True Detective: Tom went in to listen to the Cardinals game...in November. Mmmmmhmmmm... (1 Viewer)

man, these characters are so messed up, and there's a lot of subtext going on... I kinda dig it.

it's interesting how it doesn't seem like the city is too interested in Ray solving the case, but Frank desperately wants him to solve it. Sheriff chick has issues out the wazoo (and it's a glorious wazoo...), but seems like a good detective. and pretty much everyone thinks the CHP guy is a joke.

I think the mayor is in on it somehow, but he seems so sleazy that it could be a red herring.

I just watched the last two minutes again. Ray is dead.
Please don't be offended when I say that I'm not going give your observations a lot of weight.
There were three things that seemed to foreshadow his death I thought...That last conversation with that cut up chick, said something about the only way he'd get a vacation was if he was dead

When he told those kids to get out of that agueduct, they flipped him off and he said something like, yeah, f#$k me

Said something like "we get the life we deserve"

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but the scene where RM is watching porn... is she watching that for her pleasure? Or is she watching that looking for something related to the case? Because to me it seemed as though she was watching it for her pleasure. She seemed to be into the double-penetration thing.

Thought it was related to her sister and the commune thing but I didn't realize Velcro lived in the police dept parking lot so wtf do I know.

Yea, she was playing videos not looking at still images of the star.

I like the current thread title. I can't do any better than half-watching this show. It hasn't held my attention so far. And it's a sort of positive feedback loop: since it's not that interesting, I don't really pay attention, which means I don't really know what's going on, which makes it less interesting, so I pay attention even less...

Do you pay attention better here on the FFA?

And, if so, does that mean we are more interesting than True Detective?

I guess I am one of the few who is really enjoying this season so far. And I do find it much more helpful to watch the show with subtitles turned on. I get so much more information.

I'm getting to the point where I ant watch any serious show without subtitles.

Amazing how much I miss.

When people whisper, scream or mumble something I have a hard time hearing/understanding.

This thread in particular I just skim through quickly with even less heed than I pay to the show.

Other threads hold my attention better.

It's possible that this season will be better on the second viewing. I also had trouble getting into The Wire initially, and that ended up being my favorite show ever. It's just hard to follow without already knowing what's going on.

Totally agree. Not as good as the last season in both acting and direction, but it's better than 99% of what's out there. I'm hooked.

"Hey wife it's 5:30 AM mind if I turn on some big bright ####### lights while I cry about my mean dad?"
I get it. Its dark. Why not just start a ####### podcast series then??
Because the entire show doesn't occur in the darkness?
They should film all of Vaughn's scenes in complete darkness.
Is it just me or is "Jesse" the worst actor ever?

nah, it is the way of the FFA to come in here and ##### about how everything in life should be better. The Jurassic World thread is gold.

She is into butt secs. :pickle:

Sucks so far.

Finished season 1 last week so the greatness of it is still fresh. Also, plowing through House of Cards....watching TDS2 season next to those shows is probably making things worse.

Are all the aerial freeway shots just because they didn't have enough actual story to fill an hour?

Maybe instead of the freeway shots they could've spent a little more time explaining why gay bike cop got a promotion for finding a dead body?

The state wanted to use the investigation to expose the corruption in Vinci. Since CHP Dude found the body, they used that as a way to assert jurisdiction and be involved, while allowing Ventura CID (for which McAdams works) to take point. They covered this in the scene where the bosses were discussing the matter in what looked like a VFW hall.

Dude, Vinci isn't even a real city....

they did the same shots of the bayou last year but they worked last year. Its like they were trying to do the same thing this year but it looks dumb.

Did I hear correctly, Vinci has 95 residents? Wtf?
They've shut out residential areas except for bare essentials, to free up space for industrial development. They have a lot of heavy polluting industry, the implication is that they corruptly allow these to set up in Vinci and avoid environmental standards elsewhere. The city get lots of legit income from fees, taxes & whatever else, they have to provide minimal services due to having few residents, as well as the kickbacks for everyone involved.

Pretty sweet scheme really.

Gangs are all about turf.

TV shows/ directors love establishing shots.

BUT I will give somewhat of a pass here. Freeways are LA and vice versa.

Notice how shows set in NY have to show iconic buildings or skyscrapers etc? (Friends and the damn flatiron building comes to mind)

The city of Vinci and its politics is really interesting...but I guess you have to whole-watch.

Did I read that right back there? The Colin Farrell character invented Velcro?

Figured a guy like that would live in a nicer parking lot next to a police station.
