Update On Cadillac For Week 8? (1 Viewer)

from thehuddle.com

Carnell Williams  - RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers  10/25/05

Doctors familiar with treating athlete's with foot injuries say that if ......
Nuff said. Pure speculation. From Caddy's quote last week, I'm not as concerned. “I’m definitely excited,” he said. “We’ll find out what goes on this week, but it should be full go. I should be ready to go, back to playing some football. I’m definitely looking forward to it.”
I believe him as well since he didn't hide his injury.

As a Caddy owner who desperately needs him to return this week, I have a bad feeling Gruden holds him out another week. Given that SF is starting Dorsey, I think the game is pretty much a gimme this week. Maybe Gruden rolls the dice and lets Caddy sit out one more week to heal so he is ready for the bigger games down the stretch. I guess we'll find out soon.

Regardless of the injury, I love this kids attitude. You ever see him pop back up after a run? He is ready to go immediately. He's just so excited to be playing. I think he'll have a great career.

Agreed - seems to be a big reason why Gruden has loved the guy since the Senior Bowl.

A Lisfranc injury is actually a fracture of a foot bone that leads to displacement of other foot bones.  If this is really his injury, he is going to be out for awhile (depending on severity of course). This has to heal properly or there could be long term damage.

I wonder if this is really his injury.
Certainly not out of the question, but, three weeks later, I think we'd know about it by now if that were the case.
I agree with you on this, from how serious this Lisfranc injury sounds, I'd think the Bucs would be oh so cautious with their new franchise rb and make him do absolutely nothing but heal.
And it is not like they are hurting at RB .... Pittman has really stepped up and done a superb job with the starts. Let him rest ... no pressure on him to start or on the team to get him back.

why can't they just declare this putz cadillac out for the year already and then all the savvy cadillac owners who also own pittman in redraft leagues can rest easy at night and not have to follow this soap opera any longer

Yep. Gruden cares about how smart you are, so he'll shut Caddy down.

I think if Gruden lets him hit the field, that'll mean he's close to 100%.
Especially vs. SF, where they shouldn't need him in order to win.
I think Gruden would be the first to say that no game is a gimme. With Simms in there and Gruden most likely wanting to estabish the run game, if Caddy is ready to go, he'll likely be in there.

Agreed. I think the Bucs win at SF, but this is not a gimme... I can definitely picture SF rebounding after their horrid performance last week and with Simms starting, you're correct, TB needs to establish the run game. And if SF is weak, this might give Caddy the opportunity to work out some kinks - if there are any

_Completely_ agree. TB is good but they are probably overrated at this point. SF is bad but they are probably underrated slightly. Dorsey will be more effective than Smith was or could be. Who knows what Simms will look like. Barlow and Gore are gaining momentum- Caddy and Pittman are banged up. If Tampa looks past this game they are making a mistake, the 9ers have bit some people this year for looking past them.

Simms vs Dorsey. Yikes. This could be a really bad game.

Bucs

Cadillac Looks 'Good', Still Questionable

Bucs running back Cadillac Williams is still on the team's injury report, listed as questionable for Sunday's game against San Francisco.

Coach Jon Gruden said Williams was able to ``do everything`` at Wednesday's practice and when asked whether Williams would be a game- time decision, Gruden was non-committal.

``He looked good today,'' Gruden said.

Williams has missed two games with a sprained arch in his left foot.

Just to add per KFFL:Buccaneers | Williams Practice, a Likely Game-Time Decision

Wed, 26 Oct 2005 13:21:21 -0700

Roy Cummings, of the Tampa Tribune, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Carnell Williams (foot) practiced Wednesday, Oct. 26 but remains listed as questionable due to a sprained left foot. Williams is confident he will play in Week 8, but he will likely be a game-time decision.

This should answer all questions. "Cadillac" will be playing...if the Bucs get up 20+ points than I would expect to see a lot of pittman in garbage time and that doesn't mean Pittman is garbage."Cadillac"...17-100-1

Pittman......15-70-1 + 3-30...

Game starts at 4PM so a GTD could really suck.
Good point - I forgot it was a 4PM game. Looks like if there's no info by 1PM, many of us will have to go Caddy-less and drive our own carts.

Im doing everything I can to get Pittman. This just seems like a very bad situation. The guy has rested for 3 straight weeks, has practiced on it numerous times, his coach keeps saying he should play, and he still hasnt gotten on the field. I think this injury is worse than we think.

Where do you see "Cadillac will be playing"? If you heard the audio it sounds MUCH more like Gruden said these things with a frustrated or pessimistic tone. Cadillac won't play much if at all. Why would they risk it against the 9'ers?

No one knows if he'll be playing. Maybe not even Gruden at this point. So what are you basing your factual statement that "Cadillac won't play much if at all" on????

The line in Red sounds pretty close. But it certainly leaves wiggle room. I don't think you can get either "will be playing" or "won't play much at all" from this.

He said that before.

He said that before.
Agreed - he did.If there is any silver lining, I suppose it is the fact that Caddy did seem to fully practice on Wednesday (today). In previous weeks, IIRC he didn't do too much early on, or was very limited in practice.

I think he practiced the whole week the week before the MIAMI game. Not sure if it was on a limited basis or not. Like I said I am VERY worried about this injury and am trying my hardest to get Pittman cuz hes a very capable fill in.

This week, I can do without him...next week I need him....so here's to hoping he gets plenty of rest on that foot and be good to go next week.

He just came off a bye week and was out for 2 games before that. What makes you think another week off means he's good to go the next week? I think this is something to worry about.

Buccaneers ready to ride Cadillac againBY CHRIS HARRYThe Orlando SentinelTAMPA, Fla. - The expression on Tampa Bay tailback Carnell Williams' face never changed as he approached his locker Wednesday. Not even when he saw a Michael Clayton jersey - circa LSU 2003 - waiting for him.Williams' alma mater, Auburn, lost in overtime Saturday to Clayton's alma mater, LSU. As such, Williams honored his part of a wager, sliding the jersey over his head."A deal's a deal," Williams said as he turned a faced a horde of TV cameras and tape recorders in the locker room. With that, the real-deal question was directed to Williams: Are you playing this week?"I definitely should be good to go," Williams said.Well, maybe. The week's first official injury report listed Williams as questionable for Sunday's game between the Bucs (5-1) and host San Francisco (1-5).Williams has been missing from the lineup since aggravating a sprained left foot in the third quarter of an Oct. 4 win against Detroit. After leading the NFL in rushing through the season's first games, Williams has been sidelined the past two."We expect him to play, to be honest with you," Coach Jon Gruden said.In the team's first in-pads workout in two weeks, Williams took part in nearly every drill."When we put the ball in his hands, he did fine," running backs coach Art Valero said. But more than that will go into the final decision, which may come down to game time. The Bucs definitely could use Williams' breakaway threat, especially with third-year quarterback Chris Simms making just the third start of his career."It's not like he's a 12-year veteran," Gruden said of Williams. "He has to get himself back into an every-down frame of mind. That's the kind of back we envision and that's the kind of back we want him to be_or else he won't be playing."Williams, who has rushed for 447 yards and two touchdowns, is tired of watching."I'm really anxious," Williams said. "I feel like I ain't played football in forever."

The FBG preliminary cheatsheet certainly tells you David Dodds' opinion of the likelihood of Cadillac playing this week.

Game starts at 4PM so a GTD could really suck.
I don't think that a game time decision would suck. THis is probably what you need to keep him out of your lineup. In his first year, coming back from and injury where he is less then 100%. Pittman has been playing well and up against San Fran.

If ... or when they get ahead I would expect them to let the veteran Pittman have the ball to keep the clock running, win the game, and not risk further injury to Cady!

I would keep him out of the starting linueup untill:

1. You see him perform well and know he is at 100% (or close to it)

2. you see how the Pittman/Williams dynamic pans out.

Caddy Update

Excerpts:

“It’s strange,” said Williams. “I’ve never had something like this where one day it feels good and the next day it’s so-so. Right now, I’m just taking it one day at a time, continuing to get treatment. I’m doing everything they’re telling me and I’m working through this thing.

“The progress has been slow. I never thought it would be like this, where I’d be missing two or three games. I’ve been out a couple weeks now and it’s still been giving me trouble. Progress has been slow, but on Sunday I had time to rest, I rested it all last week and I feel like I should be ready to go.”

“I think that starts at practice,” said Williams. “[i need to] come out and get that comfort level back at practice. I did get off to an explosive start and now I’m just at a stand-still. I just need to get this thing running this week, and I’m looking forward to it.”

“Yeah, I think I can go,” said Williams of Sunday’s game in San Francisco. “As a pro athlete in this game, you’re never 100%, but I feel like I could go.”

Thanks for the update. Looks like that was after yesterday's practice, so hopefully there will be some improvement after today.

No problem zamboni. My take is he's really frustrated, it's not completely healed, he thinks (and should) play.......it may be a problem all year.

This is tough. I know there are no gimme games, but if there ever was one, this is it. Pittman will get touches regardless...whether it's because Caddy isn't 100% or they're blowing San Fran out. I have both guys and must start one, and it's looking more and more like Pittman should be that guy.

"Cadillac" Practices Friday; Still Questionable For SundayTampa, FL -- Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Carnell "Cadillac" Williams practiced again on Friday, but remains questionable for Sunday's game at San Francisco."Hes still questionable," said head coach Jon Gruden of Williams, who hasn't played since October 2. "Well sleep on it and see how we feel when we get to San Francisco."Gruden has said since Williams returned to practice on Wednesday that the team is optimistic about him playing this Sunday."You need to see him to see where he is," Gruden said. "Were trying to get more information from him but hes a very isolated human being. So we just go out and practice and see how he looks for ourselves. But he looked very good today."For the season, the Auburn product has 447 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 99 attempts.
I wouldnt trust Cummings (the beat writer) one bit. Hes been wrong before about Caddy and seems to speculate way too much.
