US Men's National Team (17 Viewers)

Adams with a late cameo today.  Pulisic did not play.

I think both of these were expected.

Dortmund coughed up a 3 goal lead after the 75th minute to only get a point.

I just watched some Keaton Parks highlight vids from his first two friendlies.  He looks comfortable and not out of place.  He is being deployed so far pretty deep and is responsible for playing the ball from the middle of the back.

Swag starts for Schalke against Bayern today.  Outside of not being in goal, where he plays will be anyone's guess.

I read a funny comment from a German reporter which said that the Schalke coach closes his eye and throws a dart at his formation board and that is where he decides Weston will play :)

This is just like Magic Johnson playing all 5 positions in game 6 of the 1980 NBA Finals. Says a lot.

Just.like.Magic.Johnson.

too young :(

FRISCO - Former FC Dallas Technical Director Fernando Clavijo passed away on Friday at his home in Fort Lauderdale, FL after a five-year battle with multiple myeloma. He was 63.

“Our family is deeply saddened by the loss of Fernando, and our heartfelt condolences are with Martha and the Clavijo family in this difficult time,” said FC Dallas Chairman Clark Hunt. “From his days as a player with the U.S. Men’s National team to his time as a coach and technical director in Major League Soccer, Fernando made a significant impact on American soccer.

“But beyond the pitch, his warmth, enthusiasm and joyful spirit made him beloved by everyone who knew him. He will be dearly missed.”

He couldn’t keep Schalke from falling to Bayern, but Weston McKennie had a strong performance, was Schalke’s best player. He continues to gain confidence in attacking side of his game. Look forward to seeing him in one of the dueling 10 roles in Berhalter’s #USMNT setup

=======

statistically, whoscored rated Weston as Schalke's best player today.

I saw a good tweet about Fernando last night.

He did not receive his first cap until he was 33 years old and ended up with 61 before he retired.

I know nobody knows, but
best we can hope is that Atlanta is trying to work out a deal with Columbus.  But Atlanta is going to likely be worried about getting 50 cents on the dollar and might be wary of making a trade.

There appears to be a CCL curse this off season.   Almost every MLS team in that competition is experiencing problems with their roster.  None bigger than Toronto but all have some issues.

The U20 World Cup field of teams is now complete.

Brazil, which holds the records for most U20 WC's qualified for, has now missed out on the last two as they and Germany miss out, along with the 2017 winners England, who also did not qualify.

considering all three have been golden pipelines of youth players for a good stretch (yes, even england)- I'm shocked.

It is surprising but much more for Brazil for me.  Qualifying out of Europe is incredibly hard due to the small number of spots.

Germany did not even make it into the final round of qualifying (which were the top 8 teams from the previous round) and Germany even hosted the previous round.  It looks like some crazy results though.  The team that won Germany's group, had a negative GD.

Someone refresh my memory on which of the youth world cups these other counties give a damn about.

For the U20 WC, all of them.  The U20 WC has had the greatest amount of world class players emerge from out of any youth tournament.  It also has the highest concentration of pro scouts of any youth tournament.  It is the absolute pinnacle of the game at that level and many countries spend a fortune trying to get in.

The U17 WC and U23 Olympics produce less WC players and have much less exposure to the pro game.

There has been a small  buzz in preseason that Carleton is playing with a serious chip on his shoulder and creating a highlight reel play every practice.  He scored a beauty today in a scrimmage

Carleton had a hat trick and an assist today against weak competition but any signs of life have to help De Boer.

Maybe Nagbe's absence is opening up some extra time in the midfield in preseason.

well I guess this answers my question as to whether Berhalter built the system to fit his team or will build his team to fit the system

"Sorry Christian, it's not going to work out"

For those keeping count, we now have exactly 1 full time coach for the youth national teams. :(

U.S. U15 BNT coach Clint Peay has joined the staff at @NorthCarolinaFC, leaving another vacancy in the USSF youth coaching ranks.

this is the cycle we want to see forever now

Gianluca Busio “You can see that I’m in the same spot that Tyler Adams was two years ago. A 16-year-old, playing in MLS, getting a couple games in, and now he’s in the Bundesliga. I think of it as, why can’t that be me?”

I’m told the #LAGalaxy have signed Julian Araujo to a first-team contract. The #USMNT U-20 defender is definitely one to watch in 2019 as the Galaxy look to give their young talent more opportunities
