Use #1 Waiver Priority on Hunter Pence? (1 Viewer)

Here's the situaiton:

12 team, NL only league with deep rosters. I could definitely use Pence as a replacement for Scott Hairston in the OF.

This is the first NL only league I've played in, and it seems that the #1 waiver spot is pretty important, especially considering the midseason trades that could go down.

So do you pick up Pence in this spot, or let him slip to somebody else?

1. Tim Lincecum will be starting for the Giants by mid-May and his potential warrants an immediate pickup in all leagues. --Jon, Wading River, NY

Answer: True. On the cubicle walls around the Yahoo! fantasy offices, pictures of Lincecum in provocative beefcake poses are the norm. As my colleagues would similarly express, the man-love for the diminutive flamethrower is obsessive. With triple-digit heat and a knee-buckling curve, the 22-year-old has owned Triple-A hitters posting an otherworldly 0.36 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 11.9 K/9 in 25 IP. Since Armando Benitez has performed admirably, it's evident, once GM Brian Sabean realizes Russ Ortiz is an overpriced WHIP whale, Lincecum will be the Giants fifth starter. Available in a stupid 93 percent of Y! leagues, he'll be up no later than mid-June. And yes, he's Rich Hill good. Get him by any means necessary.

He is already in Yahoo...
 just now realized that... added him. damn.. when did they put him in?
He has been there all season...
Yeah, Lincecum is already on a roster in my league, so that option doesn't work out. With him gone do you still go for Pence?

the only other 2 prospects that look like they could be impact performers not in the yahoo database (Bailey already is) this year if given the chance are Braun (3B for the Brewers) and Gallardo (SP for the Brewers) neither of who look to be called up anytime soon since the Brewers seem loathe to break up what they have going right now. Both are generally regarded as better prospects, but if they don't get the chance it really doesn't matter. So if you need a bat, I'd do it since you'll get 2-3 months of production versus waiting until July-Aug for a meaningful trade to happen.

I'm contemplating dropping Chris B. Young for Pence... am I nuts? Young has started to hit recently, but he's frustrating as well.

Young or Pence for this year?

Hold off on doing that, but if you have a extra MR or a 5th starter drop them.
