Under the radar: Kellen Clemens, QB Oregon (1 Viewer)

The Jets have decided Brick + Clemens > Lenart and the 49.

wow

Does this mean Pennington and Ramsey and seal the deal? Were the Jets that high on Clemens and not so much on Leinart and Cutler or so much on Brick?

Clemens has been moving around between 2-4 on my board for months. He was considered the top QB on the west coast coming out of high school and was in the middle of an absolutely huge year before getting hurt.

His skills translate well to the next level. Very nice pick by New York.

Clemens as QB4. Find me one site that had anything close to that ranking.
With all honesty, he was #3 on my latest rankings. I have him behind Leinart and Young, but ahead of Cutler.

Well, if you care to argue with Gil Brandt of NFL.com feel free. But, he has him as the #4 QB and I for one will take his evaluations of Kellen Clemons over yours any day. Here's a tidbit:

"Clemens may have the best combination of arm strength and mechanics of all the quarterbacks in this draft. He has outstanding leadership, good accuracy on rollouts and bootlegs, and is a very good competitor. So far, he has come back from the ankle injury more quickly than people had originally thought possible. I think he can run better when his ankle is 100 percent and be a very solid player."

Great pick!

Hey im glad someone had it. Im not saying he wont be the #4 QB from this draft, or didnt deserve to be #4, just that his rise was very late.

Just read some of his opinions. Sure looks like he uses the combine quite a bit in his rankings. Also, seems like Bloom is right a lot of the info(especially at the beginning) of each player was more current stuff than during the season.

Gil Brandt is more than "someone," he's the best in the business.

WTF were the jets thinking in the 3rd round? They took two guys that were likely 5th rounders while there are still possible impact All Americans on the board.

Im not happy. Mangni thinks he is belicheck or something. You need to win a few games before you start reaching for slow white guys that MIGHT make an impact on special teams.

Clemens really turned it on in the spread offense. Im not sure that they needed to trade up to get him.
I thought I heard Berman say the Jets moved up from #53 to #49 because Minnesota was prepared to select him. How he knows that, I don't know, but that what I heard. As a Jets fan, very impressed with how things went today, but man did Denver kick ### or what?

Who would you have liked them to pick?

well, obviously im not an expert. I would have taken stovald and either bing or simpson.(if they had to have a safety, which isnt really a need)

Hell, watson would have been a better pick than smith.

IMO, the 3rd round is far too early to reach for system guys. Take them on the 2nd day. schegal probably would have been there and smith definetly would have.

edit: im not nearly as mad about the schlegal pick. The guy has the ability to be a decent 3-4 ILB. However, smith is a joke. If you absolutly need a safety, which the jets didnt, why not take one with some upside? Bing has flaws, but he has more talent in his left pinkie toe than this smith guy has in his whole body.

As a Pac-10 guy, I saw my share of Clemens. I'm not confident of Clemens' ability to read a defense. He was a different player his senior year, but he's not athletic, does not possess great arm strength, does not throw with great accuracy, and looks like back-up fodder at best.

A decent enough player, but drafted way too high and his NFL impact will be minimal. He'll never be a good starter.
