Using return yards for defensive scoring (1 Viewer)

Was wondering if anyone out there is involved with return yards used in defensive scoring. Im not talking about an individual player, but defense/special teams as a whole. Maybe a bonus point for each 100 return yards and so on. We are thinking about adding this to our league and wanted to get some thoughts. Also, in order to gauge the worth of each category, I was wondering if there might be a place to find condensed historical data maybe from last season and beyond. Sorry if this is confusing.

TIA

We did this in our league last year because our commish messed up. We wanted the yardage assigned to individual players, and not the D/ST. We had the scoring set at 1 point / 25 yards. It produced parity among the defenses. If you picked up a bad defense you could still get quite a few points off return yards. Sorry, I don't have the numbers handy since it was a Yahoo redraft league.

We do this in one league I'm in except it's not to the Defensive Team, we have a specific position for it - Special Teams.

Just as an FYI.

We did find that points assigned to Kick Off return yards needed to be half the points given to Punt Return yards.

My league has done this as well. I see it diminishing the value of good defenses as bad ones get more credit for additional kick off returns. Seems like they get rewarded for giviing up scores.

Makes all the defenses come together and the big turnover numbers and TDs outclass the defense that limits yards and points.

Pretty much same here -- what's worse is that he (my commish) overvalued individual return yards as well so that many pure return guys were worth more than some of the normally good WR and 2 nd tier RB's. It was silly. This year, we're fixing the yardage so that it's not worth as much in general. I'm not sure if we're keeping the return yards in D at all.
