Two Hours of Live Audible Tonight 8/12 10 pm Eastern (1 Viewer)

The output by you guys the past several weeks has been prolific; it appears the rest of the FF world now knows what the Shark Pool has know for nearly a deacde. You guys are the best in the business. Now that I'm done treating you guys the way Lammey treats C. Palmer's ...

For players like Hakeem Nicks, Ahmed Bradshaw, and Marion Barber that you are very high on, are you comfortable reaching for these guys drafting out of the 10 spot of a 10 team non-ppr redraft league?

It appears their ADPs vary greatly depending on source. If I want to secure the services of these guys, can I do so a bit earlier than some sources forcast?

Is there a Doctor (Rockzo) in the house ?

I would like some views on bottom of the dyno roster stashaway WRs. I'm "STRUG-GUL-LING" to rank them. I've loosely ranked them below.

Dex McCluster

Maurice Stovall

Kerry Meier

Antonio Brown

Steve Johnson

Brian Hartline

Jason Avant

Jacoby Ford

Carlton Mitchell

I'm particularly interested in your take on the future of Antonio Brown since you are the SteelMen.... McCluster is also an intriguing player, imo

Thank you for the time, gents.

OK, been waiting for this thread so you can drop some science.

Let's talk IDP, specifically in leagues that require full rosters including a starting DT and CBs. Discuss when you take your DT and/or CBs in the context of your overall draft. What are the top DTs roughly equivalent to at other positions? How about CBs? Please be specific.

Also, training camps always open us up to potential questions:

1) Has your enthusiasm for Percy Harvin waned at all with his 15+ missed practices due to migraines?

2) Do you make much of the Thomas Jones RB1 vs. Jamaal Charles situation in KC?

3) Which player have you RAISED the most on your board based on camp?

4) Which player have you DROPPED the most on your board based on camp?

Love the show guys. Keep up the good stuff!

Who do you see as a better PPR option Colston, Jennings, B Wells, P Thomas or R Matthews (have 4th pick). How have they been doing in training camp? All these guys I am aiming for a RB2 or WR2 in my PPR keeper league with MJD/R White as my current keepers. Would you take Romo over all of them (QB td's 5pts Rodgers, Peyton, Schaub are qb's in my division), if all the other top flight QB's are off the board (Rivers is only other cant miss QB available)? I'm afraid Romo/Rivers will be gone by the time I pick again.

If it makes any difference I do have an extra pick in the 5th and the 7th round to load up my team.

Thanks guys!

Guys, there is a lot of info here, so feel free to condense the question for the show however you want. I am facing a (nice) dilemma with my first pick in the upcoming draft (#5 overall). 14 team, PPR (2PPR for TE), all TDs are 6 pts, QB/2RB/3WR/TE/Flex (can be a QB). That last bit, combined with the size of the league, really puts a good premium on QBs.

I am keeping Chris Johnson at the cost of a 3rd, and Aaron Rodgers at the cost of a 4th). I have the 5th overall and then the 24th, then nothing until the 5th...so my first two picks really need to count. Ray Rice is kept, so for the top 6/7 options I'm looking at three of these guys falling to me:

ADP/MJD/Gore

Andre Johnson/Fitz

Brees/Peyton

Other top end guys likely being kept - Turner, Mendenhall, Roddy White, Brandon Marshall, Miles Austin, Hakeem Nicks, Beanie Wells, Jamaal Charles.

So, I have been hoping AJ falls to me and I grab him giving myself a nice three headed monster to start, maybe a QB like Romo if he falls to the second, and then harvest value from the 5th on. Taking Brees or Payton has also been an option b/c of the QB scoring and the fact I'm taking them away from my competition at a position of scarcity. I'd lean towards taking a Witten/Gates (VD is a keeper) with my second then, but it makes my WR group a bit harder to fill out. Most lately though, I've been considering Gore and then figuring I don't have to worry much about RB until the later rounds with he and Johnson.

Ok, the question is...what way would you lean, and what would your follow up strategy be in the draft?

I've joined a new league and we're currently debating what style to do it in. I don't believe any of the guys have either been in a keeper league or drafted by auction but we'd like to try. There is pretty universal acceptance of the keeper idea, but a lot of trepidation about the auction and a general feeling that we should "just do an draft keeper this year and then add in the auction next year". I have a ton of questions but you will probably anticipate all that (like when the lucky guy who gets the #1 draft this year takes CJ by draft, but next year we transition to auction, how do we compensate the unlucky guy who drafted last, etc, etc, yadda yadda).

Oh guru's of everything fantasy (and to a lesser degree 80's movie trivia), please enlighten this n00b on your preferences for both the auction draft and the keeper league, what rules govern the off-season, and what items should we include to make the experience to most fair and fun, and what pitfalls might we avoid. If there's a good primer for either of these on footballguys.com [insert "become a footballguys.com insider" plug here] please point me to it, because I can't find it.

P.S. Cecil, thanks for getting "Riding Shotgun" online so quickly. You really deserve this opportunity and you're dropping an excellent show.

You guys are big proponents of IDP Leagues. What type of scoring adjustments do you see being made to such leagues that would reflect the true value of solid defensive play for an NFL team and should those adjustments be made? I know it's hard to reflect the true value of a player like Revis but doesn't it seem a bit unfair that an elite defensive player is overlooked in drafts? Why can't we find a way to bring great defensive players to the fore-front like we do with the MJD's and ADP's of the world? On some level you could say the scoring systems in team defensive leagues at least capture the overall value of the elite players on that roster i.e. passing or running yards yielded.

Thanks Guys.....

I normally shy away from rookie running backs in redraft leagues.

However, this year I am extremely high on the top 3 rookie running backs. The Lions traded up to take Best. The Chargers traded the farm for Mathews. The Bills took Spiller really high ignoring their many other needs. From these actions and what I have been hearing in training camp reports, I think they are all going to be used extensively and all of them will outperform their ADP significantly. You two have offered your insights on them before so I won't ask for a general overview and I'll get to the point.

Have you heard anything about them regarding pass protection? To me, that is the only thing that could really hold back these rookie rbs. If you haven't heard anything recently, have you noticed anything from watching their game film?

Hey Guys,

My question is about Kenny Britt. He really hasn't had much exposure compared to the other guys he was drafted with. He is also in a run first offense that happens to have the NFL's greatest player. What is your take on him in a Dynasty PPR league format?

Stay Classy

In the 2 games Brent Celek played with Kevin Kolb at QB in 2009, Celek had 208 yards, 16 receptions, 20 targets, and a td. Adding in their close friendship, does Celek have the potential to massively outperform current projections?

Hey guys, (In Cecil's voice) Love the shoooooow.

Can you guys please stop the madness that is the idea that handcuffing is a successfull way to win a league? I've never been a handcuff guy and the only back that I would even consider handcuffing is AP. I've been reading a lot of posters that I really respect in the shark pool talking about handcuffing as the only way to go. I kid you not that one guy said he'd handcuff Steven Jackson with Kenneth Darby. The insanity....stop it.

Also, I was riding shotgun with ya Cecil (plug) and you mentioned that there is a good chance Clinton portis gets 1200 yards this year. How strongly do you feel about that?

PS, is "strongly" a word?

First time, long time.

I have a keeper question. I'm in a 12 team Non-PPR league where we keep 7 players each year. I'm keeping A. Rodgers, C. Benson, R. Mendenhall, Megatron, G. Jennings, and S. Rice. For my 7th keeper I'm a bit torn for long term value. I'm down to keeping either R. Brown, C. Portis, D. Brown, or D. Bowe. With my current receiver depth Bowe looks like the odd man out. I'm concerned with Portis' and R. Brown's long term value since Ronnie may get picked up by a middling team next year and not produce much more while Portis has mileage and injury problems. I really like Donald Brown's skillset and he will be the lead guy next year more than likely so I'm just wondering who you guys think I should keep.

Quick non football question for Cecil. I'm a huge Mike Patton fan like yourself, what's your favorite Patton project not named Faith No More? I lean Tomahawk and Mr. Bungle. Keep up the great work guys, I've been listening forever and just never ask questions.

Jahvid Best and Ryan Mathews get a lot of hype and their ADPs are showing it. Why is everyone writing off CJ Spiller? Do you see him as a potential Chris Johnson breakout player? He is almost the same exact height/weight as Johnson coming out of college and his situation coming into a sluggish offense with another RB around is similar to the situation Johnson encountered. Can you talk a little bit about Spiller; specifically what you think his ceiling and floor are in PPR leagues? Thanks guys.

First time, long time. Absolutely love the show guys.

I know both of you watch a lot of football and use what you see on the field to look beyond stats. With that in mind, what fantasy insight (if any) can be gained from watching preseason games? In general, what do you two look for in preseason games?

Who will be the WR1 in Oakland this season. Obviously DHB has the high draft status but Louis Murphy was just a better football player last season. Chaz Schilens is also in the mix. With Jason Campbell at the helm, I think too many people are sleeping on this team.

WHASSSUP fellas.

Who's on your list of players that you MUST leave the draft with (PPR)? Or, who are your Target Players to build around?

Hey guys, love the show. It is a must listen.

I have the first pick in a 12 team, non-ppr, start 3 WRs, 6 pts for all TDs league. I am targeting either J.Best or M.Barber to go with Nicks for my 4/5 draft picks. If both RBs are available which one should I take?

Thanks

Mike

Hello Gents, partial PPR IDP Dynasty, I traded out of the late first round to 2.03 and was wondering your thoughts on these players.

A. Benn

M. Williams (TB)

D. McCluster

With IDP in the mix and a few FA's, I think any or all of these may fall to me. My team is pretty solid with no glaring needs, so I don't need a contributor this year. What order would you put these in or would you go a different direction.

Thanks

I would like to hear your thoughts on how you rank certain running backs who are backups to fantasy studs on teams with very solid offensive lines/running games. Not RBBC or crowded backfield situations, but rather guys who are an injury away from a feature back situation that you could draft in the late rounds.

Toby Gerhart - MIN

Javon Ringer - TEN

Bernard Scott - CIN

Willis McGahee - BAL

Rashad Jennings - JAC

Glen Coffee - SF

Tashard Choice - DAL

I'm sure that I am missing a few guys and some of these guys will still get carries without an injury to the starter, so feel free to add in anyone and tier them in terms of how valuable they are as stash worthy lottery tickets. If you feel that any of these guys won't be feature backs if there is an injury discuss that as well.

Certain nuances linger around these situations and I hope you can give your take on some things:

Tashard Choice sort of needs 2 injuries to be a featured back, but he still has value so where does he fit amongst this group?

How do you factor in Anthony Dixon in SF?

If MJD goes down is Rashard Jennings good enough to make plays assuming that his offensive line is probably a step below most of the other teams listed and MJD just makes up for that fact with his talent?

What chance does Bernard Scott have of taking the starting job outright without an injury?

Love the Show

12 Team (Very Competitive) PPR Partial Keeper League (1 qb, 2 rb, 3 wr, 1 te, 1 flex (rb,wr,te), 1 D/ST, 1 K)

My Keepers: Chris Johnson (rd 9 value), P Garcon (rd 12 value), and Felix Jones (rd 5 value)

I have the # 3 draft pick this year so will get to chose between AP, MJD, and Rice who are not eligible keepers this year. With the roster above would you pick another uber rb to go along with CJ/Felix and be weaker at WR or should I pick AJ. My concern is that if I pick a RB, my WR 1 at pick 22 would likely be MSW, Ocho, maybe Boldin/Nicks.

What strategy do you recommend for an ANARCHY League (or similar)? I already had my ANARCHY League 5 draft - first time participant - so I'm curious to hear your thoughts.

The enigma that is the possible WR's I'll be faced with picking!

I'm in a 4 player keeper league with 10 teams. Its a PPR league with 1 point every 10 yards receiving/ rushing. I'm lucky enough to have Rodgers, AP, Ray Rice and Calvin Johnson as my 4 keepers.

It's a snake style draft and my first pick isn't until #14 overall with another at 16. I'm looking to address the WR position and after looking at who I think would be available I can't come up with anyone who stands out.

Give me your top 3 out of the following WR's:

Ward

Harvin

Simms-walker

Nicks

Maclin

Santana Moss

Knox/Hester

Crabtree

Santonio Holmes/Vincent Jackson

I'm leaning toward Simms-Walker with my first pick since he appears to be the clear cut #1 there, in a contract year and hopefully he can build off of last season. What do you guys think?

Thanks!

Wondering what you guys were thinking of this draft strategy with the #1pick

RB

WR

WR

WR

WR

QB

QB

QB

QB

Than harvest for #2RB from the likes of Donald Brown, Ahmad Bradshaw, Chester Taylor etc (Basically RB's in the 30-50 range)

Starting lineup

2QB, 3WR, 2RB, 1RB/WR, 1 TE, 1K, 1 DEF

6 pts all TD's

1 pt per 10 yards rush/receiving

0.5ppr

1pt per 25 yards passing

1pt per 20 return yards

I am thinking I can field a lineup as follows

Chris Johnson

Miles Austin

Rody White

Wes Welker

Mike Crabtree

D McNabb

C Palmer

2 other QB's to pair with the above

Than harvest for talent at the RB2 position.

What do you think of this strategy?

Hey guys...great show,

I have a draft this weekend for a standard scoring 12 team league that starts 1 QB, 1 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE and one flex (non-QB). I won't know my draft slot until draft time.

Thanks to less than knowledgeable owners and of course my Footballguys subscription I have been very strong in this league and gotten paid the last couple of years.

Due to the level of competition and the fact that I only need to start one RB, I am think about ignoring RB (unless I can grab a top 4/5 one in the first round) for the first four rounds and load up elseware and bank on grabbing an emerging running back by drafting 4 in the middle rounds (e.g. bradshaw, bush, etc.)

Thoughts?

Thanks guys!

how bad would i be putting the screws to my team if i didnt draft a RB until round 5 ?

(standard scoring - 8th pick - snake - NO flex, start 2 RB's & 3 WR's - non keeper)

this is what/how i project i would attempt:

round#1 WR-R.Moss

round#2 QB-P.Manning

round#3 WR-G.Jennings (unless M.Austin falls)

round#4 TE-D.Clark

round#5 RB-M.Barber

round#6 RB-J.Best

round#7 RB-C.Portis

(then best available the rest of the way)

I 2nd this question.......I was already intrigued by the idea of waiting until round 5 or 6 to draft my 1st RB this year and Waldman's "The Upside Down Strategy" has me seriously intrigued and ready to fire off a new strategy (at least for me). The other possibility would be the Polar Opposite, which would be drafting as many impact players regardless of position or bye week.I think I used to be in a rut and had the mindset like I was at the deli in the grocery store........my number would be called and I would take the player I was "supposed to" at that spot. This year I'm shaking it up because although I've been able to produce solid teams, there is always 1 or 2 teams that incorporate risk during the draft and they always seem to have the edge.Thoughts? Thanks, E

I have a 2nd question that involves draft strategy also......

I'm in a local 9 team league the requires each owner to start 3 QB, 3 RB, 3 WR, 2 Flex (TE, WR, RB), 1 K, and 1 Def

Scoring is extremely basic: 6 point touchdowns, 1 pt per 20 yds

What's the proper way to attack this league? I was thinking 2 solid qb's early, followed by a stable of RB's.......finish out the draft by selecting WR's and my last QB spot. (WR's seem to be a dime a dozen....can play weekly match-ups)

Thanks

You didn't mention the number of teams in your league...but if it's 12, Best will be long gone by round 6.

Let's talk Eddie Royal...probably the most frustrating player for me to get a handle on. Will he actually be a part of the offense this year?

I'd also like to hear your views on 2 of my personal favorites this year...Pierre Garcon and Jacoby Jones.

Carry on.

Please clarify the NE TE's. I read conflicting reports as to who iwill be the lead pass catcher - Gronkowski or Hernandez. Thx.

I second this. I'm trying to fill out my dynasty roster in a non PPR league and have to decide on guys like:Jacoby JonesJabar GaffneyDevin ThomasLance MooreBrandon TateSome of them have to have upside THIS year and some next year. Am I right in thinking the most upside THIS year is Gaffney, then Moore, then Jones/Thomas with Tate chipping in as soon as next year (significantly, that is)

First time post; listen to all the podcasts (fills my whole day washing windows over the summer)

QUESTION:

I'm wondering where you both draw the line on drafting RBs in the first round. With the 12th pick in a 12 team league, if Dwill is not out there I'm not sure I feel confident in drafting Mendenhall Matthews Greene or CedBen there at picks 12 and 13. QB's have a higher value in my league this year, and my league is also a half point PPR. Would a QB and WR be crazy with such a long wait until picks 36 and 37 come back for an RB or two?

THANK YOU.

Bloom just finished talking up Barber.... If you had the 12th pick in a 12 team league, would you consider going back to back Felix Jones and Marion Barber at picks 60 & 61? Would they make it? 36 & 37 is probably too early right?

Jones ceiling is almost as high as Gaffney's and Moore's. Thomas is looking bad in camp. Tate, wait til '11, but some big plays in his near future, just not a regular part of the pass offense... yet.

Amazing work guys. You make my commute to work each day actually enjoyable. Our league is a little different for the following reason - we limit the number of starts each player can have in a season. Our regular season is 11 weeks and our playoffs run from week 12-16. Once a player runs out of starts he cannot be used again.QB - we draft 3 and each has 8 startsRB - we draft 4 and each has 10 startsWR - we draft 5 and each has 9 startsTE - we draft 3 and each has 7 startsWe also flex RB/WR where you can start 3 of one and 1 of the other or 2-2 and its a PPR league. Obviously this format makes depth more important but I was wondering what you guys felt about the following:1) How would this format change your draft strategy?2) Is QBBC still a good strategy?3) Do any positions jump up in importance compared to standard leagues? Thanks so much.
It makes studs a little less important because you can carry backups/committee backs and cherry pick good weeks, try to save the studs for the playoffs. Depth becomes more important.QBBC is absolutely the way to go, playing matchups along the way. the value of the stud QB is the set it and forget it production, cant do that in this league.WR probably becomes a little more important because you cant just count on stealing starts from backup/RBBC guys who get opportunity b/c of injury at WR. QB and TE it looks like you can have covered from your initial draft crop.

dont like taking both parts of a RBBC- it insures one pick will be a dud. if you feel the need to injury handcuff to MB3, take Choice 8-10 rounds later.
