Two Hours of Live Audible Tonight 7/15 10 pm Eastern (1 Viewer)

Evening gents,

So having just penned the Backup QB article for the site, it has me thinking through the fantasy impact of backup QBs. Sometimes it can work out beautifully (see Kurt Warner taking over for Trent Green), other times it can work out reasonably well (Matt Cassel for Tom Brady) but not as well as things would've been with the intended starter, and then of course sometimes it can be a complete disaster. It seems to me that the state of the backup QB is ROUGHER than normal. I heard on the radio a stat which suggests that 13 of the 32 teams will field a QB2 that has never won a game, and that the overall winning percentage of the projected 32 backups is 42%. That's rougher than Chase Stuart after a few Amstels.

My question for you both is to talk through the teams/players that you think would MOST be impacted by a major injury to their star QB. Keeping in mind that we all assume Brett Favre is coming back, also discuss what you would do with the Vikings skill players if Favre's ankle turns out to be too hurt for his return.

Thanks guys

How do you see Anthony Gonzalez fitting into the Colts passing game? Gonzo has had the opportunity lineup outside and play the slot. Just going by the stats, he at least equaled (I think he was a little better) Collie in the slot, and outplayed Garcon on the outside (excluding the playoff performance). He is getting no love as a possible starter. Can you give any insight based on the tape?

I have contract/keeper league free agent auction in just over a week. Given the available free agents, my limited available cap space, and my needs, I've been narrowing down my "target list" and would like your thoughts on the players in the following buckets based on potential production and price.

Who is the best player to target in each bucket when considering ceiling, floor, and likely cost:

RB2/3: R. Williams, Bradshaw, Forsett, Portis, C. Williams, Maroney

WR2/3: Ward, Welker, Bowe

WR3/4: Breaston, Knox, Floyd, Evans

TEBC (w Cooley): Winslow, Z. Miller, Daniels, H. Miller

Thanks!

Football Outsiders Almanac (FOA) 2010

What is your take on the Football Outsiders Almanac, have you read it?

I like there analysis because its usually different than what you find in general FF sites.

Hey guys! Only 8 weeks, 5 hours and 2 minutes until Minnesota and NO kick off the season!

Who are the top 5 kick returners that also have a role on offense? I play in a league with 1 point per 10 return yards, so it'd be helpful. Thanks, and I appreciate the help.

Dodds' "Ten players to build around" article just hit the site. Can you give us five of yours that Dodds might not have mentioned? :cough:..Hakeem Nicks: cough...

Good evening guys. Hope all is well with you both.

Just a quick question this week. What are your feelings about Demetri Nance? I liked what limited highlights I saw of him prior to the draft. His path is certainly blocked in Atlanta. Is he worth hanging onto in a deep dynasty, non-PPR league? Maybe he needs to go to a second team to get his opportunity? Obviously hanging on to Nance is a long-term investment.

Thanks as always for your insights.

Dynasty Greg

1. Lots of talk about the Washington passing game these days. What should we expect to see?

1. What do we know about past Shanahan offenses in terms of pass:run ratio?

2. McNabb's fit into the Shanahan scheme,

3. The impact of RB receiving from this 3-headed RB monster of Portis, LJ and FWP,

4. Is Cooley healthy and how will Fred Davis be sprinkled in,

5. Does Santana Moss have gas in the tank to be a #1? Will Devin Thomas emerge this year? Are they seriously considering T.O.? Is Malcolm Kelley going to be cut?

2. What type of confidence does Singletary have in Alex Smith? What type of record in the first half of the season would cause him to be sent to the bench and would they go to David Carr or Nate Davis?

3. Lynell Hamilton's name has gotten a little chirp lately, what do we know of Pierre Thomas situation and could Hamilton be a sleeper this year to the tune of Top 30RB? Top 20? What's the feel?

I would like to hear what people think about Zach Miller, TE Oakland. He has a ton of talent and has been Oakland's best receiver despite horrible QB play. Now, with the addition of Jason Campbell we hear about how Heywood-Bey, Louis Murphy, or Chaz Schilens are good upside players, but not much about Miller. Campbell likes to throw to TEs. Last season in my PPR league Miller was #11 TE but yet most rankings for 2010 put him about #10-12, no change. Why won't he be a top 6 TE in 2010?

Let's discuss YOUR next Roy Williams. The F.O'ers. (see above) seem to like KC's top wideout. The talent is there. He's had some success in the past. He's doing the Fitzgerald thing this summer? But let's not forget what he did to Fanstasy owners last season. I can still feel it. Why not DBowe this year? ADP 58 in PPR; a fifth round pick. I think his talent and the fact that he's in Fitz's camp bodes well for a rebound year. Again, why not? Not everyone from LSU sucks, right? Who's with me? However, Roy Williams is still Roy Williams.

How is Willie Colon's injury going to affect Heath Miller's production? Are the Steelers the type of team to hold Miller in to help out or will he get the same # of looks?

Talk about Ryan Mathews and LeSean McCoy in redraft PPR. FBGs as a whole seems to be down on these two players relative to other sites. Both seem to have high floors and upside because of their situations. What would you say their floors are? Minimally, I see both catching 40+ and both getting 200+ carries. An increase in receptions for McCoy and a major increase in carries for Mathews.

Here is something to consider regarding Mathews: I think Mathews will get a lot of garbage time stats being in such a weak division. I have not watched a lot of the Chargers in the regular season, but I seem to recall LT being taken out during garbage time in previous seasons. Mathews, being a rookie, will play the entire game as Norv tries to give him experience for their inevitable playoff run. I think he has major upside and his ceiling is what LT produced a few seasons ago. With a late first rounder, I'd look to pair him up with a stud wr. His oline may be below average, worse without McNeill, but the afc west is as bad as ever and he has an easy schedule. In addition, you know he's going to get a heavy workload because the Chargers gave up a significant amount to move up to draft Mathews. In my mind, I can't see Mathews being a bust, even with the expectations of a late first rounder.

I'm not as confident with McCoy, but I anticipate a lot of receptions for him, which lowers his downside in PPR.

Prove me wrong about these two(if you can)!

Keep up the good work. You two make work a lot less soul-crushing when a new show comes out.

Edited for clarity.

What's up brothers!! My dynasty team is a championship contender this year but my LB's are by far the weakest part if my team. Here's my depth chart: Tatupu, Daryl Smith, Julian Peterson, Kevin Burnett, D. Ellerbe, Stephen Nicholas, Roth & Jamar Williams. (Donald Butler is on my taxi squad as well). I'm in a 16 team league with 50 man rosters so the free agent pool is very thin.

Can Spicolli's old man's ultimate set of tools fix this mess? Any heads up on any linebackers that could come from no where to be productive this year would be awesome!

Thanks guys!

What do you think about Adrian Peterson's career longevity? In a recent FBG news blogger item, it was stated "Our view: It makes sense because Peterson is one of those players whose candle is burning at both ends. His physical style of running means he probably won't last as long in the NFL as his peers, so he needs to lock in that next big deal before a serious injury sidelines him and saps some of his future value."

Do you guys agree with this? Is he really more injury prone than other elite backs like CJ or MJD? Do you expect him to have a shorter career than RBs like those guys who are roughly the same age? Is this something that would make you look to deal him in a dynasty league?

Hey guys,

Now that we know Harvey Unga is on the bears what running backs would you say have similar value to him in a ppr dynasty?

Hey guys, I need some RB advice. I'm in a keeper auction league NOT PPR standard scoring 12 team $180 cap. Right now I have M. Ryan $17, A Johnson $42, M. Austin $3, P. Thomas $17, K. Moreno $22, J. Stewart $22, L. McCoy $17, and Hardesty (can keep at high bid). I'm keeping Johnson, Austin, 2 RBs and restricting probably another RB. I really don't feel comfortable with any of these RBs. Should I overpay for someone like Mathews or Jackson (both will be restricted)? All the other top RBs will be kept. I will probably have to pay $60+ for Jackson and $50+ for Mathews for the owner to let go. I'm not one to overpay, what do you think?

On another note, I was offered P. Manning ($47) for McCoy and Hardesty. Would you make that move? Other good QBs available are Ryan, Farve, Palmer, Stafford, Flacco, and Kolb. I could probaby get two of these QBs for the price Manning would cost.

Thanks!

Hey guys - always look forward to my weekly audible fix!

If you are looking to swing for the fences but can afford to wait a year or 2, which of these players has the highest upside for a PPR dynasty league?

Is that upside RB1,2,3; WR1,WR2 etc.

Looking at guys who would be about 5% of the cap or less, Feel free to mention any others.

WR: Jacoby Jones, Dr Roxo, Malcolm Kelly, Devin Thomas, DHB, Robiskie?

RB: Maroney, BJGE, Foster, Choice, Lynch?

ah kkkkkk-yaaaaayah!!!!

guys, i am close to beginning a dynasty draft (12 team full IDP PPR) and i've already traded my 1.09, and 7th, 8th round picks for a 2nd, 3rd, and 6th. looking to make more moves to acquire more mids and am wondering what your "hot zones" are. obviously i dont know exactly how things will play out but we start 11 IDP, KR, and 9 O (2 flex) so i'm just looking for some idea of the rounds that you think hold value that i would be wise to trade into.

thanks fellas. dr rockzo gonna make a balooooooooooon animal for ya!

Dynasty PPR leagues

James Jones

Jacoby Jones

Donnie Avery

Laurent Robinson

Jordy Nelson

Early Doucet

Brandon Tate

Austin Collie

Who's current value outweighs their upside and should be shopped to help this years lineup?

Hey guys! I can't get enough of the show. I've listened to every single broadcast since the beginning. Keep that audible crack coming!

Looking for some trade advice for a a team that lost the championship game last year by 2.8 points. I'm not bitter at all. really. I. promise.

12 team PPR Dynasty league.

You can start 1-3 RB 2-4 WR and 1-2 TE.

I was offered Hakeem Nicks for Shonn Greene. I view Hakeem Nicks as having top 12 upside this year and beyond, while Greene is devalued a bit in PPR. Getting Nicks will allow me to start four top 20 WRs each week to go with Ray Rice at RB. On the other hand having Greene as a RB3 is a perfect spot for him in the event that he somehow miraculously plays all 16 games and gets those 250+ touches.

Based on this roster, what do you think?

McNabb, Donovan WAS QB

Moore, Matt CAR QB

Palmer, Carson CIN QB (P)

Rice, Ray BAL RB

Thomas, Pierre NOS RB

Bush, Michael OAK RB

Forsett, Justin SEA RB

Taylor, Chester CHI RB

Green, Shonn NYJ RB

Fitzgerald, Larry ARI WR

Jennings, Greg GBP WR

Smith, Steve CAR WR

Tate, Brandon NEP WR

Floyd, Malcom SDC WR

Collie, Austin IND WR

Finley, Jermichael GBP TE

Witten, Jason DAL TE

Tynes, Lawrence NYG PK

Packers, Green Bay GBP Def

thanks again for all that you do!

Sup fellas!!

Running Backs in Detroit: I know tons of fantasy people are split on J.Best and his ability to stay healthy. What's K.Smith's status or expectations? If it turns out that Best gets knicked up early is it going to be KSmith's show again? Or will we see M.Morris take on a feature role?

Without Best at 100%...can we expect Detroit to look at a M.Lynch maybe?

Would like to have a bit clearer picture of what to expect in Detroit if say Best suffers any sort of long term injury during training camp, pre-season or 1st few games of season. (not that I hope anything bad happens to the guy)

Gents,

Great show, keep it up! Always happy to get my weekly fix!

Quick couple of questions this week:

I read somewhere recently that there's about 50% turnover on the Top 20 RBs from year to year. You'll have your perennial studs like AP, MJD, etc.. But expand a bit on some RBs who were NOT in the Top 20 for points (think PPR here) last year that have a good chance to crack the top 20 this year.

Please do the same for WRs as well.

Thanks again!

Hey guys, enjoy the show. Gotta keeper question for you. 12 team league .5PPR QB RB RB WR WR R/W TE K DEF.

We can keep up to 3 players. I'm keeping Turner for a 2nd and Rice for a 3rd. Debating on Schaub for a 5th (5/TD; -2/Int) or Finley for an 8th. I don't have a 4th round pick this year due to an ill-conceived trade last year, so I'm concerned if I keep Schaub I'm gonna be short on WR and I think Finley is a better value in the 8th.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks fellas.

Guys, hope you can fit this in:

Deep 60 man roster 16 team IDP dynasty:

1) Can you recommend a couple of Undrafted Rookie Free Agents to keep an eye on for the last 10 picks in my draft?

2) Will Troy Smith ever be relevant in deep leagues? Can he become a starter somewhere?

Good evening Gentlemen,

Great show, love listen to you while I work on college homework for my (CJ) classes.

I have a little strategy question for you two. When looking at players for bye week fill in’s in your draft, or auction, is it better to just focus on the better players or the guys that have great bye week matchups (using the bye weeks of the starters you just draft or bought?

Hey Lammey and Bloom,

Your show is what helps me get through the week until the college and NFL start! Great work and thanks for the Ray Rice hook up. Unfortunately, it appears that I need to post a little bit earlier in order to hear my questions/comments addressed on the show. Just goes to show the following you guys have.

1. Lammey, you have mentioned many times that A. Dixon relied upon gadget plays to make yards at Miss State. Have you put in the tapes of his junior year? You have to remember that the new HC when he was a senior was the former OC of the Gators and has been implementing the "Florida Lite" in Starkville. Prior Dixon was the I back straight ahead pounder. I think the "gadget" plays you are referring to were the zone read/QB veer type reads that have migrated to Starkville during his senior season.

2. I am in an auction/keeper league (180 cap during auction and up to in season cap of 230 for waiver pick ups bidding process) (PPR .5 per and 6 per passing/rush/rec TD) (starting line up 1 QB 1RB 2WR 1Flex 1Def 1K) and I have Ray Rice for $4. In order to keep we have to add $5 to the auction buy for each year we keep. So if I declare I want to keep for 2 more years he will cost me $14 next year and then again the year after. I also have the other Smith for a buck and Eli for 5. Should I keep all of them for only a year and try to go for the kill with money? Also, I am thinking of going for Moss and White or 2 similar top 10 WR types based on price value. This likely will leave me with players like J Best types left at RB to back up Rice.

Any types you would try to pick up on the RB side to supplement this situation as it seems that this year the diamonds in the ruff are on the WR side.

...and on to my Crown and Coke and listening to the best show out there...and yes let's get some DR. ROXO PLEASE! LUV IT...and let's go Steelers!!

Hear that Steve Smith (Carolina) is recovering better than expected. Do you see him as a late fast riser in his ADP?

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Report...ong-nicely.html

Also:

I believe Matt Moore is on the verge of losing the starting job. I think that it ultimately helps Steve Smith's value and decreases both Willaims and Stewarts vaule. I have heard the defense is very suspect in Carolina and got worse. Also, Coach Fox and GM are on hot seat in lame duck positions.

I like the Schaub value a little better in that scoring system, I think you'll get a Gonzo/Celek in 7th/8th or ZMiller in 9th/10th - as much as i like QBBC, Schaub in the 5th is solid value, and the kind of pick that would make me pass on QBBC if i had a chance to make it in a draft. .5 PPR also deflates TE a bit.

Jeremy Williams, WR, SD Blair White, WR, IND Keiland Williams, RB, WASI think Smith can still be an adequate starter as a bridge to a young QB, or in a bad situation like BUF or CLE - he didnt look overwhelmed in 07 and was set to start in BAL as a bridge to Flacco before he got sick in 08.

glad we can help!Dont just look at bye week matchup, your starters could go down/underperform and youll need backup for more than just a bye, plus even if starters pan out, a breakout backup has trade value. The one exception might be QB if you have a durable stud like Peyton/Brees and take one of the last backup QBs on the board.

I'll leave #1 for Cec - on #2 - keep Rice for as long as you can, keep Eli for just this year, maybe next, SSmith for at least 2-3. balance win now and win later. I like the plan of going for Moss at WR - not much keeper value, so may go for discount. RB i would look for bradshaw, Dbrown, MB3 - also like best.

Smiff after the 3rd is value, he'll creep back up, but not quite to where he was pre-injury. Moore is not going to lose the job, at least not to Clausen, not yet. As of right now, Cantwell (who has improved greatly) is the #2. I have not heard that Moore is slipping.

I got that info from Chris Landy of Fox Sports Radio, he does a regular appearance every Friday on local Tampa radio WDAE 620. I am paraphrasing, after boring me to death with the topic of a recently signed late round Buc, he got off subject and mentioned that Moore was going to be the starter, but he felt that Clausen would overtake him midway through the season. Also mentioned that Carolina's defense was weaker and both coach and GM were on hot seat. Sorry I can't provide link. Maybe a podcast is available of Landry's interview.
