Welcome back?

Can I get an 'Ohh Technology'?

I can't recall this being addressed much, if at all: Every year and in virtually every draft I have a good feeling for what type of team I'll end up with. I tend to enter a draft knowing which position I'll plan to be WEAK at. It's usually the QB position and to some degree the RB2 position. What's your take on intentionally drafting strong at certain postitions knowing or accepting that you'll be weak at another. Knowing this, I'll have a plan to address that weakness.

Perhaps some listeners should consider this option or fact.

X-mas is finally here.

Out...

Where do you see the "tiers" in this years rookie draft? I have the 6 pick in a 12 team non-por league. Is there a major drop-off trading down to say the 8-10 picks?

Also, where should goodson and ringer be going in rookie drafts?

Thanks

What are your projections for Reggie Bush?

How would you have him stacking up vs. Ray Rice, Darren McFadden, and Knowshon Moreno in a traditional non ppr?

Hey Guys!

Great, great stuff -- every week and never weak!

1. I have a 2-man keeper league draft this weekend. 12 teams, 6-pt TDs, standard scoring with partial PPR (1 pt for every 3 receptions). My keepers are Steve Slaton for a 10th round pick and DeSean Jackson for a 9th round pick. I threw Brian Westbrook back into the FA pool (he would have cost me my 1st) and Marques Colston, too, who would have cost me my 2nd. I draft from the third position and will be able to land one of the following: Fitzgerald, Andre Johnson, or Westbrook again. What would you do? If both WRs go ahead of me, would you take Westbrook over Peyton Manning? (Brees, Brady, Rivers and Rogers are all being kept). I'm looking for value at RB in the middle rounds, and with Slaton, DeS. Jackson, and one of the stud WRs in place is Manning preferable?

2. Assuming they both do at some point this season, is James Davis more or less likely to take over in CLE before Donald Brown does in IND?

3. What do you think is the best waiver policy? We're going round and round in one of my leagues about an open FCFS waiver period between the end of the fantasy draft and the opening kickoff of the season (right now rosters are locked except for trades). When there is a fair amount of time between a draft and week 1 games, what waiver policy do believe is best?

Thanks as always,

The Riv

I have a Chris Johnson question. There has been a good Forum discussion regarding Ringer and his potential to take carries away from CJ in light of his preseason production. I don't see Ringer taking touches from CJ if he is productive. What is your impression of how he has conducted himself since the end of last season? Are you getting the impression that he is working as hard as he did last year when he had a lot to prove as a rookie? Do you think he has the mental aspect of the "IT" factor?

Thanks as always...

Strategy for a 16 round, 16 team league drafting 16th - snake draft. FBG PPR scoring non IDP (too bad picking from the 16th spot). I usually wait on TE and QB trying to find the sweet spot but I'm leaning to picking a stud whenever he is available and to fill in with my later picks as best I can. I started off RB - Gore 1.16 and followed it up with a WR Jennings at 2.01. I'm thinking about Witten at the turn and Best RB/WR available. Maybe get a TE run going and leave some talent for me on my next turn. Any other thoughts other than Cecil going off on the value of auction leagues...

Looking forward to listening in and helping the cause on Saturday night.

Thanks and keep up the great work!

Love the show fellas. Got a few questions for ya here...

There are some Rumors floating around that Walter Jones might miss some serious time this season. If true, how does this alter the Seahawks players (Hass, Housh, Carlson, J.Jones) in your rankings?

The Chiefs just added two new Offensive linemen this week after a trade with Miami. Early word is that both have a decent chance to be starters. Does this make you more opimistic in regards to LJ's Production this season?

Now that Sanchez has been named the starter in NY, how do you guys feel about Cotchery and Keller this year?

Thanks again...Have a good one.

Hey Guys,

My question is on B-West Value. I understand that injuries and age drop a players ranking, as does bringing in Shady. But how is it that Westbrook is falling to the middle to late second round? The guy is a warrior and will be ready to go week one.

I think the likes of Chris Johnson and Steve Slaton instead of Westbrook as a first round pick are risker picks.

One element of my successful leagues has been somehow managing to stay 1 week or 2 ahead of the competition on waiver wire pick ups. Who are the players and situations that we should be looking at in 2009 to be in front of the mad dash when it become obvious that this player should be on your squad?

I wanted to try my Rookie PPR RB question again...I have been listening to all the pre-season watch lists (and reading Waldman's stuff), but alot has happened in the last week or so to change the value of some of these guys.

1. Can you tell me, for a limited keeper-type league, where you are looking for value in the next 1-2 years, what RBs do you like best for a PPR league, in terms of Talent and Situation? Do you like any of these guys better in Dynasty?

G. Coffee SF

Mike Goodson CAR

R. Jennings JAX

James Davis CLE

Bernard Scott CIN

Gartrell Johnson SD

J. Ringer TEN

2. Also, what are your thoughts on the values of Dom Rhodes in BUF and Peyton Hillis in DEN? Do you rank these guys higher than Mi Bush, T. Choice, A. Bradshaw, L Washington, or T. Hightower in terms of later round guys with upside if opportunity presents itself?

Whats going on guys

How important is it to get one of the top Qb's in a standard ppr 6 point per passing touchdown league? Do you guys think you have to have one of the top 5 or 6 Qb's in the 6 point leagues?I guess what I am trying to say is you guys have talked a lot about Carson Palmer this year and his value for where he is being drafted. Would you feel the same about him in a 6 point league as you would a 4 point league.

Thanks guys

What is the latest news on Jammal Brown's hernia?

What would you do if someone in your league drafted Chad Ochocinco and wanted him to be eligible to start as a K?

What do you think of the idea of a team using a player like Ochocinco for extra points and developing an aggressive 2pt conversion package from it? I just don't see it as being very hard mentally or physically for a world class athlete to kick extra points, and a package that puts that kind of pressure on teams would be sort of a wildcat phenomenon. How do you think the Xs and Os would evolve from a game theory standpoint?

Ok so let's say hypothetically that you're in the 10th draft spot of a dynasty league and you have to choose between Michael Crabtree and J Davis or Macklin. Who ya got?

Are you guys starting tho think he might actually sit out the season even though you said all along that he wouldn't? I'm terrified that Crabtree is actually dumb enough to actually sit out the year and I'll have to deal with him on my bench.

What up fellas!!!

What is your opinion on the recent news out of Tampa / NOS and a possible RBBC with 3 guys in the mix? Do you believe Morris is actually going to be able to pull off this 2/2/1 rotation amongst Ward, Caddy and Graham? Doesn't seem like any back could get into the flow of the game under those circumstances. Would you drop any of the three down in your rankings (not that Caddy was on them in the first place)? Same questions for NOS though my personal belief is that Bell is preseason hype and an average fill in guy at best. Pierre has shown he can deliver the goods right? Is this just coachspeak and good news for owners wanting to draft Thomas in the 3rd as he may slip a bit further or should we be a little gun shy about Thomas now?

Thanks!!!!

Hey guys,

My draft in this weekend in an 12 team keeper league in which QB's get 5 pts./TD and -5 pts./INT. I am going with Matt Schaub as my starter which I feel pretty good about but I also know I need a good insurance policy behind him. Could you guys address:

1. Your prospects for Schaub this year. Will he crack the top 5?

2. Who should I target to back him up? Who might be a solid QB2 that might sneak into the top 12? These guys will be available in our draft:

Trent Edwards

Chad Pennington

Joe Flacco

David Garrard

Kyle Orton

Brett Favre

Jake Delhomme

Mark Bulger

Thanks and keep up the GREAT WORK! I am more ready than I've even been for draft day thanks to footballguys.com

Hey guys!

What are your opinions on Patriots QB/WR Julian Edelman? If Welker were to go down to injury, would Edelman step right in as the slot receiver in the offense, or maybe even as a starter? I was fairly impressed by his performance in the first preseason game against Philadelphia.

I recently rostered him in my dynasty league - is he worth hanging on to or not?

Thanks fellas, and I can't wait to listen to the 12 hour marathon at the weekend, because you can never have enough of FBG goodness.

Hypothetical:

Let's say you drafted Marshawn Lynch but then boneheadedly missed out on scooping Fred Jackson. Who are some under the radar options for a decent RB start the first three weeks of the season?

Thanks,

BusMan

Could you please discuss Kevin Smith. I think he is one of those backs that could put up 8-10 TDs and close to 1,100 yards so why is there so little talk about this guy?

Hey Fellas-

In my primary keeper league, I'm considering any and all options for trade. One of them is the unthinkable - trading Adrian Peterson. But, I'm not sure it's that insane. With Harvin in the mix, Peterson will potentially be splitting more carries. And I think the Vikings will be a bit more balanced now that Favre is there and AP doesn't factor as much into the passing game as other top backs. I think his targets could drop by 10% or more.

Here is my current roster:

QB: Brees, Hill

RB: AP, Dwill, Rice, C. Taylor, E. Graham

WR: Bowe, Cotchery, A. Bryant, E. Bennett, Harvin

TE: Olsen, Shiancoe

K: Gould

DST: Packers

Standard league scoring with 6 points for each rushing and receiving TD and 1 point for every ten yards rushing and receiving. We can keep three players next year with a limit of 2 keepers per position.

The question is what would you take in trade for Adrian Peterson (if anything)? Most owners, in all leagues other than PPR, consider AP to be the consensus top back. I'm thinking the only way I do a trade is to get another top 5 back and a top 10 WR to shore up my receiving corp. Realistic combos based on other rosters in the league would include:

Forte and Colston

Jones-Drew and Ochocinco

Steven Jackson and Reggie Wayne

I'm thinking Forte and Colston would be my best bet. Is this a classic case of over thinking? Should I stay pat or pull the trigger?

Hi Guys

I am in a 12 league, auction keeper league and following up on your auction special am looking for auction draft advice. The lineups are Starters: 1 QB, 2RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 RB/WR/TE, 1 PK, 1 D. 7 bench slots. Scoring is .5 PPR., 5 points passing Tds, 6 point catching/running Tds, 1 point per 20 passing yards. -2 ints. $200.00 cap, with a $1.0 min.

The keepers are a hybrid system. Can be kept the first year for draft amount + $5.00. Can be kept the second year for previous amount + $10. Also a choice must be made the second year as to whether you want to keep them a third year also for previous year +$10.00, which is the last year they can be kept, or they may not be kept the third year. The result of this is that unfortunately many of the great players are gone.

This year I am keeping QB: Romo, RB: ADP, and P. Thomas. WR: R. White. This will eat $85.00 of my money, leaving $115.00 left.

among the remaining potential stud Rbs left in the pool are: Steven Jackson, LT, Frank Gore, Westbrook, and Portis.

among the second tier Rbs left in the pool are: Portis, T. Jones, Knoshon Moreno, Donald Brown, J. Addai, W. Parker and L. Johnson.

Later Rbs left in the pool are: Jonathon Stewart, Fred Taylor, Chester Taylor and Chris Wells.

Among the upside sleepers left in the pool are: LeRon McClain, Le Shawn McCoy, michael bush, Ladell Betts, and Kevin Jones.

* * *

Top 15 WR left in the pool are: TO and OchoCinco.

Top 20 WR left are; Donny Avery.

Top 30 WR left are: Santana Moss, vincent Jackson, Hines Ward, Roy Williams, Brandon Marshall, jericho cotchery, Josh Morgan, Bernard Berrian, Lee Evans,

* * *

Top 10 TE left are: Antonio Gates, Dallas Clark, Chris Cooley, Greg Olson, Zack Miller, and John Carlson,

***

mid round Qbs left are T. Edwards, Carson Palmer and David Garrard.

Question:

I am torn as to how to approach the remaining draft. The keepers have cost the remaining players go for more than they are worth. Although given the .5 ppr, and I have two good Rbs given the lack of WR studs left, I am tempted to go after one of the Top Rbs, as there are not many of those 3-4 round Rbs left you have been talking about. I think I could get Steven Jackson, LT, or Gore for from $45-62.

If I did this, perhaps I would probably not be in the running for TO or Ocho Cinco. If I could not get them, then maybe I would consider going after a strong TE like Dallas Clark or Greg Olson. Then I would fill the rest of the roster will upside bench.

Do you think the grab another Stud RB is a smart choice, or should i hoard my money and go after TO or Ocho Cinco to accompany Roddy White? I am not sure Donnie Avery, or Moss, Jackson or Ward are strong enough for a WR2. Your advice as whether to go for another Stud RB and WR which will likely cost a lot or to try to hoard upside players that cost less.

Thank you - you guys are awesome

Casca

Curious as to which 4 or 5 "senior" WRs you think will perform the best this year in a PPR league between this group-

Mason

Driver

Bruce

Branch

Holt

Curtis

Moose

Chambers

A Tale of Two Running Backs:

In the preseason magazines Ray Rice and Rashard Mendenhall were ranked about the same. Now, in recent mock drafts I've seen Rice regularly going in the 4th round while Mendendhall's stock has dropped him into the 10th round. Have we really seen enough from each so far to justify these divergent rankings?

Hi guys, believe me, I'll be there on Sat. 8/29 for the epic broadcast. It sounds like it will be awesome. Take care of those throats.

I play in a 12-team, non-ppr, NON-SNAKING keeper draft where you can keep up to three. I pick 10th in every round. My keepers are Chris Johnson with my seventh pick and Kurt Warner with my sixth pick. Between the keepers and picking 10th every round there is little chance of me building a dominant roster. My only chance is to do something drastic. I'm considering drafting only one running back in the first seven rounds, and as late as possible, and then getting a committee backfield in the later rounds(Earnest Graham, for instance, is available late). That would allow me to possibly have a top 3 WR, either Witten or Gonzalez at TE, either Colston, Housh, Ocho, Deshean Jackson, or someone comparable at WR2 and either Baltimore or Pittsburgh at DEF.

What makes the strategy seem legitimate is what I saw in Baltimore's last preseason game, and here is my question. Given that roster I could probably draft, would taking Ray Rice in the fifth or even fourth round as my RB2 be completely crazy(we basically have two rounds of players being kept, so getting him in the fourth round is really like getting him in the sixth round). That would be close to guys like Marshawn Lynch, Derrick Ward, Joseph Addai and Reggie Bush. Here's my reasoning: Cam Cameron is Baltimore's offensive coordinator and he made LT and Ronnie Brown into studs when he coached them, Baltimore is a running team with a dominant defense, it appears to me that Le'Ron McClain is indeed the fullback and Ray Rice is the bellcow and goalline back(at least he was in their last preseason game), and Baltimore has a relatively easy schedule.

So can Ray Rice be a legitimate No 2 RB this year on my team behind Chris Johnson, even to the point of reaching a bit for him and not taking a more proven commodity? He sort of feels like this year's Michael Turner to me, although I don't expect those kind of numbers.

Just signed up for a new league with non-standard rules. To keep this simple, I've listed the important quirks below. Would love to get your thoughts on how this would adjust strategy and rankings from a 12-team, standard-scoring league.

1. Scoring: All TDs are worth 60 points. Bonus of 1 point per yard for (a) over 325 pass/rush for QBs, (b) over 90 rush/receive yard for RBs, © over 75 rush/receive yards for WR, and (d) over 40 rush/rec yards for TE.

I've looked back at past history and the yardage bonuses seem to be minimal. There seem to be a few players in each position that dominate the others, and that dominance is based on significant TDs (like Turner and DWill last year).

FYI - start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 WR/RB, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 D

2. Includes NFL Playoffs: You can earn weekly payouts during the NFL playoffs. This payout is a small portion in addition to weekly payouts, H2H season winner payouts, and most points in each half of season.

3. 13th pick in 13 Team draft.

Keep on tweeting!

Thanks.

of the rookie WR's which 3 have the best opportunity to contribute this season and which WR offer the better longer term/dynasty players?

thanks

Love the show - I finally caught up with all of the team-focused podcasts and will enjoy this one live finally.

My question is that I'm going into a big money 10 team local league draft (standard scoring, 1 flex, non-PPR) where I know the owners loooove their RBs. I draft 9th.

My question is for rounds 5-8. I'm guessing that RBs will be flying off the board and plan to go for value, but am fearful of ending up with 2 RBs and 2 WRs in round 5, staring at the best options being WRs, QBs, TEs. At that point, do I dare just keep loading up at non-RB positions hoping that I can come back to the RBs in the later mid-rounds?

Thanks as always :goodposting:

Curious about the NO RB situation. What to make of Mike Bell. Sorry if this has been asked, I only skimmed through the previous posts.

Has glen coffee played well enough in the preseason to change your opinion about him?

you said that he owed half his signing bonus to andre smith, but coffee has played very well so far. has he played well enough to cut into frank gore's numbers. the 49ers beat writer is projecting a 17-6 split in carries.

thanks!

Who is this year's Steve Slaton? Any position....a rookie/young player that really comes on to be top 5 or 10 player at his position that had can be had cheap or late in drafts.

Got time? mention one or two per position

QB, RB, WR, TE

0.5pt ppr vs 1pt ppr

How much of difference will half points ppr make on your rankings? Thus affecting your draft strategy.

Thanks.

I'm in a league that is very QB friendly, 6pt TDs, length bonuses, Bonuses for passing over 250 yards, rushing/receiving over 100 yards. Will watch 4 qb's typically go in the 1st three rounds historically in my league. I have the 3 spot out of 10 teams, am I crazy for thinking Brady or Brees here assuming Peterson, and MJD are gone in the first 2 picks. Would you risk taking a couple of WR's at the turn (Wayne, Jennings) and rolling the dice in later rounds with McFadden/Larry Johnson/Moreno types? Draft Dominator seems to play out very favorably with the above strategy.

You've got to know the tricks. I downloaded it as soon as they finished recording at about 11:00pm central last night. Go to the link at the top of this thread and you get to the live broadcast page. Then hit download from there and it will go into you iTunes music library. Trying to do it from iTunes podcasts always takes longer.

In a 6 PPPass TD I would consider Brady a first rounder, and Manning and Brees 2nd rounders, Rodgers a 3rd, and Warner/Rivers/Mcnabb 4th. If you can get Palmer in the 7th in a league like this, I would still roll with him as a #1, but I would be sure to get someone like Ryan/Hasselbeck/Schaub/Cutler/Garrard as my #2.

I like Parker and Addai as mid round picks when you wait on RB2. Both will begin the season as starter and give you time to cultivate more options from your bench and WW pickups. Jones and Johnson, I dont trust as much this year, but both will have 4-8 RB2 worthy games. Of the young bucks, I love Rice in a PPR, otherwise I wouldnt trust any of them as an RB2 to open the season.

Brown is almost certainly out for week 1, maybe longer. Wouldnt sweat it all that much because the Saints have a decent #2 and #3 at LT - Bushrod and Strief. No way you can start COC at K, just silly. If your star WR/QB/RB gets hurt kicking an XP, you'd never hear the end of it as a coach. Remember when Canseco blew out his arm pitching?
