Truck crashes into ABC Baltimore, robot.searching.for.perps (1 Viewer)

Guy is barricaded on second floor. SWAT on scene, bunch of schools nearby on lock down.

I have to go to the Orioles game tonight, finish him!

Is everyone suddenly losing their marbles all at once? Our mental health system must clearly be in a shambles.

He commandeered a lawn truck and rammed it through the front doors. No reports of him having a weed-wacker...yet.

I saw a study that showed that every time there is a big shooting (like Columbine or Sandy Hook), there is a large spike of similar shootings for a couple of years after. This usually gives the impression that the world is starting to go off the hinges, but that's actually not the case.

I'm not defending anything here. Just making that clear. I don't have a link or anything. I actually saw a report on the news after the Aurora, CO shooting. It was fairly interesting.

Ok, thanks for the info. Still, I would hope that someone is taking a look at improving the nation's overall mental health.

They could learn a lot from observing some of the threads here.

Can we start by having you committed?

I do think our mental health system is a disaster. Part of that though is due to the way we view and treat individual rights. It's very difficult to force treatment on people that most need it.

Heck--I've long thought the world is going off it's hinges. The more people see the chaos the more some seem to be inspired.

The "system" might work if we could get people into it. But right now the system is set up so that the only way to get into it is if you commit a crime or if you have a lot of money. So if you don't have the money, you're not going to get help until it's too late to protect society.

(Then again, Adam Lanza's parents had money and he slipped through the cracks...)

Just curious, is the station covering themselves? All the reports I see are from other stations. Are they on the air or just static?

(Once there was a traffic accident outside the TV station I worked at. We were the second news crew on the scene to something that was literally 20 feet outside our front door. Turns out, just by coincidence, the car right behind the car that was involved was being driven by a different station's news cameraman, and he had all his gear with him. Sigh.)

Channel 2 is by far the lowest-rated station in the market, but even so, I think this kind of sweeps promotional activity is out of bounds.

Not sure how you get around this in a free society.

ANd also, are't we kind of assuming the conclusion here? Is it stone-cold known that these Adam-Lanza and Dylan-Klebold types always give out unmistakeable tells to their murderous futures well in advance?

Hope they have this cleared up by 5, as I need to hit Wells Discount Liquors and the dry cleaner this afternoon - both of which are in the shopping center adjacent to Channel 2.

Huh... I´ll be at that game too. Cornhole?
Will Foos vouch for you? I don't want another Furley stalking incident, I am quite breathtaking.
Ask Zilla.
Pickles before the game?
My co-workers will be at Pickles beforehand, but I won't as I need to help out at home and then come back after the game starts. It would have to be mid-game.

Pretty much YES on both your question and your 2nd statement.

There are a lot more from wherever this clown came from.

Forget it. It's beyond fixing.

I'd be running the asylum in a week, tops.

So, the key to stopping these shootings is to first stop these shootings.

I am so glad that it looks like nobody was hurt. Because of that, I am able to enjoy the pleasant surreality of national news coverage taking place around the corner and down the street from my house. Would be a nightmare come true if the guy had shot people or gone into the school of the Catholic church that shares a driveway with the TV station.

But it sure is kind of weird to see your own neighborhood in one of these situations.

And though there are plenty of places other than Wells Discount Liquors that I can buy booze tonight, I am serious about needing to get to the dry cleaner because I'm all out of shirts.

It's .25 drafts at Gators tonight.

Gone, but not forgotten.

Just got this email about the athletic field behind the TV station:

RainedOut Notification Towson Recreation CouncilAll activities at forge park( only) are cancelled today !
Unfortunately, my daughter's practice is not at Forge Park and will continue as scheduled.
