US Men's National Team (7 Viewers)

Let’s sssume they’re actually making a play for Klopp. That is a ton of moving pieces. Even if the fed is willing to go up to like $5 million/year, you have to find sponsors to kick in an extra $15 million at least. It can be done, but it’s not something where the plan was already in place. There are multiple deals to be hammered out, even if the interest is there.

Lets hope that the last 11 days were not used rewatching GGG training footage to see where he went wrong and that they made up their mind fairly early and started to talk to sponsors if they felt the need.

There is also the outside chance the reverse happened and a sponsor or two reached out to US Soccer in concern of their investment going forward which maybe could have initiated a conversation.

Since beggars can't be choosers, we may have to live with "and please welcome the new State Farm US Men's National Team coach, Jurgen Klopp"

My pup wants a picture with Klopp.

USA have made Klopp a top target for manager and made initial approaches through intermediaries
Jurgen Klopp has rebuffed an approach from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) to take over as the men’s national team head coach following the dismissal of Gregg Berhalter.

Initial contact was made with Klopp regarding the possibility of leading the USMNT but he reiterated that he would like a break from football, according to sources briefed on the matter, according to sources privy to the matter. Despite that, interest remains, sources add, from US Soccer in making the 57-year-old their next head coach.

The job at hand calls for one of those serial managerial troubleshooters who coach up an African side for a cycle, get sacked or quit because the FA hasn't paid, and reappear six months later on another sideline. We need a man of mystery with loads of experience in the international game and in dealing with federations more mismanaged than the USSF. An away match in Honduras shouldn't be intimidating after visits to Mali and DR Congo.
Renard is a two-time AFCON winner. Master of the ****show.
And that jawline and hair... panties be a droppin'

He did a nice job with the French women's team

Currently searching transfermarkt for any other out-of-work coaches with first name of Jurgen and last initial of K.

Maybe he could beat Argentina with our guys if they had 3 goals reversed in our game too, although the winner's bonus purse probably wouldn't measure up to what the Saudi Sheiks gave him.

Looks like we'll have to settle for Zidane then unless we can lure Sir Alex out of retirement.

Yeah, some of those names are not going to happen.

Personally, I think David Wagner would be a really good get and attainable. Herve Renard's name been mentioned a bit as well and would probably be another good get.

Don Carlo has been bumming around Montana all summer. Let’s just give it to him.

I mean, if that’s not a “come get me” plea, I don’t know what is.

Add Thierry Henry to the list....

Not sure he'd want to leave the Paramount+ pundit stage to take the US team.
Either take the job or we pair you with Alexi Lalas...
:lmao: He's already dealing with scouser Jaime Carragher and Micah Richards. At least he has Kate Abdo with him!

Oh wait, moving to Fox and Lalas would be worse.
I'd suffer through a dozen clones of Alexi Lalas if it meant I got to sit next to Kate Abdo.

Everyone’s clear that by saying we “give it” to Ancelotti, I’m proposing we just gift him Montana, right?

He can marry a large, American woman, raise rabbits and she can cook them for him.

A rather fatal attraction, don't you think?

Close, but nyet.

Carlo married a Canadian and lives in Vancouver in the off-seasons.

“I know this book, your conclusions are all wrong Doyle. Berhalter acted foolishly.”

This is in response to Twellman pointing out that Cherundolo is acting like he has already been contacted by US Soccer via an awkward answer to a question about whether he will be the LAFC coach the rest of the season

He has indeed had those conversations and, as of now, if he’s not the leading candidate, he will definitely be a finalist for the job, I believe.

The vast majority of the fan base thinks we hit bottom. We are no where near bottom and things do have a chance to not improve and could even get worse. Not enough people are taking that into consideration.
Well said. That's what I was getting at.

There's a huge portion of our fanbase today, and unfortunately it's the portion with the megaphones, that thinks the US is a top 10 team with good coaching. That's absurd. And what would be "funny" about a few losses to Mexico is seeing the Twitterati faced with the reality.

I'm not rooting for that -- I want the team to win -- but if it comes to pass at least there's a silver lining.

It would be hella funny if the new guy comes in and gets absolutely trucked by Mexico a few times.
see here is the thing....

I guess I'm just at the point where I don't really care if we get a little worse. We missed the world cup 6 years ago and I still enjoyed the tournament. It hurt, but we got over it.

Greg or a Greg-like coach has/had no upside. I've seen the US get through a group and get thumped by a much better team (Dutch) and I've seen us get through a group and play a pretty competitive game against a much better team (Belgium 14). Its fun for a few hours but then we're just right back where we started.

I'm well aware that coaching is not what stops us from going from a consistent round of 16 loser to a team that can realistically push for WC semi-finals. We need about a dozen Pulisic level players and some luck in order for that to be a reasonable expectation, and we're nowhere near that. But I'd rather have someone who tries something new and tries to push the program forward (despite his many flaws, Klinnsman TRIED to do this) than someone who is content to set-up tactically for draws as places like El Salvador and Costa Rica because "boo hoo its hot and humid and the field is bad and we can qualify with away draws".

And if that means we occasionally take an L from Mexico, I'm ok with that.

My Sentiments exactly. Would rather swing for the fences, particularly with the automatic bid where we don't have to worry about qualifying.
