Unearthing potential surprises from week 2 (1 Viewer)

Good article. I'm high on McCoy too. In a 2QB league, I'm hoping he's around in the 8-12 round area as my QB3 with big upside. Kind of like Bradford last year. I've always avoided Reggie. This might be the year to take the plunge since his ADP is around 7th round this year. He might finally be worth it.

I agree on Reggie Bush.

He looked great in recent action.

A lot of smaller backs like Bush don't find their stride until several years into their career. Tiki Barber, Ahmad Bradshaw to name a few.

Bush is a player to keep your eye on and is likely good value in PPRs right now.

I wasn't impressed with McCoy at all in the Detroit game. He couldn't move the offense at all. If it were not for a roughness penalty, his last TD drive would have been a 3 and out.

 Outstanding stuff as always. I wish you'd do more breakdowns of preseason action like this on your blog.

For anyone that hasn't bought the RSP go do it now. HERE! The info is gold!

Matt why don't you do a PPR ranking? Do you only do rankings here once a month or so?

I'm on board with Bush at his current ADP he looks a steal. With McCoy and Beck I'm sold on them as a late round flier QB3, maybe even waiting until late to take my QB2 if I have a top tier QB1. But as impressive as they have looked, I'm still not ready to consider either of them as anything other than a bye week/emergency fill in. Maybe that changes in the next two weeks, but for now I'll just keep an eye on them.

Great write up Matt,

Nice heads-up on Reggie Bush. Hope he finds some toughness in Miami, as Bush seemed to #####foot around in space or dance out of bounds instead of churn upfield for the hard earned yards. He's always had the talent, but never seemed to have the heart. I wasn't paying much attention to him this preseason, but now he's one to watch.

I love Colt McCoy's attitude. He's still young and he's bound to make a lot more mistakes in his second year, but I think he's got a lot of big plays in him too.

Just one thing I disagree with here. I don't see Douglas having a dent on Julio Jones's value. If anything, he draws defenders down low and opens up the deep routes. Douglass will continue to shine in preseason, but the game plan will shift back to Atlanta's 2 stud wideouts when the games are for real.

Reggie Bush really impressed me against the Panthers. His decisiveness in the hole was surprisingly efficient and he displayed the willingness to power forward for extra yardage. I think he will be a staple of Miami's offense especially with Henne's propensity to check down.

Matt, you have the lowest staff rookie ranking of Roy Helu - were you at all "surprised" by his week 2 performance?
I haven't seen enough of him to comment on Helu. Still think Hightower has this in the bag though. Saw enough of Helu in college to know he'll break some big runs, but I'm not a fan of his overall decision-making. We'll see if he can improve upon it consistently.

I update weekly, but I don't have time to do rankings for every league type. If so, I'd probably choose IDP again as well.

Thanks and we'll find out about Jones-Douglas. Will be fun to see.

I would be really curious to read what you think of his performance in that game. I was pleasantly surprised by his performance. Seemed more physical than I remember seeing him before. Also seemed like he held up even when he was crowded.

Bradshaw's YPC has gone down every year he's been in the league. If you meant to say that a lot of small backs don't get a full opportunity till several years into their career then that's one thing. That wouldn't apply to Bush though, given he got almost 250 touches a year for his first two years in the league.... a number he's NOT going to match in Miami this year. So, again, not sure what you're trying to say here.

Unearthing? Were they dead?I like your efforts, Matt. keep up the good work.
They were dead to me, yes ;)But they learned the two-inch punch, broke the casket, and climbed through the loose dirt.

I give credit to Reggie's recent performance, but I do wonder if this is all a bit of fool's gold. The OL isn't very good, he's always been a sub-4.0 between-the-tackles runner, and I doubt he can go four straight games of 15-20 touches without getting hurt. Yes he looked good, but I'm skeptical it lasts.

Matt , surprised no mention of Ridley out of New England. IMO he could end up as this years late round/ WW steal - played in the SEC on a good team and has looked like the best RB I have seen in NE since the Dillon days.

I'm still on the Harry Douglas late selection as late rd value
Matt,I know you were kinda down on Matt Ryan, one of the reasons being you felt like they were missing that last piece in the passing game to pressure the defense medium-deep. If Douglas is that guy, do you rethink Ryan's prospects?

A) YPC almost always goes down with increased carriesB) Smaller backs often, not always, take a few years before they can shoulder a full load...particularly with between the tackles carries.
