USC Rookie LBs... (1 Viewer)

With the pass rush coming on Matthews is pulling closer to Cushing for defensive rookie of the year.

Matthews has 35 total tackles on the year, 7 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, one returned for a TD, and 6 passes defended.

Cushing has 102 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, 3 ints, 2 forced fumbles and 9 passed defended.

Maualuga 47 total tackles, 1 sack, 2 forced fumbles, and 2 passes defended.

Pretty nice for that trio really.

Matthews is already a very good OLB in the 3/4. He's going to be a terror on opposing QBs for years to come.

Packers look like they hit on both of the 1st rounders with Raji coming on after struggling with a high ankle sprain early.

Have only seen the other two USC guys play a game or two. It looks like that trio can all play at the next level.

That LB corps (don't forget Kaluka Maiava, drafted by the Browns in the 4th round) was one of the all-time great LB corps in college history IMHO. Those guys were very dominant for USC last year.

Clay Matthews is a rising stud. My eyes are always drawn to him, as I love watching him unleash his array of pass-rush moves in his intense style of play -- and what closing speed on the QB. He's fast, alert, and relentless in his pass-rush, as well as stout in run defense. I concur that Thompson hit on both Matthews and Raji, who has himself increasingly shown flashes of dominance on a number of impact plays made these last couple of weeks since he's gotten healthy.

I'm glorying in James Laurinaitis's impressive performance in his rookie campaign, as I made a point to reach for him in every one of my new IDP and rookie drafts this year (even traded Fitzgerald for Laurinaitis and DeSean Jackson in one big-play league before the start of the season)....

Sadly, I pointedly avoided Brian Cushing in drafts, as I bought into the belief that he would be merely a fringe option in fantasy because he plays the fantasy-unfriendly SLB position. Of course, I was sorely mistaken, as, contrarily, he has been an absolute beastly phenom. :bag:

I was a bit surprised at how well Matthews played last night, grea pass rush plus he seems like a real cerebral type of player.
