Urban Meyer - Free Agent (1 Viewer)

This guy doesn’t get it, Jax, him and usc should get together and take the unprecedented course correction that’s best for all parties.

urban recruited nut jobs and thrived, time to get back to that stock and trade

Autographed Winston and Brooks on my wall. Want the Winston?
:lmao:   Nice!  Someone on here, I think it was the Ministry of Vain, used to go to the mat for Winston, nonstop?  Or was that you?  Curious what changed.  This is by no means a call out, we're all off on players at times, and there isn't a better thread title creator on the site than you, but how, when and why did you finally jump ship on Jameis?

USC would be FOOLS to hire Urban Meyer who still has the domestic violence stench around him and I don't think too many programs want to invite that type of nonsense on to their campuses when at the same time these same schools are taking very controversial social stances on a variety of issues top to bottom, how could any woman enroll at USC with a football coach that condones violent acts towards their loving wives? There's only 1 league that will tolerate this kind of nonsense and that's the National Football League and don't you forget it.

Pictures of the interior of Urban & Shelley Meyer’s home have been going viral.

Now I’m not sure what that has the o do with football, but this is NOT the kind of story I typically stumble upon when reading Golf Digest:

WE'RE EXTREMELY DISTURBED BY THESE PHOTOS OF URBAN MEYER'S HOME

Not Architectural Digest. Not People magazine. Golf freaking Digest hates this guy, and they like everybody p.
That's some 21st century 'journalism'.

This thread is a major reason I faded all Jaguars this year.  So far, that move is looking smart…. (Thanks @Ministry of Pain)
I do think Robinson is perhaps a buy-low, Lawrence and the Jaguars are going to get better as the season progresses, how much better? Not sure yet and it still will have Meyer talked about as one and done.

Marrone lost 15 in a row to end the season? 17 losses in a row for Jacksonville?

Hiring Meyer seems to be akin to hiring a reality star and fake billionaire to run a country. Except Meyer doesn't get credit for cheap gas and tons of $8/hour jobs.

“Urban Meyer told Vic Fangio after the game that “every week it’s like playing Alabama in the NFL”

:lmao:

What an alarming quote. I honestly can’t believe he even said that. Jags should be running and screaming away from this guy.

I said this earlier, but as a Skins fan this feels like a Dan Snyder type hire. Kahn falling for the big name when there were much better options out there. It might not be Spurrier level bad, but it’s going to be a bust.

Meyer also has shown he quits when the going gets tough, so if things go bad he won’t waste any time looking for exit strategies.
Like many others here, I knew this was going to be a total train wreck, yet I still foolishly drafted James Robinson when he fell to me. Although, I might have been wrong about this not reaching Spurrier range. I think that’s definitely now in play.

Wow did he say that? That's a level of NFL head coach tone deafness not seen since Titans HC Jeff Fisher showed up at a press conference in a Manning jersey and quipped he "just wanted to feel like a winner."

Agreed. So far, looking like professional football is not a good fit for Meyer (as many expected).

I met some old time soccer players who worked for Fulham a few years ago in London, they were laughing with me about Shad Khan, and how the son was given a pro soccer team to play with like a fantasy team.

Signing Tebow to play TE, and adding that sideshow to a team with a new staff is simply the definition of a red flag.

Sucks, Jacksonville has some serious fans, they deserve better.

I think the good thing for their fans is that by season's end I think both parties will be anxious to go their separate ways.

Sure seems like a fait accompli that Meyer will get one year and sent packing, unless he somehow turns things around. The wild card is how much the owner (Shahid Khan) is willing to accept egg on his face for making the hire in the first place.

The good thing for Jax fans is that they have some talent and they may grab the number 1 pick again this year.  They have some good building blocks that are probably going to get better

They just have to send Meyer packing after one year

I said this earlier in the other Meyer thread but it bears repeating here. The only thing I might have been wrong about is this hire not reaching the depths of the Spurrier hire. With as bad as that teams looks and the utter incompetence shown by Meyer, that outcome is now well within range.

I saw that headline elsewhere a few hours ago and spewed my coffee

Funny contrast between urban and dan Mullen (current gators coach) and the concept of a college coach understanding the job when coming to the nfl (jimmy johnson) is that you have to stay cocky in the face of losses. I’d love Mullen to stay with the gators forever, but if he went to the pros he has a better skill set than Meyer simply bc he has lost in college a bit and is egotistical enough to believe the wins will come eventually. Same with jimmy. He was an amazing coach in college but he understood “building a program”. Urban seems to have forgotten that and since he is not a “system” guy (like spurrier was or kings berry is ) so he just thinks “I’ll plug and play and we will win w a great qb”. He got spoiled going to UF which had a solid recruiting base before he got there and then Ohio state which is always top 5. It takes more than one or two “recruiting cycles” to build a winner in the nfl

Meyer is on the way to a Saban like failure in the nfl, not because he likely can’t do it, but because he doesn’t have the patience to build it.
jimmy went 1-15 his first year.  Arizona had, what, 4 wins in the first year of kyler Murray and ck?  Any coach who thinks he can take a team picking first in that years draft and make them an instant contender (and have too thin a skin to see what’s what) is deluding themselves.

14-0 lead at the Half...

14-7 going into Halftime last week...

Calls the worst play on a 4th and Goal when JRob was hammering the Cinci Defense in the 1st Half, how come the ground game couldn't continue in the 2nd Half and keep Joe Burrow off the field?

Not very good with timeouts and clock management either so far.

God, Urban Meyer is giving Adam Gase a run for his money on worst coaches of all time.

Does anyone else feel like he is trapped in college coach hell?  He sounds like he is trying to pep up a locker room full of kids.  "I see a lot of good hearts in there" - Nobody is questioning Jacksonville's heart - we are questioning draft choices, bringing in Tim Tebow and Carlos Hyde and not utilizing one of the better RB's of 2020.  They finally got Laviska rolling a bit, but the Urban Meyer gameplan seems pretty ####ty.

Meyer's biggest problem, besides generally being a scumbag, is he is running the Jags like they are a college team. From the morally bankrupt coaching hires (or attempted hires) over the summer which would have been given a green light at one of his big college programs, to brining in Tebow (which everyone knew wouldn't work out), to the horrible play calling (ceasing to realize this rookie QB needs an established running game), he is running this team like they are a college program.

Case in point: the play calling last night at the goal line. Trevor runs a nice QB option and punches one in, catching the defense by surprise. So what does Urban dial up the next time the Jags are at the goal line?... the same exact play, which Cincy of course recognizes and snuffs out because they are not Eastern Michigan. And that right there is the problem. Meyer seems to think he is still coaching talent that is vastly superior to his opponent on a weekly basis. Lawrence was a great college QB, so in Meyer's mind he should be ready to carry the load in the pros. It obviously doesn't work that way, but either because of hubirs or incompetence (probably a mix of both) Meyer doesn't realize it. This isn't going to end well for the Jags, which was obvious to most when the hire was made.

I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt as it looks like is trying to do a complete franchise tear-down but that decision right before the half was just brutal.

Part of the reason you go for it on the 1yd line on 4th down is there is a solid chance you'll get the ball back close to midfield on a punt. Heck, you might even get a safety out of it if the opponent gets too cute trying to get a first down. But when you pin the Bengals up against their own endzone with a few seconds left to play in the half all they have to do is run straight up the middle and you let them off the hook. That makes the risk/reward different imo. I don't mind going for the TD, I just hate to see them go for it in THAT situation.

You turn down an automatic FG then lose the game by 3pt. Just awful decision there.
