1. Oakland Raiders select – Calvin Johnson, WR – The Raiders take Johnson who in my opinion is the best prospect in this year’s draft.
***TRADE*** The Lions send the #2 overall pick to Minnesota for the #7 and #41 this year and a 2nd round pick next year.
2. Minnesota Vikings select – Adrian Peterson, RB – The Vikings decide that Peterson is indeed a special talent and make the move up to get in front of Cleveland to make sure they land him.
3. Cleveland Browns select – Brady Quinn, QB – Cleveland is more than happy to go against the grain and select Quinn over Russell which causes groans of displeasure from the dawg pound but could be the right choice.
***TRADE*** The Raiders send Calvin Johnson to the Tampa Bay Bucs in exchange for the 4th, 35th and 64th picks in this year’s draft.
4. Oakland Raiders select – JaMarcus Russell, QB – The Raiders take Russell and look for the future with Randy Moss. I don’t think he will get traded, Al Davis isn’t going to allow the team to admit they made a huge mistake in trading for him to begin with and pairing him with Russell may allow him to return to his old deep ball threat ways.
5. Arizona Cardinals select –Joe Thomas, OT – Matt Leinart and the rest of the Cardinals organization’s prayers are answered as the number 1 guy on their board makes it to them at pick 5.
6. Washington Redskins select – Amobi Okoye, DT – This kid smoked a doobie and admitted it but his potential is to hard to pass on.
7. Detroit Lions select – Gaines Adams, DE – The Lions save a ton of cap room, get the guy they wanted the whole time and a 2nd round this year and next.
8. Atlanta Falcons select – Levi Brown, OT – The Falcons spent a high 2nd round pick on Jimmy Williams last year and Levi Brown is a guy who SHOULD really help in a newly instituted power running game. I don’t expect Brown to be a LT in the league but has the potential to be a dominate RT.
9. Miami Dolphins select – Alan Branch, DT – They hate to see Brown go right in front of them but the Dolphins have a major need for a youth injection upfront on both sides of the ball and Branch gets the call.
10. Houston Texans select – Laron Landry, S – The Texans have a strong nucleus on defense and adding Landry makes it even better. Landry is one of the best players in this years draft in my opinion and the Texans need defense to compete in their division.
11. San Francisco 49er select – Adam Carriker, DL – While the 49ers really wanted to move up and select Calvin Johnson they just weren’t willing to give up enough to get it done. Carriker helps them all over the defensive line with his versatility.
12. Buffalo Bills select – Patrick Willis, MLB – This could be the easiest choice in the draft if he is available.
13. St. Louis Rams select – Joe Staley, OT – The Rams know the value of a franchise tackle and make a surprise move in taking Staley this high. Barron hasn’t established himself as a quality starter and Staley gives them insurance for Pace who at 32 YO may be wearing down.
14. Carolina Panthers select – Greg Olsen, TE – The standard pick for the panthers here.
15. Pittsburgh Steelers select – Ryan Kalil, C – In another surprising move the Steelers take Kalil in the mid first round. It is early for a center but Kalil grades out near Mangold and pro-bowl centers can really change an offensive line.
16. Green Bay Packers – select Dewayne Bowe, WR – Bad news Brett, Randy is staying in Oakland. Bowe is a solid WR who has shown that he is willing to go over the middle and make tough catches.
17. Jacksonville Jags select – Lawrence Timmons, OLB – The Jags take Simmons in the search for a big time playmaker on defense.
18. Cincinnati Bengals select – Leon Hall, CB – The Bengals actually take a guy without a lot of character issues
.
19. Tennessee Titans select – Darrelle Revis, CB – Pac-Man “let it rain” Jones suspension creates to holes that the Titans have to fill at CB and KR, Revis should be a good addition in both places.
20. New York Giants select –. Marshawn Lynch, RB – A collective sigh from all Brandon Jacobs owners in the fantasy world. However this pick would be awesome for the Giants in real life.
21. Denver Broncos select – Jamaal Anderson, DE – The Broncos look to generate a serious pass rush with the addition of Anderson here. I really have a hard time projecting him this low as I think he should be gone quite a bit earlier.
22. Dallas Cowboys select – Ted Ginn Jr, WR/KR – As a Cowboys fan I hate this pick but it seems Jerry Jones wants to add a playmaker in a bad way and having Ginn fall into his lap will make him so happy that we may even see a jokeresque smile ala Jack Nicholson in Batman.
23. Kansas City Chiefs select – Robert Meachem, WR – The Chiefs leading receiver is Eddie Kennison, they must improve their WR corps.
24. New England Patriots select – Dewayne Jarrett, WR – Tom Brady has done amazing things considering what they have had at WR. I think Jarrett will be similar to Keyshawn in that while not the fastest WR he will work hard in all aspects of the game.
25. New York Jets select – Jarvis Moss, DE – The Jets add a big time potential pass rusher with Moss.
26. Philadelphia Eagles select – Brian Leonard, RB – Quiet whispers about Westbrooks future and the versatility of Leonard make this a solid pick for the Eagles.
27. New Orleans Saints select – Chris Houston, CB – Houston could be the best cover corner in the entire draft and is a great value/need pick for the Saints.
28. New England Patriots select – Aaron Ross, CB – Ross is a solid all-around corner that will fit nicely with the Patriots system.
29. Baltimore Ravens select- Anthony Spencer, DE/OLB – The Ravens lose all-around OLB stud Adalius Thomas and hope to get a similar player here with Spencer.
30. San Diego Chargers select- Justin Blalock, OG – LT gets a big guy up front and looks to continue his assault on the NFL record book.
31. Chicago Bears select - Paul Posluszny, OLB – I am not projecting a trade of Briggs but I think the Bears have the luxury of being able to address it just in case. Posluszny should be a solid contributor the minute he steps onto the field.
32. Indianapolis Colts select – Jon Beason, OLB – The Colts continue the trend of taking small linebackers and while lacking ideal height Beason should be able to cover a lot of ground which fits nicely in Dungy’s defense.
Round 2
1. Oakland Raiders select- Tony Ugoh, OT
2. Detroit Lions select – Trent Edwards, QB
3. Oakland Raiders select – Justin Harrell, DT
4. Cleveland Browns select – Reggie Nelson, S
5. Chicago Bears select – Ben Grubbs, OG
6. Arizona Cardinals select – Tim Crowder, DE
7. Atlanta Falcons select - Michael Griffin, S
8. Miami Dolphins – Eric Wright, CB
9. Detroit Lions select – David Harris, LB
10. San Francisco 49ers select – Steve Smith, WR
***TRADE*** Buffalo sends pick 2.11 and a 3rd round pick next year for Michael Turner.
11. San Diego Chargers select – Anthony Gonzalez, WR
12. Atlanta Falcons select - Victor Abiamiri, DE
13. Carolina Panthers select - DeMarcus Tyler, DT
14. Pittsburgh Steelers select – Arron Sears, OG
15. Green Bay Packers select – Antonio Pittman, RB
16. Jacksonville Jaguars select – Brandon Merriweather, S
17. Cincinnati Bengals select – Zach Miller, TE
18. Tennessee Titans select – Lorenzo Booker, RB
19. New York Giants select – Jason Hill, WR
20. Carolina Panthers select – Justin Durant, LB
21. Dallas Cowboys select - LaMarr Woodley, LB/DE
22. Kansas City Chiefs select – Marcus McCauley, CB
23. Seattle Seahawks select – Ben Patrick, TE
24. Denver Broncos select – Sidney Rice, WR
25. Philadelphia Eagles select – Buster Davis, LB
26. New Orleans Saints select – Craig Davis, WR
27. New York Jets select – Josh Wilson, CB
28. Miami Dolphins select – Drew Stanton, QB
29. Baltimore Ravens select – Mason Crosby, PK
30. San Diego Chargers select – Eric Weddle, S
31. New York Jets select – Quentin Moses, DE/OLB
32. Oakland Raiders select – Chris Henry, RB
I appreciate any feedback. I am sure I may have overlooked somebody.
