [Hughes] and their ability to separate and catch the ball. Troy's done a nice job, had a nice camp," Del Rio said.

Troy Williamson looked really good in the Jags preseason game versus the Dolphins. He was able to get open along the sidelines with his speed, and hauled in a nice over-the-shoulder catch from QB Todd Bouman. With Mike Walker banged up (again), Williamson has taken advantage of the opportunity. If he continues to perform like this, we could see him in the starting lineup opposite Torry Holt.

don't know whats got into Troy making all these grabs lately.......on another note he seems to have the same itch ans stain on his shins that Fred Bilietnikoff had :goodposting:

Just picked him up in my league that draft last night, and I feel dirty for it. I didn't think Troy Williamson would ever be on another fantasy roster -- let alone mine.

We knew he had the speed, seems like he is actually making the most of the Walker injury. With games against AZ, Hou (twice) Sea, STL, KC and SF, there are some nice matchups on the schedule. On an offense looking for playmakers outside of MJD he is looking like a great late round flyer right now. Seems like he could be a boom or bust with similar stat lines to a Lee Evans type.

I'm not sure about Troy Williamson, but Garrard is looking like great QB value this year. He's been going around QB18-20 in every draft I've been in which seems cheap considering he finished closer to QB10 than QB20 last season and his situation is better this year.

well, it helps having a QB that can actually throw the ball.also, it does typically take a WR 2-3 years to put things together as a starting quality WR. and I'm certain his time in Minnesota didnt help him as much as it should. Still, this is exhibition. dont get too excited. He's getting lots of these catches against 2nd string defenders and some players who may not even be in the NFL in 4 weeks time. If he's still doing really well in his last exhibition game and moves up the depth chart to #2 or #1 on the team, then I'd say it's time to jump on the bandwagon.so let's give it some time and see what he does as the exhibition season progresses.

Anything is possible but the number of WRs who break out with fantasy worthy numbers in their fifth season is small. The guy always could get open but never could catch--is that something you finally figure out after five years in the NFL and playing ball all your life?

He may produce some this year. I would only consider picking him up at a rock bottom price, depending on your league rules. Also, remember they have 3 rookie wr's.

Last night's TD came on the first play from Scrimmage. His catches against Miami came in the first and second quarter. He is not out there exclusively in garbage time. His problem in the past was that he wasn't holding on to the ball. He appears to have overcome that problem to date. There are a lot worse late round WR's to grab. If you wait until he is 1st or 2nd on the depth chart he won't be coming so cheap and if he reverts back to his old self then you have taken a greater gamble and lost an opportunity to pick up a middle round WR with a track record of consistency. I say grab him now with a late roster spot and if he doesn't pan out he can be the roster drop for a hot Waiver Wire pick up during the season.

I'm not sure yet if Troy is for real. As has been stated previously, Troy has been able to get open in the past, it's holding onto the ball that's been the issue. Maybe he's turned the corner so to speak and finally figured out how to catch the ball. Or maybe he's just had a good streak of catches in the preseason. I know I'm going to have a hard time buying into it until I see it happen in a couple regular season games.

If Troy is indeed for real, it could be the end of Mike Walker in Jacksonville. I know Mike is a popular sleeper pick and he has NFL skills, but the Jaguars are extremely frustrated at this point with his lack of ability to get on the field. It would still be somewhat of a surprise if the Jags cut Mike Walker but don't be shocked if it happens.

MOP here for some reality check...Garrard and Williamson...Garrard was 4/7 for 20 yards against Miami and was under pressure all night long. He did take advantage of a pass rushless Bucs this past weekend but I think it speaks volumes to how bad the TB pass rush is vs Garrard really being able to do much.

Williamson is having a nice preseason agianst inferior talent, props to him and everyone else that take him in redrafts.

I don't think anyone is putting Williamson in the upper echelon of wide receivers. Williamson just didn't hold on to the ball in the past. There is a lot of water over the dam with this guy but it isn't a bad gamble to pick him up at this point as an end of the roster gamble. He is getting open and holding on to the ball; that's a pretty good start.I can tell you that Joey Galloway isn't exactly lighting it up for the Patriots. Is Williamson really that much more of a gamble as an end of the roster roll of the dice given that he is showing something? If you hit with him you are likely to get a WR who will be playing opposite Holt in the #2 role and the long ball threat.

Well, there are a lot of factors that go into catching a ball.1) accuracy of the QB. (has been poor in the past)2) the touch that goes on the ball. some WR's have a harder time catching balls from a strong armed QB, while others will actually catch balls better if the QB is right or left handed. I'm not saying this is a major factor, but can be a contributing factor here.3) coaching. sometimes (for unknown reasons) a WR will respond better to certain receiving coaches and badly to others. I'm not saying this guy is going to light it up, but it may be prudent to watch his progress. Enough things have changed for him that it could make a difference to his bottom line.

I normally don't drop guys after one week but truthfully I drafted him thinking that I would probably ditch him when waivers opened. I traded him in for Laurent Robinson, who had 10 targets. I figure the Rams will be throwing a lot.

With Chase claiming Garrard is a must start this week - I'm keeping a hold of Williamson for now. If there isn't some sort of light at the end of the tunnel after this week then he's off to the WW.

He's not going to catch a lot of passes, but he will catch some big ones. There's a reason why WRs arent as consistent for your fantasy team as RBs.
