Vacation ideas needed (1 Viewer)

Thinking of something different to do next summer with the family. We've done Cabo/Hawaii the last 2 years, so not looking to hang out at a beach. Want to see sites, experience culture, attend live events (concerts, festivals, theater, etc) Don't have enough points for flights to Europe, so that will have to wait a year. Options I'm thinking:

1) Boston/New England. Just got back from Boston and loved it, think my "kids" (college) would love the city. We're from CA and the rest of the family has never been to the Northeast other than New York. Maybe do a trip centered around Boston but maybe head to Cape Cod, Portland ME, etc?

2) Pacific Northwest - Seattle, Vancouver, Victoria, maybe Portland. Weather typically great in July/August.

3) FBG ideas? We've done SF and NY. Southeast is out that time of year for us.

Boston and Maine are good trips. There have been a lot of threads about that destination over the years here.

Another option is Montreal and Quebec City. A way to do something very culturally different without having to fly to Europe.

National parks of interest?

If you do Northwest Portland is highly recommended. There are also a number of amazing things to see near Seattle too many to fit into one trip - Mount Rainer, San Juan Islands, Mt. Saint Helens, Olympic Peninsula, among the many.

Vancouver, Victoria, Whistler is awesome. I vote for that. Banff / Jasper is also pretty great, but the proximity to a city like Vancouver bumps it up a few notches.

Washington DC....I lived there for a year and still did not take in every thing I wanted to see...I think there is even a thread.

We went to Jackson Hole, WY a few summers back and had a good time. See Grand Teton Natty Park, hiking, etc. I enjoyed it very much.

Doing that one in a couple of weeks. Went a few years ago for a soccer game and barely got the main sights in. Fiance hasn't been there so should be a good one.

Go to Devils Lake and the Badlands of North Dakota. Teach you family that American was made on Steak, Guns and Furs. They never forget a North Dakota Vacation.

As a M###hole who lives near DC, either one would be great.

NE - see Maine, Boston, Cape Cod and/or and island, Newport. Plenty.

DC - Lots of stuff just in and around the city, plus can go north to Gettysburg, Hershey (Amish area of PA), go further East to the shore, etc.

Tons different than what you are used to in CA.
