US Men's National Team (15 Viewers)

I assume he'll be part of Chels loan-army immediately, and probably be loaned back to the Fire... or to another team in europe hopefully a step up from MLS, because otherwise what's the point.
With Abromovich and their unlimited resources gone, I'm not sure this will continue. It's a really good strategy to hold wealth at a club but probably not sustainable long term unless you are really good at it.

Chelsea haven't always been great at the business end. Kepa is currently valued at $11m per transfermkt and they paid $88m. Same is probably true for Lukaku, Pulisic, and Werner. I think Chelsea is likely going to need to fund transfers by selling like a normal club.

Mendy is 30 so while he's got quite a few years left in the tank, by the time he starts to fade out, Gaga will only be like 22.

I would be more than happy with 2 years at Chicago (on loan) playing full time and then when he is 20 (which is still very young for a keeper) hopefully get a loan to a top 5 league as long as he is going to play.

I don't think any one foresees him ever really playing for Chelsea (similar to Miazga many years ago).

I think ideally, he'll play for Chicago through the end of next summer and then move to a bottom feeder top 5 league team in time for the 2023/2024 season.

As for playing for Chelsea... if they stay at or near the same level as they are now, then he'd have to be a top 10 GK in the world in order to play for them.  Kepa is likely a world top 40 and he was considered a terrible GK by Chelsea standards.

However, I don't think Chelsea and Real come calling like this unless they believe there's a chance for that to come true.  It'd be awesome if it did.

I forget- is Kepa still on the books there?

I mean- that's not just one, but TWO world class GKs (and Kepa's young... dunno about Mendy) that he gets to sit behind.

I think this is correct, other than saying I'd be even more patient than looking for a top 5 loan at 20 years of age. If this kid moves to Chelsea, its probably not productive to view the goal as being to play for the senior team some day. Forget the current GK group on the first team - just looking at the Chelsea academy there are a half dozen GKs in the 19-22 or so range, several of whom have been in the Chelsea youth program for many years. There's even one other American GK - Ethan Wady - who's been playing in the Chelsea academy for I think 3 or 4 years or so. Its awesome that Chelsea and Real Madrid are apparently interested - what an incredible thing that must be for an 18 year old. He can't go wrong here, but the big move for him is probably going to be the next one - 4 or 5 years from now.

I do wonder about him though... he's been starting in MLS for now his second season- that isn't the equivalent of a typical teen/reserve team kid and is extremely rare. as such, it makes sense that these big teams are coming after him, and I'd imagine they'd give him a proper sniff/kick-the-tires test in club to see how/where he might fit first. I actually have higher hopes for him actually seeing time whereever he ends up...albeit, not right away.

Tim Howard walked right into the Manchester United team at 24.  Based in Wikipedia, it looks like wasn't the full time #1  with the Metrostars until his age 22 season (2001)

Obviously a lot has changed in 20 years...so we dont know if Tim would have played more/been pursued earlier if MLS was more on the map at that point.

That being said, it does seem very unlikely that Gaga sniffs the Chelsea stating job for at least 2-3 years. He'd have to go out on loan to a pretty decent spot and absolutely kill it for them to even consider it. (assuming new ownership is gonna be willing to splash cash on a big time vet if needed)

Berhalter on Malik Tillman: "He had an injury that sustained in the match [against Grenada] and it got worse. I think that is part of the frustration you saw. He is out for the game against El Salvador."

No surprise but Whorebath will start in goal tomorrow night according to GGG
sounds like the bathing whore and Haji will be two switches, but otherwise will be an "A" team.

will be interesting to see how Haji does with CP, Weah, Aaronson, Swag et al.

I've genuinely liked what he's shown- even if he has some limitations (not quite fast enough), I love how he has consistently provided an outlet to beat the opposing team's press either showing back or hitting the channels. he may not always win and hold the ball- but he's consistently won the ball, and usually found runners for a one or two touch tap off. He's also gotten into good spots in the box and attacking third and while I haven't seen it yet for the US, he was scoring some nice Prefok-esque slashing headers for his club. He does some of the same things in terms of movement and combination as Jesus (I don't think as well, but not enough visual data for me to know for sure) and some of the same attacking the ball in the box with his tall frame and long limbs as Prefok (and has shown more ability to defend or just all around give a #### than Prefok did in that abysmal Mex outing).

There’s an good fluff piece bio on Pulisic in the athletic today, centered around his obsession with online chess.

According to records on what appears to be Pulisic’s chess account, “a lot” is an understatement. Since joining the site a year and a half ago, the account has logged 1,238 untimed games, 3,659 games on the clock, and 2,115 puzzles. If each one took five minutes, that would work out to 35,060 minutes of chess, or nearly four months of 40-hour work weeks. By comparison, since the start of the 2020-21 season, he’s played 5,776 minutes of football across all competitions for club and country.

Sources tell ESPN that Orange County and #usynt defender Kobi Henry has completed his move to Ligue 1 side Stade de Reims. Transfer free is the highest in USL history.

USL to Leeg Uh? wow. I assume he has a euro passport?

I wish England could have pushed this stretch of games to have the worst results in many many years about 6 months from now.

They continued their horrible run with a record breaking 4-0 loss, at home, to Hungary.

see... I'm looking at this as the beginning of the decline. in 6 months they'll be exponentially worse!

Five months for the English press to ratchet up the pressure and undermine their confidence should work wonders.  I'm convinced no country on the planet hates their team as much as the English.

I'll be honest, I've watched a lot of the UEFA Nations League and I don't get the sense that these teams really care that much.  And they seem to be experimenting with lineups quite a bit.  Maybe if we were talking about a WC in a month but like you are saying, their form now is kind of meaningless.

I think they care more than you think.  There are precious few games left before the WC.  England has only 2 more games now before the WC.

Even if they didn't care as much as a WC qualifier, England has never lost by 4 goals at home and not scored and they have been playing since 1872.

England are in a position to get relegated as well in Nations League as they are in dead last place right now in their group with only 2 games to play.

Oh, no doubt it's a really bad loss and they will get skewered.

The level of intensity between those matches and what I saw in the 2 play-in games the last 2 days was very evident.  Even if the quality was poor.

Definitely some weird results that make this seem like it might be the case.  Hungary leading a group with Germany, Italy, England.  England and France both currently in relegation positions.

Not to make excuses for England but the core of their team is primarily City and Pool - Foden, Sterling, TAA, Walker, Stones, Graelish plus some guys who had to play big minutes through the end of year due to relegation and CL spot battles or FA cup (Mount, Phillips, Saika and Kane).  These guys are mentally in offseason mode most likely.

And it is an excuse and a horrible result.

  • -------Pulisic Wright Weah
  • ---------Aaronson Musah
  • --------------Adams
  • Robinson Long CCV Cannon
  • --------------Horvath

I guess this isn't the A team, at least in the back line. No Zimm? Conceivable that Jedi is the only guy back there who sees time this fall.

Fun to see Aaronson in the MF again. Hope to see more LDLT as well tonight. Bummer about Tillman.

I still can't get over how attack-first our team is these days.

Losing the Zimmerman -- Robinson pairing in central defense and then not having a top-notch keeper has me shook too.  Hopefully someone steps up and really shines in the next few games.  Not dissing Long or anything, just feel like it's a big drop off.

Richards being hurt is really a killer.  He was the player most likely to take Robinson's spot.

not terribly hurt. I remember GGG saying just before the roster was announced that Richards was very close but that they were not going to risk playing him.
I'd like to see him play some more.  Really don't have an opinion on him at this point.

Maybe one of the 3-initial guys can step in.

So just as a reminder.  During WCQing:

At ELS: We scored 0 goals

At Canada: We scored 0 goals

At Panama: We scored 0 goals

At Mexico: We scored 0 goals

At Costa Rica: We scored 0 goals

At Honduras: We were shut out in the first half before popping off in second half.

This is not the offensive record that should make any of us feel confident at all.   Which drives me nuts because all our "best" players are on the offensive side of the ball.  And yet it was the unheralded defense which got us through qualifying.

oh dear...

=============

At both teams’ training last night at Cuscatlan, pieces of metal were being found on the field — presumably left over from weekend concert. Concacaf reps aware.

Many of these were before Berhalter knew his personnel...was starting MLS guys etc.  Also, CONCACAF goat tracks etc.

I think we perform much better in the WC if Berhalter doesn't get abused tactically, which is obviously in play.
