On May 15, 2017 General Sessions Judge Sam Benningfield signed a standing order that allows inmates to receive 30 days credit toward jail time if they undergo a birth control procedure.

I am not so sure our judicial/penal system should be going down this road.

I could be for this in certain situations. Not as a general rule. This opens a very uncomfortable door.

They're effectively sterilized as long as they're in prison anyway. For nonviolent crimes of economic motivation (burglary, auto theft, for example) caused by being unable to afford thing's in the first place, I'd be OK shaving a year or two off of otherwise parole-able convicts for a year or two of sterilization when they first get out, to assure a better chance of landing on their feet and not making their situation worse when they try to put their lives back together. 

Well, that is simple enough for females as they can just have the implant removed.  A vasectomy isn't so easily reversed.  Sure, it can be done, but at significant cost probably not covered by insurance.  Also, I don't think the success of a reversal is a sure thing.  This is a pretty permanent decision for the guys.
