Ty Law leaning towards New England? (1 Viewer)

According to WEEI. The Patriots are the frontrunners in signing Ty Law.

According to sources close to Law he is not getting the big offers he thought he was going to get. The Patriots had him in for a physical this week and told him they would love to have him back.

According to the report the Pat's told Law point blank if you can get a big guaranteed deal to do it because they weren't going to give him one. But the Patriots are said to be offering an incentive laden deal that would at least put Law in the ballpark of what he is looking for.

Also, it is said Law would prefer to stay in New England where he has family and friends. Plus a chance to go back to the Superbowl with the Patriots. It is said Law had a tough time playing on a losing team like the Jet's last season.

Ty Law would really tighten up the Patriots secondary.

Take it for what it's worth. I'm not saying this is fact. But this is the story WEEI went with today during The Big Show.

Several threads on this already. His agent says they are not even talking money yet and that there are still several teams interested.

That was a couple of days ago. Whether that has changed or not is probably unknown. The Pats usually operate below the radar screen so anything is possible here. One thing to keep in mind. The Pats have a large chunk of cap space. The Pats always spend to the cap. Therefore it makes a lot of sense that they will be adding a few more veterans. Looking at the free agent landscape there's not much out there besides Law that can get good money.

The key aspect to this story is where EEI is getting their info. The Pats are very tightlipped so it wouldn't surprise me if this coming from the Law camp. If that's the case this could merely be a ploy to have a team like KC or Tennessee panic and step up with a big offer. Ty loves his cash and that wouldn't surprise me.

As a Pats fan I really hope this is true. It's a great fit for both sides. Adding Law and a healthy Harrison to go with Hobbs, Samuel, Gay, Warfield, Wilson, Hawkins, Sanders, Scott and Jones would make for a very deep secondary with a nice mix of youth and veterans. I'm not going to get my hopes up but it is fun speculation.

I'd be shocked if Law wasn't starting at right cornerback for Kansas City. Chiefs general manager Carl Peterson has been in contact with Law's agent, Carl Poston, and head coach Herm Edwards also spoke with Law before last month's draft. When you factor in the Chiefs' surplus of cash (they have $9 million of cap space to play with), their refusal to draft a cornerback in the first round (they say they needed a pass-rusher like defensive end Tamba Hali more than they needed a young corner) and Law's dwindling options (how many teams can afford to accommodate his demands for a $10 million bonus?), that leaves Kansas City as the front-runner. Law may be talking with the Patriots and the Titans, but even his agent admits that Kansas City is in the best position to sign him.

The Pats still are $17M+ under the cap. That's almost twice what the Chiefs have.

Wouldn't matter if the Pats were $40+ mil under the cap. They're not going to ante up on the guaranteed side, according to the report.

The players / agents know the only real money in an NFL contract, is the guaranteed money.
