German publication Bild are reporting tonight that #cfc have agreed £45m deal to sign Christian #Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund next summer.
Friend texted me an Instagram screenshot saying same, but for £50m ($57m).

What are the forums thoughts on CP to Chelsea, we’ve seen these scenarios play out badly more than enough.
I think he'll be fine wherever he goes- I genuinely think he's good enough, especially after seeing him go at England defenders for the US recently. That said, every article I've read connecting him to Chelsea mentions him as a replacement for Hazard, who is linked to RM (as he always seems to be). Playing an important role for a team- sure. But Filling the shoes of arguably the best player on the planet right now... big ask.

did we ever get conformation that he was out at a party the night before the game or was that just a rumor?

I was not surprised to see him missing for the final for that possible infraction but I was surprised that he was banned from the parade celebration.
Nothing confirmed, no.

It's weird to have a summer deal in place already, isn't it? So much can happen between now and then.
I seriously doubt there’s a deal in place. Maybe some discussion, perhaps an offer. It’s all just a fart in the wind at this point, although it does seem likely he’ll move somewhere this summer.

There's no deal yet.  Dortmund are unlikely to move him this winter as they're still in 3 competitions and need the depth right now, but they will sell this summer unless Christian changes his mind and resigns past 2020.

I thought his contract was up this coming summer, so he’d be going for free?  Or is it the next summer as your post indicates....?

2020.  Although Dortmund won't let him go into next year without an extension.  They can't afford to let him walk for free, so he's gonna be sold in summer.

I saw reports this weekend that Arsenal was also sniffing around CP.

I hate myself for originally typing "Arsenal were"  :X

ok speculation is now over.  Now the question is will Pulisic get a chance to play at Chelsea?  He will probably miss at least some of the summer tour with Chelsea due to the Gold Cup.

Officially $73m and loaned back to Dortmund for the rest of this season.  Shatters Brooks' $22m record for an American signing.

I was thinking CP is kind of a mix of Pedro and Hazard... If either of those guys go now or in the summer, it'll give us a better indication of what he might be doing there.

Oh...missed that the move is now and he's being loaned back to Dortmund.

How does a ManU fan handle the best American player playing at Chelsea? It was always safe to root for the Americans in the EPL, not so much any more.

Pedro, Willian, and Hazard are all potentially leaving.  Chelsea also has Hudson-Odoi (18r yr old winger) looking to get an opportunity too.  It's going to be really interesting what they do.

I think Chelsea overpaid, but if Sarri sticks (always a question with Roman), I think he’s among the best non-Klopp managers for Pulisic.

I do worry about that fan base, as they give Willian ####, and I think he’s an amazing two-way winger.

Yeah, I don't see this record being broken for quite some time.

I'd say Hazard is definitely off, and Chelsea are just spending the money now.

Arsenal didn’t make sense unless we assume CO would move back to the left. Auba has pretty much locked down the right as the mirror-universe Thierry Henri.

Interesting in a non-CP way I guess.  To put this into some perspective that is one of the top 10 EPL transfers of all-time.  There’s no way they don’t play him.

My guess is Pedro’s gone and the rest is TBD on if the make the CL.

Less than they paid for Morata and he was benched for Giroud for awhile. I think CO will be given his shot. Probably more than one. But if they can ship KDB after a year, they can ship Pulisic.

We’ll see, but they also have an anticipated transfer ban coming (which is why this deal is structured like this).  My guess is the roster will be more static at least through the summer of 2020.

I'd say one difference is that Abramovich is currently banned from working in the UK - and thus, he has not been inclined to put his own money into the club lately - see the delays in the stadium issue.

I would guess, that Chelsea will have to be a bit tighter with their money going forward, and that this deal is really just spending the Hazard money they will get this summer.  And, with such a hefty fee, if it does not work out for Pulisic, Chelsea may not have many options on where they can sell him - without losing a lot of money.

Fwiw, I read a couple of articles in the last week mentioning this kid looking to be loaned or sold if the CP deal happened.

I have to say, I hate this deal for Pulisic.  Chelsea are a meat grinder.  Selfishly, I always wanted him at Pool, but the last 6 months I've realized that ship may have sailed.

But the kid needs great coaching.  I don't think Sarri is all that, plus Chelsea are literally the worst when it comes to coaching stability.

I'd rather have seen him to go Arsenal, Tottenham or United.

The worst part about it is if Hazard leaves.  Pulisic is not going to step into the PL and instantly be a Hazard replacement.  It's going to put an immense amount of pressure on him.

BUT...Kudos to the kid and his family.  It's a huge money deal and it gives him a chance to become a superstar.  And hey, as I would have argued for Liverpool, a generation of Chelsea kids were just created in the USA.

Sources told ESPN FC that the decision to join Chelsea in the summer, rather than in January, was Pulisic's to give him the best chance of impressing Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri during a full preseason rather than half of a regular season.

ESPN FC also was told that the addition of Pulisic is independent of speculation over the futures of Eden Hazard and Callum Hudson-Odoi because Chelsea needs to provide alternative options to Pedro and Willian, who are in their 30s.

I realize it's a long shot, but United look like an awakened beast.  If they catch Chelsea and Chelsea are in Europa again, Sarri might not even be there.  Pretty silly move by Pulisic imo.  If that's his longterm team, why not go there immediately?

My guess is more Chelsea less Gold Cup.
This is a really tough spot for Berhalter to be in.

On the one hand, Berhalter is going to want his best player settled at his new club.  On the other, the Gold Cup is going to be Berhalter's first real games and is going to want his best player involved.

In the end I think it will be Berhalter's call since releasing for the Gold Cup I believe is mandatory for clubs if requested.

I can't imagine Pulisic not playing in the Gold Cup.  It would be a really poor decision for him and for the USA.  Since Chelsea are presumably buying Pulisic for the marketing/business end, they need their guy to be starring for the international team.

Pulisic is a big prospect, but he's not THAT good that he can turn down the Gold Cup. Is he?

Historically do big players skip it?

Chelsea just announced all-time record revenues of £443m. The club made a £113m profit on player sales alone last season.  If CP signed a 6 year deal as reported, this transfer fee is easily manageable.  The Chelsea owner has never been a for-profits owner, and has always invested in the club to win titles.  I don't think this has anything to do with Hazard.  The club said it was part of its long-term plan, decided before Sarri arrived, which makes sense given Willian and Pedro are both over 30.

In the current format, where both Gold Cups in a cycle have meaning, typically all healthy players are called and come.

even though Dortmund are considered to be wizards when selling off players, I still think other German teams are going to be watching closely and it should help encourage other German teams to continue to give young American's some chances.

We will see.  Revenues will be down this year with no CL.  And Chelsea abandoned plans to invest in a new stadium or upgrade Stamford Bridge after England denied a work-permit for Abramovich.  This is not the same old Abramovich.

Hazard is almost certainly off - Sarri's recent comments suggested that the club want a decision ASAP from him.  Assuming Hazard does leave for RM this summer, Pulisic will not be the only AM Chelsea bring in with that money.

Its always funny to see armchair fans who think they know better than a player and his advisers what is best for his career.  He may succeed or flame out at Chelsea, but this move gives him every opportunity to realize his dream if he continues to work hard.  Of course, any of the top clubs in the world would do the same.  Liverpool, United, Arsenal, etc. - they all have a long list of young prodigies they signed who flamed out.  I know you're still new to this and emotional about it, but to say this club is a bad destination for a young player is stupid.

I also would have rather seen him go to a team like the Spurs where he’d have more latitude to mature.  As previously mentioned, Chelsea is not a pillar of stability.
