Hey guys, i'm new to this forum...but it looks pretty cool so i joined. I just want to say that one of my favorite coaches retired today- **** Vermeil. He was a really classy guy and an all-around good coach who had a great offensive feel for the game. He led some of the greatest Rams, and Eagles teams and certainly the best Chiefs offense of all time. I think we all need to take a look at what he has done, and the standards he has set for the NFL coach.

Welcome aboard! I agree. Vermeil has been one of the great coaches to watch as a fan. I hope we have more like him in the future!BTW-how does the Cheifs get to have so many great coaches? Stram was pretty special too.

Vermeil caught lightning in a bottle with St. Louis, but he's not a great coach. A lifetime record of 120-109 is not great in my book.

I've always really liked Schottenheimer, too.

Lightning in a bottle with St. Louis, I'll believe. How do you explain Philly, or going 13-3 in KC?For all the talk about SD being the best team to not make the playoffs, I'll humbly submit that this season's KC Chiefs were far better than the Chargers.

Vermeil did a very good job building up the Eagles in the '70s, which in my mind is his biggest accomplishment. The 13-3 season in KC was great, but they were exposed as one dimensional against Indy in the playoffs.Don't get me wrong, Vermeil was a good coach, but not great. Lombardi was great. Madden was great. Belichick is great. Vermeil was good.

I will agree that Vermeil wasn't in a league with those guys, who are all all-time greats. I still think he was one of the top-10 coaches in the league.
