TV shows that I want to remake/reboot (1 Viewer)

If I were a TV producer, which I am definitely NOT, these shows would be on my radar:

Match Game - Would tape this in Las Vegas, like they used to do with that celebrity poker show. Get a funny host, book a good mix of A-, B- and C-list celebs and let the booze flow backstage. Would go with the vintage look for the set.

The Fall Guy - Underrated show. Lee Majors was the man. I am not sure who would be ideal to star in this these days. Maybe this guy.

The Millionaire

Life

If i had a choice of any show to pitch, starring anyone i want, I have one of the weirdest show ideas of all time - a sitcom version of the Diving Bell & the Butterfly starring Dave Chappelle. Dead serious.

And, of course, i'd like the pilot i wrote for ABC 30 yrs ago - based on Franklin Ajaye's character in Car Wash, a ghetto kid who imagines (and draws) himself as a superhero called The Fly every time he gets in a jackpot or wants to win the girl - to be picked up.

The Nightstalker

It would have to be HBO or Amc or FX or a similar network

I'd do 10 to 13 episode seasons with longer arcs

Twilight zone...I know it has been tried and sucked, but I'd spend a long period of time acquiring scripts and seeing what talented writers have always wanted to write a twilight zone. Vince Gilligan seems like that type of guy...Look to authors, writers for other shift like doctor who, and just really try to do quality stuff....

Breaking Bad. Its about time for a reboot. Imagine how awesome it would be with all the new technology since show ended.

Rockford Files
This is one I have thought about, but it is a little like attempting to remake Cool Hand Luke: the original is already perfect and there is nobody else who could play the main character and not have it feel like a cheap imitation.
I always looked at "Burn Notice" as a modern day Rockford Files with the whole ex-spy thing thrown in there to sexy it up.

Dead Like Me
Playmakers
Sports Night
These just seem like TV shows that you liked that you would like to have back on TV.

I never watched Dead Like Me. I don't know what Playmakers is/was.

Sports Night was great, but it was good because of the cast/writing mainly. I don't think the concept of a show behind the scenes of another show needs to be done again. Christ, Sorkin has already done it three times himself.

It's a tv show that I want remadeWhat is the title of your thread again? If you want, you can get that hag Connie Britton to be in it

Playmakers was a show on ESPN about a fictional football team and all the drama associated with it. Stuff like affairs, drug abuse, steroids, fights, etc. It was only on for 1 seaons before the NFL told ESPN they needed to cancel it. Was a pretty solid show. And pretty accurate looking back on it.

Remakes can run into trouble fast if you don't have the chemistry/acting ability that the original show had.

Two examples of great shows that may be remade but which I doubt will go far are:

Freaks and Geeks and The Odd Couple. I know The Odd Couple has been re-introduced, but I haven't seen any of the shows. I will likely not bother to watch them because I can't imagine the actors doing a better job than Jack Klugman and Tony Randle.

One show which I could see them re-make is The Gong Show. That was very entertaining. No problem replacing Chuck Barris.

Continuations can also be interesting.

Family Feud was very entertaining with Richard Dawson (although he didn't seem into it at all in his later years), but he was 100x better than Louie Anderson who looked like his dog died every episode.

Hostile much? LOL

Regarding the Odd Couple remake, Thomas Lennon does well as Felix but Matthew Perry is miscast as Oscar. I'm sure there are enough middle-aged, gruff actors who would play Oscar's role better. Maybe John Cusack?

Matthew Perry is a terrible actor. Didn't realize they cast him as Oscar. Just thinking of his voice makes me cringe. Like you say, you'd need someone who is gruff (or can act gruff) to play the part of Oscar.

Taxi and Alice

I was very young but they were great!

You can kiss my grits!

I would also recommend the participants do some drinking, just like they did on Jane Lynch's Hollywood Game Night.
