I have almost the exact same story. 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee ...this is 4 years ago. I should have know better. It was my wife's former vehicle and was a dream. But when they starting breaking down ...they really start breaking down, one thing after the other. If I'm any indication, you should continue to throw money into the heap and just keep telling yourself that after this one last repair it's going to run beautifully for years. Yep, that's how I roll.

It was for my son at the time, and between My decision process was more about what I had to spend to keep it going versus a whole new car since it now was for my son. The outside and inside looked great. At first it was brakes, then transmission, then radiator ...then engine. The last one was $3K (engine). It was probably worth $6K at the time, but again ...looked great. I don't remember, but it was $7K-$8K at least overall. One-piece-at-a-time ...this time.
Less than a week after the rebuilt engine was in - my son totaled it.
Kee as I said I am going to be selling a used car soon as well..my buddy says to sell cars on Facebook Marketplace. Says they go fast and for good $$$. Many people can`t get credit or are in lines of business making cash. Said most decent vehicles under 5K go pretty fast.Interesting development.
I called the shop Tuesday and told them that I wouldn't be having them do the repair and that I'd have a truck come pick it up Thursday (today). Got a call back just as the shop was closing and they said that the mechanic "didn't get the message" and had already taken apart the front end in anticipation of the radiator showing up today. I told them to just put it back together and I'll come get it.
Since it was already taken apart, and will have to put it back together anyway, they are "checking with the service manager" if they can just repair it for the cost of the parts (~$500). If they call back with a "yes", I'll do it and try to sell it ASAP. Otherwise, I'll make them put it back together and go grab it.
I wondered that too. But I feel these guys have always been pretty fair and honest with me. When I told them to just put it back together and I'll come pick it up, seemed they were willing to do so.That's a pretty shifty move on the part of the mechanic.
Family detailing exercise this weekend to get it ready...Kee as I said I am going to be selling a used car soon as well..my buddy says to sell cars on Facebook Marketplace. If you have black interior mats and carpeting. Use black spray paint on it to touch up worn spots. Believe me..it makes it look like new. Give it a day or so after to air out and use some Febreeze.Family detailing exercise this weekend to get it ready...I'll put it on FB and CL.
Nice. No idea why people trade in cars or use those car buying services. They both give you way less than a little elbow grease and selling yourself will get. I’ve sold 3 cars myself. Offered 4K for an Explorer, sold in 1 day for 8k. Got $800 more than Carmax for another Explorer in a week. Sold a Sienna after an 8k offer for over 11k in a few weeks. I used AutoTrader and Craigslist. I even did an upgrade on 8k Explorer for pop-ups and the guy who bought it the next day even said to me he couldn’t find the right thing and my car popped up in front of him. I was laughing on the inside that the upsell from AutoTrader worked perfectly.Cleaned up and posted on FB Marketplace yesterday. Already 6 people showing interest. :fingerscrossed:
Sold to the first person who looked at it for $100 less than asking. Easy!Cleaned up and posted on FB Marketplace yesterday. Already 6 people showing interest. :fingerscrossed:
Sold my daughters old car the first day as well on Market Place. Asked 500 more than I wanted and when the guy was deciding I said..."I want a fast sale and will knock off 500 if you want it today...that closed him"Sold to the first person who looked at it for $100 less than asking. Easy!
