Two Round Mock First round with commentary. (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
1. Oakland Raiders select – Calvin Johnson, WR – The Raiders take Johnson who in my opinion is the best prospect in this year’s draft.

***TRADE*** The Lions send the #2 overall pick to Minnesota for the #7 and #41 this year and a 2nd round pick next year.

2. Minnesota Vikings select – Adrian Peterson, RB – The Vikings decide that Peterson is indeed a special talent and make the move up to get in front of Cleveland to make sure they land him.

3. Cleveland Browns select – Brady Quinn, QB – Cleveland is more than happy to go against the grain and select Quinn over Russell which causes groans of displeasure from the dawg pound but could be the right choice.

***TRADE*** The Raiders send Calvin Johnson to the Tampa Bay Bucs in exchange for the 4th, 35th and 64th picks in this year’s draft.

4. Oakland Raiders select – JaMarcus Russell, QB – The Raiders take Russell and look for the future with Randy Moss. I don’t think he will get traded, Al Davis isn’t going to allow the team to admit they made a huge mistake in trading for him to begin with and pairing him with Russell may allow him to return to his old deep ball threat ways.

5. Arizona Cardinals select –Joe Thomas, OT – Matt Leinart and the rest of the Cardinals organization’s prayers are answered as the number 1 guy on their board makes it to them at pick 5.

6. Washington Redskins select – Amobi Okoye, DT – This kid smoked a doobie and admitted it but his potential is to hard to pass on.

7. Detroit Lions select – Gaines Adams, DE – The Lions save a ton of cap room, get the guy they wanted the whole time and a 2nd round this year and next.

8. Atlanta Falcons select – Levi Brown, OT – The Falcons spent a high 2nd round pick on Jimmy Williams last year and Levi Brown is a guy who SHOULD really help in a newly instituted power running game. I don’t expect Brown to be a LT in the league but has the potential to be a dominate RT.

9. Miami Dolphins select – Alan Branch, DT – They hate to see Brown go right in front of them but the Dolphins have a major need for a youth injection upfront on both sides of the ball and Branch gets the call.

10. Houston Texans select – Laron Landry, S – The Texans have a strong nucleus on defense and adding Landry makes it even better. Landry is one of the best players in this years draft in my opinion and the Texans need defense to compete in their division.

11. San Francisco 49er select – Adam Carriker, DL – While the 49ers really wanted to move up and select Calvin Johnson they just weren’t willing to give up enough to get it done. Carriker helps them all over the defensive line with his versatility.

12. Buffalo Bills select – Patrick Willis, MLB – This could be the easiest choice in the draft if he is available.

13. St. Louis Rams select – Joe Staley, OT – The Rams know the value of a franchise tackle and make a surprise move in taking Staley this high. Barron hasn’t established himself as a quality starter and Staley gives them insurance for Pace who at 32 YO may be wearing down.

14. Carolina Panthers select – Greg Olsen, TE – The standard pick for the panthers here.

15. Pittsburgh Steelers select – Ryan Kalil, C – In another surprising move the Steelers take Kalil in the mid first round. It is early for a center but Kalil grades out near Mangold and pro-bowl centers can really change an offensive line.

16. Green Bay Packers – select Dewayne Bowe, WR – Bad news Brett, Randy is staying in Oakland. Bowe is a solid WR who has shown that he is willing to go over the middle and make tough catches.

17. Jacksonville Jags select – Lawrence Timmons, OLB – The Jags take Simmons in the search for a big time playmaker on defense.

18. Cincinnati Bengals select – Leon Hall, CB – The Bengals actually take a guy without a lot of character issues  .

19. Tennessee Titans select – Darrelle Revis, CB – Pac-Man “let it rain” Jones suspension creates to holes that the Titans have to fill at CB and KR, Revis should be a good addition in both places.

20. New York Giants select –. Marshawn Lynch, RB – A collective sigh from all Brandon Jacobs owners in the fantasy world. However this pick would be awesome for the Giants in real life.

21. Denver Broncos select – Jamaal Anderson, DE – The Broncos look to generate a serious pass rush with the addition of Anderson here. I really have a hard time projecting him this low as I think he should be gone quite a bit earlier.

22. Dallas Cowboys select – Ted Ginn Jr, WR/KR – As a Cowboys fan I hate this pick but it seems Jerry Jones wants to add a playmaker in a bad way and having Ginn fall into his lap will make him so happy that we may even see a jokeresque smile ala Jack Nicholson in Batman.

23. Kansas City Chiefs select – Robert Meachem, WR – The Chiefs leading receiver is Eddie Kennison, they must improve their WR corps.

24. New England Patriots select – Dewayne Jarrett, WR – Tom Brady has done amazing things considering what they have had at WR. I think Jarrett will be similar to Keyshawn in that while not the fastest WR he will work hard in all aspects of the game.

25. New York Jets select – Jarvis Moss, DE – The Jets add a big time potential pass rusher with Moss.

26. Philadelphia Eagles select – Brian Leonard, RB – Quiet whispers about Westbrooks future and the versatility of Leonard make this a solid pick for the Eagles.

27. New Orleans Saints select – Chris Houston, CB – Houston could be the best cover corner in the entire draft and is a great value/need pick for the Saints.

28. New England Patriots select – Aaron Ross, CB – Ross is a solid all-around corner that will fit nicely with the Patriots system.

29. Baltimore Ravens select- Anthony Spencer, DE/OLB – The Ravens lose all-around OLB stud Adalius Thomas and hope to get a similar player here with Spencer.

30. San Diego Chargers select- Justin Blalock, OG – LT gets a big guy up front and looks to continue his assault on the NFL record book.

31. Chicago Bears select - Paul Posluszny, OLB – I am not projecting a trade of Briggs but I think the Bears have the luxury of being able to address it just in case. Posluszny should be a solid contributor the minute he steps onto the field.

32. Indianapolis Colts select – Jon Beason, OLB – The Colts continue the trend of taking small linebackers and while lacking ideal height Beason should be able to cover a lot of ground which fits nicely in Dungy’s defense.

Round 2

1. Oakland Raiders select- Tony Ugoh, OT

2. Detroit Lions select – Trent Edwards, QB

3. Oakland Raiders select – Justin Harrell, DT

4. Cleveland Browns select – Reggie Nelson, S

5. Chicago Bears select – Ben Grubbs, OG

6. Arizona Cardinals select – Tim Crowder, DE

7. Atlanta Falcons select - Michael Griffin, S

8. Miami Dolphins – Eric Wright, CB

9. Detroit Lions select – David Harris, LB

10. San Francisco 49ers select – Steve Smith, WR

***TRADE*** Buffalo sends pick 2.11 and a 3rd round pick next year for Michael Turner.

11. San Diego Chargers select – Anthony Gonzalez, WR

12. Atlanta Falcons select - Victor Abiamiri, DE

13. Carolina Panthers select - DeMarcus Tyler, DT

14. Pittsburgh Steelers select – Arron Sears, OG

15. Green Bay Packers select – Antonio Pittman, RB

16. Jacksonville Jaguars select – Brandon Merriweather, S

17. Cincinnati Bengals select – Zach Miller, TE

18. Tennessee Titans select – Lorenzo Booker, RB

19. New York Giants select – Jason Hill, WR

20. Carolina Panthers select – Justin Durant, LB

21. Dallas Cowboys select - LaMarr Woodley, LB/DE

22. Kansas City Chiefs select – Marcus McCauley, CB

23. Seattle Seahawks select – Ben Patrick, TE

24. Denver Broncos select – Sidney Rice, WR

25. Philadelphia Eagles select – Buster Davis, LB

26. New Orleans Saints select – Craig Davis, WR

27. New York Jets select – Josh Wilson, CB

28. Miami Dolphins select – Drew Stanton, QB

29. Baltimore Ravens select – Mason Crosby, PK

30. San Diego Chargers select – Eric Weddle, S

31. New York Jets select – Quentin Moses, DE/OLB

32. Oakland Raiders select – Chris Henry, RB

I appreciate any feedback. I am sure I may have overlooked somebody.

As a Steeler fan, I wouldn't be upset with fixing the OL, but #15 seems a bit early for Kalil. It's not the first mock to have Kalil going in the mid first though.

So the according to you the Giants are going to take a RB in both the 1st and 2nd round? Excellent and well-thought out mock draft...
I messed up and swapped the Giants and Titans picks in round 2. Thanks for the feedback. Please send me a link to your mock. TIA.
Why should I? I don't respect your opinion so why would I want your feedback?
Who cares? Anyyone can do a mock draft, no matter how little sense it makes.I can say that the Giants will not take a RB and WR with their first 2 picks. They have much bigger needs than those 2 positions and there are better players respectively available at their positions of need.
RC I appreciate your feedback. I am in agreement with you that they have other needs mainly on the OL but I didn't think there was a player that represented good value for them at that position. Add in the fact that I don't think Jacobs is a guy that any coach should want as his primary ball carrier and I felt that Lynch was a nice fit and value there. If you are happy with the WRs that the Giants have right now well then I am sorry we just disagree completely. Jason Hill would be a nice complimentary WR to Burress as they are of a significantly different skill set.
First, I apologize for getting on your case. I actually don't really know anything about you, so I was out of line about not respecting your opinion. I guess your initial response just pissed me off. I didn't mean my response to it.I am not overly pleased with the Giants WRs, but I do think Moss still has plenty of potential. His rookie year was injury plagued so he didn't get on the field, but most WRs don't produce much in their rookie year anyway. A lot of people seem to be writing him off already and I think that is a mistake. Also, the Giants traded up to get him last year, so they have a good amount invested in him and I think they still believe in him. I know they aren't going to give up on him yet no matter how disappointing his rookie year was. The Giants really have a number of needs, and WR is among them, but that is a move for the future and for some depth. In the first 2 rounds I would like them to address the positions where they need new starters right now, such as CB, OT/OL, OLB and DT. There are very good players available at those positions, so I think they can not only address those needs, but also take the BPA in the first couple of rounds by taking players from those positions. This draft is very deep at WR, so I think they can find a solid developmental WR(s) on the 2nd day.

The Boyz drafting Ginn in the first is amusing, but it won't happen. The're looking for someone whom can play for a roster spot and start immediatly. Spencer or Meriweather at the 22 spot.

They'll draft a receiver in the 2nd or 3rd.

Has there ever been a big draft day trade between division rivals?

I think the Vikings like Peterson but not enough to give up extra draft picks for him. CJ of course would be another story.

Gosselin and two different Cowboy writers are mocking and/or talking this first pick being a WR.Who did you mean by Spears? I'm guessing Spencer, and I sure hope they don't do that. I do not think he can stand up at OLB. It just isn't his game. Greg Ellis surprised with his ability to do so, and maybe Spencer can, but it looks bad on film, imo. Also, it looks like there should be a few nice fits for the 3-4 throughout this draft, so I would rather see one of the top receivers first and one of the OLB converts later, but in the end I don't care. JJ says it will be two days of BaP regardless of position and that sounds great to me.By the way, was the slip on Spears perhaps due to the trade rumors? They may dump him for a pick and move up in this draft.

ARE YOU FREAKING SERIOUS?With a gaping hole at DT, the serious for a return man, and a shaky secondary, the Rams take an offensive tackle who wasn't even projected to even sniff the 1st round at the end of the season?

Even if the Jenkins trade happens I don't see how they pass on the top CB for a backup OT.

Regardless of Staley not being projected as a 1st round pick at the end of the season he has established himself as the #3 OT in this draft. Leon Hall could easily be the pick here.

I think it is a matter of taking the better player and not drafting based of of need. It wouldn't surprise me if there are a couple of teams that have Staley has a top 10 pick.

I haven't heard the Spears rumors, but as a Cowboys fan I hate the Ginn pick. I can't imagine them getting much for Spears.

29. Baltimore Ravens select – Mason Crosby, PK
:wall: If I'm not mistaken, the Ravens had the most accurate placekicker in the NFL last year (28/30 - 93%). Sure Stover is getting up there in years, but he still won't be 40 by the end of the year and the Anders(o/e)n boys have shown kickers can be productive well beyond that. The team can't afford to carry 2 kickers all year and Crosby would never make it to the practice squad without getting picked up by someone else, so it makes no sense for them to take Crosby here.

The first round

First the bad:

The Detroit/Minnesota trade is a mess.

There is a ZERO percent chance that the Vikings trade up, TO DETROIT, for Adrian Peterson. None. The Vikes wouldn't give up those picks for that player and the two intra-divisional teams would not make a trade like that.

I also believe the Browns would take Russell over Quinn.

Now the good.

Once it gets to 8, it really hits its stride. The only pick that I think is a whiff is Jacksonville's. The last position on defense that needs fixing is linebacker - nothing wrong with Ingram, Smith, and Peterson.

The Oakland/Tampa trade is not only plausible, at this point I think it's LIKELY. If you'd have switched Russell to Cleveland and then had Quinn going to Oakland, you'd have been closer, IMO.

Second round

San Diego wouldn't accept that trade.

If Detroit were able to come away with Adams/Edwards/Harris in the first three rounds, people might suspect that Millen had died and someone competent was running the show.

Nice effort pgreenfan. :hifive: Only three more days!!!

:hifive: I ripped the muscles in my bicep, doc prescribed Hydrocodone which kicked in when I was posting this.

:excited:  :lmao:

I listed Gosselin's mock in the other thread and he has the Cowboys taking a the Safety from Texas.

Found it: http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...howtopic=314741 (Griffin)

I meant Spencer. However, the Cowboys are dissapointed in Spears performance and it recently stuck his foot in his mouth with the comments about Bill Parcells. He will surely get some heat if he doesn't perform up to his expectations.

P.S.

Even JJones said that he could draft a WR in the 2nd or 3rd round because this class was very deep.

Some Q&A from his PC earlier this week.

Bill said he was very leery of drafting a WR in the 1st?
There are a couple positions, where if you're going to use the 1st, you want it to be an impact player. Safety? He needs to be a Roy Williams. He has to be someone that has something extra. Receiver is in that category. If we have the opportunity to get a player that I think is a "wow", is an impact, that's a given. Candidly, I'd like it on the offensive side of the ball. Do something to juice it up. 31 other clubs are probably looking at the same guy. With what we've got at RB, QB, TE, O-line we could draft an impact player at WR.
Do you need to address the receiver at some point?
The real reason to address WR is that that position is the one with the most depth. You can get a guy in the 2nd or 3rd round. You can do that then. We don't think that Terrell and Glenn won't be here next year. It's possible. Although Crayton isn't under contract past next year, that could change if he has the kinda year we want him to have. But you could get a WR, it might be the smart play, to get one in those late first day draft. But there's one WR that if you put the whole package together, he's probably the best one I've ever seen. But I don't want to pay that price. *laughs*
Meriweather, get a good look?
I do think he's a good player. Not scared off by him. Plus, he's an outstanding player. He's a unique player in that could play safety or slot corner. Pretty unique.

30. San Diego Chargers select- Justin Blalock, OG – LT gets a big guy up front and looks to continue his assault on the NFL record book.
In isolation, i like this pick for the Bolts (at least it's not another by-the-numbers plug-in-the-best-available-WR pick. But then I saw...
31. Chicago Bears select - Paul Posluszny, OLB
I doubt the Chargers would pass up Posluszny if he was there.

Bucs would love to have CJ fall to them @ #4 but no way they trade 4, 35, 64 to get him. If CJ not available I think they may trade down to get Landry even though no one else has mentioned this. They address D-line with two 2nd round picks. IMO

Nice job predicting the bold trades. HOWEVER, a WR is the LAST thing the Pats need. I predict that the Pats will come out of the first round with only one pick - whether they trade up, or trade out (a la Kyle Boller deal w/ Baltimore).Ross is certainly a possibility.

Thanks Big Tex. Sorry about the bicep, but congrats on the hydro.

I haven't felt this positive about a Cowboy draft since Jimmy left. I like the list of players they have supposedly shown interest in, and I like the approach they are taking. There's a just a few I think they should avoid, and Spencer is one. It's a pretty meaningless personal opinion in the end.

I will cry if DET passes on all of that DEF talent to take Trent Edwards. We already have a Trent Edwards on the team in Dan O.
:lmao: To leave Griffin, Harrell, Nelson, Wright, Merriweather, even McCauley on the board when you can get Kolb in the 3rd and not really have a drop-off would be VERY frustrating. :lmao: Of course for this reason I have every reason to believe the Lions will do just that.

I'm with you, I'm pretty giddy. Bowe name came up with Goose yesterday though, he mentioned Bowe and Griffin as possible at #22.Personally, I'd like to see Meriweather at that spot.

I would be very happy with Bowe or Meriweather as a Cowboys fan... Bowe in the first and Eric Wright in the second would make me :own3d: .

Exactly what I thought too, when I read it.I think Quinn would be the better fit for Oakland and this would certainly be a great way of getting him. Not sure if Tampa would give up so much of this year's draft picks though.

Agreed, but what we've seen from Crayton and the other young WRs I believe they will do just fine when TO and Glenn are gone. I'd take the best WR in the 2nd.
