Value of Cover 2 cornerbacks (1 Viewer)

I've always thought that cover 2 cornerbacks were more valuable than non-cover 2 corners.

The exception being rookie corners, who get a lot of activity.

The thinking is that cover 2 corners get so many more tackles that they become viable DB options.

However, I didn't see production from a lot of cover 2 corners other than the top guys.

Now, I see an article discussing fantasy DBs and the author said he wasn't including the corners because so many play cover 2 nowadays. I thought this implied that they don't score enough to warrant discussion. WTF? Just the opposite of what I thought.

So I've been targeting Justin Miller as a corner to pick up because Ty Law is likely to be gone and Miller will inherit the corner position, which should get plenty of tackle opportunities, and he will sort of be a rookie, and he returns kickoffs. I smell goldmine. But nobody else even bid on the guy, leading me to question my thought process.

Where am I going wrong on this cover 2 corner thinking?

The problem with Miller specifically is that I am not sure that the Jets are going to be a cover 2 team.

Generally, except for the Top 10-15 guys, my experience is that CBs get very little action because outside of the very elite (even some within) their scoring is spotty from season to season.

daspce2, I cannot agree with you more with the potential of Justin Miller as the starting CB/KR for the Jets in 06 and beyond. I believe he will be right up there in scoring with the likes of Terrence McGee & Darrent Williams in leagues where they give points for return yardage.I'm a little hesitant with D. Williams being the kick return man for the Broncos due to his injuries & running out of gas toward the end of the season. Though, I could see Williams being the starting punt returner, which is still not a bad deal if you have him on your team.Overall, I will target Miller if he still on the waiver wire in your leagues. Again, I am calling it now, JUSTIN MILLER will be the next Terrence McGee......right it down!RAPTURE

If you're an IDP'er I don't see how you can't like cover 2 corners over non cover 2.

I've gotten Ronde Barber relatively cheap in my redraft league the past three years. Every year people tell me the same thing .... too old, due for a let down, blah, blah blah, yet at the end of the season, there he is among the DB leaders.

I always look for cover 2 corners. They get more tackles close to the line by the virtue of having less deep cover responsibilities.

fwiw, I think minnesota (winfield williams/smoot), detroit (bly/bryant), and buffalo (clements/mcgee) are all switching to cover 2 this year.

just exactly why I stashed Miller on my roster at the end of last year. :excited:
