Unpopular Movie Opinions (1 Viewer)

I think this was done in the past but I figured the worst movies ever thread was getting clogged up with unworthy titles.

So post all your least favorite movies that are critically acclaimed by others.

For me, there's none worse than Avatar. Touted as one of the best films of the year and even nominated for picture of the year and yet it has a script ripped off from a children's movie with a smaller acting range.

Eta: We can also add unpopular likes as well. Critically panned movies that we happen to like (Indy Films that didn't open to a wide audience don't count).

Blade Runner for me.
I was the same way. I had never seen the movie and heard all the hype. First time watching it I was severely let down. I've since watched it about a dozen more times and I like the movie now. Not GOAT material but a good sci fi film.

Blade Runner for me.
That explains a lot. One of the best Sci-Fi films of all time, incredible soundtrack, probably Rutger Hauer's best work, possibly Darryl Hannah's best, Sean Young never looked better, Harrison Ford in his prime, and Ridley Scott directing.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but there is gonna be very little to support this as a bad movie or to back up your opinion. What is it about the movie you do not like? Maybe you didn't understand it, seriously.

The acting for Sci-Fi especially is top notch, it was groundbreaking in 1982, the public at large did not buy into the movie so you're not alone but it's hard to understand why folks don't like the movie. We build these things to have a short shelf life and they learn at an incredible rate and want to have immortality, very much the same as real humans.

I hated Avatar, appreciated some of the special effects but really did not like the movie. It felt so commercially driven.

Reading really is fundamental.

You nailed it...might want to go back and read the thread title.

You keep trying to 1 up me for some reason. You really should lay low on the "I'm smarter than you" pedestal, it's not working too well. If you read my post, I said everyone is entitled to an opinion and you try and frame my post like I have no idea what this thread is about. It's like the sky is blue and you keep saying it's some other color so I'll leave it at that and you can now get your last word in.

Blade Runner is a fantastic movie and critics were not wrong, in fact it goes to show how moronic most of the paying public is when it comes to films and such. You're not alone, you're like about 90% of the population out there...ignorant, classless, and lacking most critical thinking skills :) I have no problem being piled on in here, I wouldn't have it any other way, the alternative is to be like you and the rest of the idiots, I'll pass.

I agree with him. So that's three of us...

Another one I just don't get is Drive. I've seen people praising it as some masterpiece when its barely passable as a guy movie. After watching I thought people were sarcastically promoting it but no. People truely thought it was a great movie. I'll never understand that.

Citizen Kane was terrible. When it was over I couldn't believe people thought it was a great movie. I also really disliked 2001: A Space Odyssey; so much I didn't even finish it.

Same here. Half the movie was people standing around staring at each other.

:lmao: @ the reigning dumb**** champion.

Avatar's a good one. A great looking movie.....but the aliens annoyed me so much....by the end I was rooting for the humans.

Muholland Falls for me. I just don't get it.

Moonrise Kingdom. Its just not for me.

One for the unpopular likes would be Godfather 3.

This movie always gets destroyed by critics and some of it is substantiated. Poor choice as the daughter. No Robert Duvall. Questionable plot. However, I feel the criticism goes way over the top just because of how great GF 1 & 2 were. GF3 is a good movie. Just not a great one.

 one of my favorite movies.

I watched it once, loved it but didn't want to sit down again. What was interesting about the movie is the shoestring budget to get it made and also the style of the movie. The car chase scenes for example were shot using a lot of the old techniques we saw in films from 30 and 40 years ago before CGI killed everything. I think that's what people were keying in on. The opening scene where he is explaining what he does and the car/cops chase where he is ducking into the garage and slips the hat on to blend in with the crowd getting out of the Staples Center, that was something you might see back in a movie like the French Connection.

If you have seen a lot of movies and can pick up on directors paying homage to older films that inspired them it might change your opinion of the film. I thought the scene in the motel also was interesting because we really didn't know just yet what the Driver was capable of and suddenly we saw a very disturbing side that made for an interesting 2nd half of that film. Also Cranston, Brooks, and Perlman deliver the goods with their lines, those guys don't waste much time on projects that are lame. Incredible cast of talent for a small budget indie.

But I also understand why people didn't like it and the violence was short but quite rough for some folks.

I Just felt it got completely unbelievable after the motel. Like the guy they are looking for is driving the car they saw him get away in parked right out front of Nicos establishment and no one notices this? Seemed a bit ridiculous.

"Rounders" is a better Matt Damon movie than "Good Will Hunting".
100% agree, not a big fan of GWH.
With all the math involved in GWH.......
A Beautiful Mind is a superior film
There's an unpopular opinion.

IMDB rate both the same @ 8.2

Rotten Tomatoes loves GWH though (97% v 75%)

Metascore has it 72 / 70 in favor of A Beautiful Mind

A Beautiful Mind won 4 Oscars, GWH 2

I prefer a beautiful mind. But its one of those only watch once movies once the twist is revealed.

:goodposting:

What a terrible movie.

Also, The Kings Speech. Might be the most boring movie ever made.

I saw Raising Arizona when it came out and I couldn't stand it. Never given it another shot because I thought it was that bad.

Another unpopular like is Star wars Phantom Menace. Again not a great film but nearly as bad as people make it out to be.

Good or bad, they were doomed to be hated. Nothing was going to live up to the ridiculous Stars Wars hype.

Requiem For A Dream is a garbage movie. I always tell people there has to be some suspension of disbelief in movies but I thought it was ridiculous that someone wouldn't take money for drugs but would take a "show" and I also thought it was ridiculous that the guards would just let someone's arm go black and not send him a medical facility. No matter who that was would end up suing the prison and getting a lot of money. I guess I should have prefaced this by saying it has been a long time since seeing it but those were my gripes when I first watched it and haven't given it a second chance.

Did you watch the DVD or did you catch it on TV? It's probably the worst movie edit for TV I've ever seen. I like the movie but the TV editing completely killed it and made it borderline unwatchable for me.

The Departed was way overrated and was laughable as a Best Picture Oscar winner.

Ditto for Crash.
