US Men's National Team (10 Viewers)

This paragraph is about the most depressing thing I've read about development in the US in general.  When the writer puts it like this, it's no wonder we're stuck in this rut of development.

He could have signed a Generation Adidas deal with MLS and gone through the draft or perhaps signed as a homegrown player with the Philadelphia Union. He could have braved the no man’s land of college soccer. He could have tried to obtain a work permit and seek refuge with whatever European team wanted to sign him and deal with all the attendant paperwork. Pulisic could still have developed into a star in any of these scenarios. But that road would have been far more treacherous (before you even get to the quality of training he would have received), and he’d have to wait until he was at least Matt Miazga’s age to try and make the leap to Europe.

I am missing your point.  What would be so bad about being a home grown player?  It is exactly the path we want to see players take instead of going to college.

Look at the talent in Dallas's system.  It is fabulous.  You have a wonderful ex-player like David Ferreria choosing to move his kid from Colombia to Dallas to get into that academy.  Those academy teams just had a very strong showing against some world class youth teams recently in the Dallas Cup.

As for his last sentence about having to wait until he was 20 to move, I believe that is incorrect.  It is 18 to move abroad for most Euro countries and there are plenty that you don't need a work permit for.

The pass port made his life easier obviously since he got to start at a younger age but at the very worst, he would have parked himself at an NASL team and left on his 18th birthday (which is this September ) like other players have done.  He would have been probably 12-15 months behind where he is now, but it would not be the worst thing in the world for him imo.

I'm sure they have a point...oh wait...no they don't.
If FIFA determines that they did break the rules (which is certainly sounds like they did) and FIFA wants to punish them, what type of discipline could they hand down?

When Mexico stupidly fielded over age players in a tournament in the late 80's, FIFA banned them from the 1990 WC (which was the door that opened for the US to start our modern age).

I can't see FIFA being that harsh for this issue but what else can they do?  Fine them a ton of money?

It's not as if we can give Dortmund all that much credit for developing Pulisic.  He smoked through the U-17s last spring.  Started with the U-19s this fall and ended up in the first team by the new year. Pulisic didn't need to go overseas to develop his talent (he apparently did do a lot of short term overseas training with top clubs while he was still with Penn. Classics, but he was mainly developed right here in the US Development System).

The deadspin article tried to minimize this by almost claiming all his development came in the past year.

I posted a video of Pulisic at 9 years old and it was pretty clear the kid had something very special even at that young age.

I think he would have been a good player in almost any situation he tried but luckily for us his passport gave him access to the quickest path up the chain (of which the majority of the credit goes to Pulisic and partial credit to Dortmund for allowing him to advance quickly).

If #usmnt forward Bobby Wood remains at Union Berlin next season, he will have a new coach as Union hire former Schalke mgr Jens Keller

Manchester United's American teenager Matthew Olosunde is a player the club are "really excited about," according to academy manager Nicky Butt.

The 18-year-old defender from Trenton, New Jersey, was signed by United on Jan. 29. Olosunde's arrival at the club was confirmed on March 11 after international clearance was received, and he then made his debut for their under-18s against Brighton & Hove Albion.

The versatile player can play at centre-back and right-back.

Butt, quoted on the club's official website, said: "He's one that's been ongoing for a while. With the clearance it took him a while but we've got him.

"He's a good player, a nice lad and a really good athlete. Hopefully we'll see a lot of him in the coming years because he's someone we're really excited about."

Olosunde, who was formerly with the New York Red Bulls academy, was set to be play for Duke University in North Carolina in the fall until United signed him.

He will hope to follow in the footsteps of other teenagers who have been promoted from the club's youth set-up, with Marcus Rashford and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson having shone for the senior squad this season.

I would think that FIFA would punish the individual Mexican clubs, and not the national federation, FMF.
This is true.

I guess the problem is so wide spread that it would affect almost every team in Mexico so that is probably why FMF, which is the body that sanctions Liga MX in Mexico, is talking to FIFA.

Hadji Wright - Very happy to announce that I have officially signed with @s04. Excited for the future and can't wait to get started. #GlückAuf ?⚪

==========

s04 is Schalke.

Yedlin quietly continues to put together consistent competent performances.  His play should hopefully garner him another EPL loan next year.

===========

Brooks played for the first time since he knee injury he got just before qualifying.  He went 90 today.

Freddy Adu continues the dream progression for his career turn around in the NASL.  It might be time to call it a day Freddy

===============

One notable absence from the bench is midfielder Freddy Adu. Always a source of discussion given his high-profile past, Adu has yet to crack the 18-player gameday roster this season. Campbell says it’s a result of the attacker losing out in the competition for spots that is happening across the entire roster.

“No, he’s not injured. It’s just a matter of the competition. We’ve got good competition all over the roster. We’ve got plenty of other talented players not in the 18 and you’re not asking about them. It’s my job to pick what I think is the best 18 available.”

Fabulous news considering what could have been

Had the same thought.  He's nothing special by EPL standards, but he's looked like he belongs for the last couple months.  Hopefully he can build on this solid run next year.

:goodposting:

Some of his consistency, IMO, has come at the expense of what gave him potential; explosive speed getting forward. Hes been staying home a lot more, which Is making him less obviously exciting, but Is clearly teaching how to hold the line, maintain spacing, and play w teammates. I have higher hopes that If he can stay In the EPL, hell get comfortable enough to bring the explosive part of his game back. Especially If he lands w a better team.

I think it's great that he's having to play on a team that forces him to stay back and play defense. Everyone knows he can get to the endline and make up ground coming tracking back.  However, his defensive game needed serious work. Marking, spacing, seeing runs, holding the line, moving the ball around the back and up to the midfield, defending corners.  All of that was sub par for Yedlin. Another year of putting in solid defense will do him well.

Jermaine Jones came off his suspension last night to play his first game for Colorado in another snow filled game.   He had a goal and an assist in the 2-1 win against in very poor playing conditions.

The good news continues.

Bobby Wood scored again today.

Bobby has scored in 8 straight games and 9 of his last 10 games.

He has 12 goals over those 10 games

Pulisic is the 4th youngest player in Bundesliga history to score.

Only Sahin, Drexler and Timo Werner beat him.  Drexler and Werner were only by a couple of weeks.

And Gedion Zelalem scored a cooly taken penalty in the shootout for Rangers in their Scottish cup semi win over Celtic.  Pretty nice 24 hours for various US youngsters opening their accounts.

This does not break his cherry though right?  If it was a pk shootout, those are not logged as official goals for the player if memory serves.

On Friday, German club Schalke 04 officially signed former U.S. U-17 national team striker Haji Wright. A day later, he scored twice for Schalke in a 3-1 win over Borussia Moenchengladbach in the Under-19 Bundesliga.

I highly recommend watching this for those who have not seen Pulisic play.  This is an "every touch video" from his latest Bundesliga game.

He is far from flawless obviously but there is so much to like here.

* Positive play (most of his movements are of an attacking nature)

* Winning ball back after losing it

* So involved.  Teammates look to him early and often with passes

* Draws free kicks and corners

* Takes the corners

* Willing to take on players with speed

* Creates multiple scoring chances with low accurate crosses

I have seen enough of him now that I can't see how he is not a starter on the US team going forward, especially knowing that he would be likely replacing Zardes.  Him and Fab on opposite wings would be wonderful and they can switch sides at will since both appear to have two excellent feet.

Here is the video, let me know your thoughts
