Valuing top IDPs versus offensive talent (1 Viewer)

I've been given an offer that is essentially "Paul Perkins and DeVante Parker for JJ Watt."

It's an odd 8-team, deep lineup league (2Q,3R,6W,2T,2F/DT,2DE,3LB,2S,2CB,2DFl).  Fairly standard IDP scoring.

Parker would probably be a flex starter for me, while Perkins is a flex/bench RB (I own Gallman as well).

On the surface, it is very tempting, but I keep feeling like the lost PPG from replacing Watt with my current DE3 aren't going to be made up with Parker over my current flex.  Flip side, Parker/Perkins adds a lot of depth and therefore injury protection.

More relevant than the specifics of this deal though, is my realization that I really don't have a good sense of how to price top IDP versus mid-tier offense, or vice versa.  Interested as much in my fellow IDPers' insights on that sort of decisionmaking as I am in evaluations of the specific trade (though I will happily take both!).

I have found that what separates the upper teams from the bottom teams in most IDP leagues (where the IDP side actually matters) is the defensive side of the ball.  Almost everyone can find equal information for the offensive players however IDP is much more difficult.  So the owners that understand the scoring nuances as well as the change in schemes/situations/etc on the defensive side usually excel because they are ahead of the curve.  Most of the offenses score similarly but the defensive side varies greatly.

That being said, trading known IDP studs for offensive players can be profitable if you are able to stay ahead of the curve and get lesser known IDP players to replace the name guys with very similar production.  In your particular case there is a huge unknown - will Watt be Watt or is the back injury going to bring him back to mere mortal production (or less).   In general you can get great benefit from trading name IDP guys for big improvements to your offensive deficiencies.  That is where I have found the best value in trade pieces.
