Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D., Texas) declared the U.S. Constitution to be 400 years old Wednesday on the House floor, which would mean it was signed in 1614.

“Maybe I should offer a good thanks to the distinguished members of the majority, the Republicans, my chairman and others, for giving us an opportunity to have a deliberative constitutional discussion that reinforces the sanctity of this nation and how well it is that we have lasted some 400 years, operating under a constitution that clearly defines what is constitutional and what is not,” she said.

That would be seven years after Jamestown, Virginia became America’s first permanent English settlement.

Lee is off by only 173 years. It was adopted on Sep. 17, 1787.

This is the same lady who visited NASA JPL and asked if the Mars Pathfinder had taken a picture of the flag Neil Armstrong planted there.

Sheila Jackson Lee is also a great foreign policy expert once giving a lengthy speech concerning the great level of cooperation between north and south Vietnam.

In fairness she misspoke - she meant to say North and South Dakota.

Don't sell her short, she's not only a buffoon, but is also apparently one of the most repulsive people on the hill. Which is saying something.

Dont condemn the gangbangers, theyve got guns that are trafficked, that are not enforced, that are straw purchased and they come into places even that have strong gun laws. Why? Because we dont have sensible gun legislation.

We have martial law. What that means and my colleagues know what it means is that you can put a bill on in just minutes.

My favorite was when she suggested that the hurricane naming system was discriminatory because there weren't enough black sounding names.

Tell me this isn't true.
Honestly, it's between her and the North Korean government as to which real headlines you'd have the toughest time distinguishing from The Onion.

Some of you need to Google and read, at least, United States History. You guys are making crazy statements just like this congresswoman. Kind of scary to read what many of you are posting. Please, for the love of your country, read a bit about our history before posting. Please!

Yeah, there's plenty of wiggle room in the verbiage for her to get the benefit of the doubt. She's done and said plenty of stupid things to warrant a thread title. This isn't one of them.

Just because she is a Democrat, must you defend this idiot. Easily the most ignorant member of Congress. And that is saying a lot.

Sheila's problem is she is not only ignorant, but extremely arrogant too. She refers to herself as a queen and tells people to treat her like one.

And it was ratified by all 57 states.
No. Remember that, back then, there were only 20 colonies, Georgia and Virginia weren't involved.
So you see, guys? She's so stupid that even Tim can safely pile on despite her being black!
But Tim manages a property that leases out space to a black barber shop so he can relate. The rest of you are ####### racist.

You have my political views mistaken for someone else. However, I can safely say, your attempts to "help" the Republican party are few and far between.

And, something for you to read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_United_States

Did you know Tim once ate lunch with a black man?
Wow! Who paid the tip?
They ate in the park. Maybe to avoid having to tip?

Normally I'd give the benefit of the doubt, but with her history I'm comfortable with assuming the worst and ridiculing her for it.

Are you seriously attempting to rationalize her words to twist them into somehow being accurate.

This one is hard to top. :lmao:

I have no problem calling this woman an idiot, but then I get sad thinking about the fact that she probably has more money than me and definitely has more power.

I like when she takes questions from her town hall type meetings with the public. She'll stand at the podium while talking on her cell phone as people try and tell her about the problems.
